It's pretty likely Smith and Kindl will be better than Meech and Quincey will ever be but right now Meech and Quincey are NHL-ready players. You can't really say that for neither Smith nor Kindl. Kindl maybe next year, Smith in 2-3 years.

Quincey isn't a top 7 D-man. We can't have 30 guys on the active roster. Therefore, he needs to go to GR. He must clear waivers first. What doesn't make sense about this?

Kronwall actually has a pretty good shot. He just hasn't had a chance to display it in Detroit.

Yeah, but that's not really an apt comparison. Kronwall was signed when he wasn't as good as he is now and had been through a terrible injury run. His seemingly fragile body caused his value to drop. Hell, at the time when he was offered that contract, it was considered pretty risky.

When it comes to a 22 year old though, 5+ year contract lengths also must take into account their worth in a few years time. The guy is just a pup and IMO, it's very likely $5m/yr will be pretty cheap in 2-5 years. But we'll see what eventuates. It's always a gamble.

I agree. What Dmac did to Lemieux was the right way to go about it. There were no 3rd men in that "fight" even though you can bet every Wing on the ice and on the bench would have liked to kick his arse too.
