Stupid move if you ask me. Good luck Sens.
-
I love it whent that kid in your avatar goes "Whoa!".
-
I don't think there was too much wrong with my post but okay. He was defensive in a series played 3 months after that post was made. I though Zetterberg probably deserved the award but I don't really care much about individual awards and it's also the hardest player award to judge. But thanks for popping up.
-
No way, Brodeur totally deserved this one.
-
It'd have to be a little annoying though. No-one else ever gets a chance just because they're playing at the same time as Lids. No fair. I bet Dion can't wait til he retires.
-
OMFG that kids jersey said Lindstrom.
-
I doubt it'd be even close to a record. It was good for this era though.
-
Did anyone else notice the caption that said "Chris Osgood: 3-time Stanley Cup winner (1996, 1997 and 2008)"? It's pretty funny. Seriously ESPN, it's not that tough to not f*** everything you do up.
-
Double post sorry.

I can't see Anze coming to Detroit. I actually heard there is a deal being proposed between the Kings and Pens involving Kopitar, Brown and Malkin. But I can't see that happening either. You'd be crazy to trade Geno Malkin.
-
It's a real shame he never won a Cup. He really deserved one. He played so well in the 94 playoffs series and got so close. He was as good as Bure. Congrats to him on a ripper career.

I like the way Holland has been such a tightass after the intro of the cap. Stuart is replacable if he doesn't want to stay.
-
I'll admit, he did impress me with Dally and Drapes. His mindset was changed with them and he was accountable. It was great but only for a few games. But I just saw him allow his opponents to make quick transitions too many times during the year. Maybe I am harsh on him but he's seriously not close to these guys: Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Drake, Maltby, Draper, Franzen and Cleary. To me, I don't see how someone could argue otherwise. And I think Filppula and Helm also show better natural defensive abilities.
-
The reason I never mentioned plus/minus is because is means FA for this argument. Draper was even for the playoffs while Sammy was +8. Does that mean he's better than Kris Draper defensively? Again, I'd love to hear why Sammy is supposed to be such a good defensive forward.
-
Well yeah, I've heard so many reasons why I'm wrong. Hard to argue with nothing.
-
Not much. Probably just Zetterberg.
-
Yeah I expect my opinion won't be shared by many. I'm all about the D. That's just me. I would be happy to get a great young forward though if one is available.

It's pretty important to draft quality defensemen. Of those listed I only see three of them making an impact (Ericsson, Kindl and Smith). I really doubt Logan Pyett will play NHL either. If he does, he'll just be a 5-6 Dman. And I think with the amount of awesome defenders in this draft (especially from the WHL) we'll get a chance at a great Dman even with pick #30. You also have to remember Lidstrom will retire within 5 years, Rafalski soon after and we need to make sure our defensive core is strong. Good D is without a doubt the most important ingredient to having a championship side IMO. I've never seen a Cup winner without a good defensive system.

Watching them play. I don't look at stats too much. It's just my opinion, man. You don't need to get mad about it. I've been thinking about it - I've wached Darren Helm for a few years now and he's always been very defensive minded and I think I'd probably put him ahead of Sammy too. Again Mac, it's based on watching him play okay? I understand if you want stats to prove it or whatever but I'm not much of a stats guy. I just have my opinion and not much more. Now you settle down there boy!

The difference is one is much closer to being true than the other. Stevie's 88-89 season was up there though. It was amazing but not as amazing as Mario's. Mario was so spectacular, the way he got through defenders and past goalies was incredible. How could you not be impressed? He could do it all offensively. I loved it. He and Stevie are my two favourite players of all time (incidentally Rick Tocchet is also top 5) and these years are some of the reasons why.
-
Karlsson is one that comes to mind - the only thing is he should get picked up before #30. I think we're likely to see another D-man in the first round.
-
I think with regards to former retired numbers, what has happened is teams that have relocated have had retired numbers and then the next incarnation of that franchise has not recognised those retired numbers. I believe Stastny is one example of this with the Diques.
-
Lidstrom and Osgood, do they get their numbers retired?
Doggy replied to SFwingsfan's topic in General
Does Lidstrom get his number retired? How can that be a serious question? -
I think he just wanted to remain in control. It doesn't take a hardass to jaw with someone on a bench. Anyone can do it. It's not like you have to be fearful of getting knocked out.
-
I gotta say, the only ones you could argue that are worse than Sammy defensively are Helm and Holmstrom. But I don't think it really is an issue. Anyway more on topic, the Pens will be a good team next season. Watch it happen.
