I'm down with kids, as long as they don't hurt our chances of gettin' laid. Seriously though, I hope they come. It'll be good to have someone there around my level of maturity. I'll try not to swear too much. Promise.

I'm pretty sure we all are. Otherwise, what's the point? Isn't that what these "gatherings" *points to penis* are for? If not, I've completely misunderstood the purpose of this website.

In my first season of NHL09, Homer won the Selke trophy and the Isles made the Conference Finals.

With only eight games to go... we still have very little of an idea who our first round playoff opponent will be. It is however, all but a certainty that it will be one of five teams, regardless of if we finish 1st or 2nd in the conference. So, let's take a look: Current Western conference standings 7. Anaheim Ducks - 88 pts, 2 GR, 41 wins 8. St Louis Blues - 88 pts, 2 GR, 39 wins 9. Nashville Predators - 86 pts, 2 GR, 39 wins 10. Minnesota Wild - 85 pts, 2 GR, 38 wins 11. Edmonton Oilers - 83 pts, 2 GR, 37 wins Tight much? 2 points between 7th and 11th all with equal games played. It will be one of these five but the probability of any one of them is literally equal. All have 8 games left, some of them (in italic) against each other which will make for some early playoffs games. 7. Anaheim Ducks HOME vs. Edmonton 3-5 L HOME vs. Colorado 4-1 W ROAD vs. Edmonton 5-3 W ROAD vs. Vancouver 6-5 W(SO) ROAD vs. San Jose 5-2 W HOME vs. San Jose 2-3 L HOME vs. Dallas ROAD vs. Phoenix 8. St Louis Blues HOME vs. Columbus 4-3 W(SO) ROAD vs. Columbus 5-2 W ROAD vs. Chicago 1-3 L ROAD vs. Detroit 5-4 W ROAD vs. Dallas 4-5 L(OT) ROAD vs. Phoenix 5-1 W HOME vs. Columbus ROAD vs. Colorado 9. Nashville Predators HOME vs. Los Angeles 4-3 W(OT) ROAD vs. Detroit 4-3 W ROAD vs. Columbus 2-1 L ROAD vs. Chicago 1-3 L HOME vs. Columbus 5-4 W(SO) HOME vs. Chicago 2-4 L ROAD vs. Detroit ROAD vs. Minnesota 10. Minnesota Wild ROAD vs. Calgary 2-3 L ROAD vs. Edmonton 3-2 W HOME vs. Vancouver 1-2 L (OT) HOME vs. Calgary 4-0 W ROAD vs. Detroit 2-3 L HOME vs. Dallas 3-1 W HOME vs. Nashville ROAD vs. Columbus 11. Edmonton Oilers ROAD vs. Anaheim 5-3 W HOME vs. Minnesota 2-3 L HOME vs. Anaheim 3-5 L HOME vs. San Jose 1-2 L HOME vs. Vancouver 5-3 W HOME vs. Los Angeles 1-2 L HOME vs. Calgary ROAD vs. Calgary Personally, I kinda hope St. Louis and Nashville squeeze in because I think it'd be awesome to see 5 teams from the same division make it, but that's probably a long shot as they seem to have the toughest schedules, which makes sense being in the Central. Also, notice Detroit mentioned a few times in games that could end up being first round previews. I'll update this as these teams play and hopefully soon we'll get more of an idea who we'll get. Although, I'm not promising s***. I doubt we'll have a clue until April 12.
-
Sorry for not updating. I've been in planes and airports for the past few days. Anyway, no deep analysis required. If the Ducks win today, we play them. If they don't, a Blues win tomorrow would mean them. Edit: This is if Columbus are unable to earn a point in their game against the Wild.
-
I can't believe St. Louis just got 7 out of 10 points on a tough 5-game road trip. They deserve to make it.
-
We got shutout by the Islanders. A team that tonight, barely had more shots on goals than Carolina had goals. Goals: 9-0 Shots: 57-12 Unbelievable.
-
I just don't want the Ducks because of the travel. I think St. Louis would be the most favourable matchup for us but if we really should be beating these teams anyway. If we can't then we never deserved a sniff of the Cup in the first place. Simple as that.

The recent slump of Columbus puts them into the picture now, and Edmonton and Minnesota are almost certainly out of it. Here are the current standings. 6. Columbus Blue Jackets - 90 pts, 3 GR, 40 wins 7. Anaheim Ducks - 88 pts, 2 GR, 41 wins 8. Nashville Predators - 86 pts, 3 GR, 39 wins 9. St Louis Blues - 86 pts, 3 GR, 38 wins 10. Minnesota Wild - 83 pts, 3 GR, 37 wins 11. Edmonton Oilers - 83 pts, 3GR, 37 wins It's not set in stone but it looks like the 7th seed will play Detroit now. Games to be played: Columbus ROAD vs. Chicago ROAD vs. St. Louis HOME vs. Minnesota Anaheim HOME vs. Dallas ROAD vs. Phoenix Nashville HOME vs. Chicago ROAD vs. Detroit ROAD vs. Minnesota St. Louis ROAD vs. Phoenix HOME vs. Columbus ROAD vs. Colorado Minnesota HOME vs. Dallas HOME vs. Nashville ROAD vs. Columbus Edmonton HOME vs. Los Angeles HOME vs. Calgary ROAD vs. Calgary Looks like the Ducks. They have two pretty easy games and the Jackets should be able to get 3 pts from their remaining games. Crazier things have happened but Anaheim is the most likely first-round matchup. Unfortunately.

I anticipated a response from you. That notwithstanding, Roloson is their MVP. No question.
-
No offense to anyone intended, but people picking Hemsky over Roloson haven't seen enough of Edmonton this season. That's the flaw with this thread. Very few people could possibly see enough of all these teams to give a properly educated opinion of each team's MVP and rather end up giving a guess.

Well as I said, the one truly tough team he had, the Flyers, had nothing to do with him. This is a fact. They's been the Broad St. Bullies a decade before he came along. Guys like Tocchet, Brown, Carson, Clarke, etc. were already a part of their system. He should get zero credit for putting that great team together.
-
Sigh. So you agree with me then. I never said he didn't like tough guys. I said he never built a tough team. He was always a hopeless GM anyway.
-
He went to teams with tough guys. How is that the same as building them?

LGW has been told. Whine about other things. -
I'll keep my argument simple. GM's build teams. Not coaches. There are instances where coaches have a major say, but in Philadelphia, Keenan did not. Your compelling evidence from "fight circles" notwithstanding, your statement was far from true. That's all I'm saying. Brian Burke and Bobby Clarke built tough teams. As did former-Wing, Keith Allen. Hockey history, dude.
-
He built zero of those teams. You shouldn't explain the Flyers. Their tough culture had been around since 72. That team was built by Keith Allen. You really should know this. Also, in Chicago when he was actually a GM he got rid of more tough guys than he brought in. How can you be such a fight fan and think MIKE KEENAN built the Broad Street Bullies?
-
Lol, no he didn't. What team did he do this with GMR? Because the opposite is probably more true.

I was just poking fun at the silliness of nationally broadcasting a Minnesota Wild game. -

Pfft... the game starts at 3.30am for me. -
I can't remember who it was but some boradcaster suggested Simon Gagne was a certainty for this. I thought it was pretty obvious it was Sullivan's but it's funny that Gagne didn't even get a nomination.
