As SR said, it's pretty simple. If demand outweighs supply, the prices will remain high. Why wouldn't they? It's capitalism. If enough people stop going, ticket prices will go down, but the volume of ticket sales is more than adequate for the organisation to turn a profit every game. Empty seats or not, the sales are still there.

What? No! This usually happens when players suffer too many injuries. They feel they can't go on despite the desire to. Then they heal, and their outlook changes and they come back. To say greed is the reason is ignorant, presumptuous and stupid. Until you can empathise with the situation some of these guys were in, don't comment. I know what it was like to be in constant pain from a game I loved and think, "There is no way can I keep doing this.". After a few years however, I felt better and missed playing big time. The pain and injuries were the last things on my mind as opposed to the first. Greed? You're just so far off it's not funny.

GS&T, just a reminder - playoff performance wins the Cup. Cup winners ranked on average 2.5 in D and 2.6 in O for the playoffs. Runners up averaged 3.5 in D and 6th in O. That tells a much better story I think. Offense only gets you so far. Of course there are exceptions but you get my point. Edit: Forget to mention, those stats are based on the past ten years.
