Well Eva of course I don't have the stats that you do but Mario had Hodgkin's lymphoma and got treated for it in January that season. He missed 20 games or so, then Pens struggled the he returned and they won 17 straight to finish the season. This was while convalescing from radiation treatment and with a very bad back which required surgery for the second time the following season. Now, I said Mario was my second favourite player, Stevie is my first. But Mario's 92-93 season was like nothing I've ever seen. You know who'll agree with me? Steve Yzerman and every player that played against him that year. Mario was seriously super-human. Now to sit back and wait for more pointless stats from Eva....

None of them were as bad as this one IMO. Toskala had heaps of time to get behind it. As akustyk said, you can't stick out your glove. Get down on your knees and get your body in front of the puck. Bad bounces don't matter then. And Toskala had all day to do this. He just took it too easy. But again, good on him for shutting the door from then on.

And besides, his name isn't Sergei Fedorov. It's Pavel Datsyuk.

I just had to point that out because Mario is my second favourite player of all time and that season was the best I've ever seen a player perform at any sport ever.

3% for the Sharks?? Surprising. The Ducks are 2nd because the players more than anyone know that any team that plays them gets screwed.

Why would somebody really care much even? The top seed is meaningless. The NHL gives almost zero advantage to the higher seeded teams in the playoffs. The Sharks are a monstrous threat whether they're first or eighth.

The majority watch games that Detroit don't play in as well as those that they do. The majority watch players other than just Pavel Datsyuk on the ice. The majority recognize that Nicklas Lidstrom is far and away the best and most important player Detroit has. The majority don't have some blind love for Datsyuk that completely clouds their judgment of anything that is related to him. So come on sane people - join us while Kira stands in the corner pouting, claiming that everyone else in the world is crazy, not her.

Well my memory isn't the best but I remember Mario PKing more than Pavel does. Not saying Lemieux should have just thought I'd mention it. Anyway, more to the point - better def. forwards than Datsyuk include but not limited to: Fisher, Madden, Lehtinen, Kesler, Brind'Amour, Pahlsson, Sharp and Conroy.

Dude, I can't remember the last time a Hart trophy went to a player from a team that didn't make the playoffs. It could have been decades ago. AO could win it but my point is, without him they would be what, second last as opposed to 4pts ahead of second last?? If a player needs to carry a team to win a Hart he should at least carry them into the playoffs. Like Hasek or Theodore or Thornton or Jagr, etc.

It's because he isn't the best defensive forward in the game. He's not even close. A bunch of Pavel-lovers have just seen improvement in that side of his game and all of a sudden think he's Lidstrom now with Bure's goal scoring. Basically Harold, you've been right on the money this whole thread but there are too many people here that don't watch enough of other players from other teams to have a realistic opinion of guys like Pavel. At the end of the day, Pavel might get this award, he might not. It's way too hard to judge for me (or anyone) to have a strong opinion. Having a romantic view of a player like Datsyuk is cool - he's a great player. However, to say it's a lock is pretty short-sighted. Don't be too upset if he doesn't win it.

Maybe I should check this game out. Some of my favourite players in it - Crosby, Ovechkin, Fedorov, Whitney and Malkin.

I apologise. I shouldn't have compared a great defensive forward with someone who everyone is saying is a great defensive forward. It was wrong of me to do so and will not happen again. You have my word. Anything else I should stop doing?
