You don't need to convince me about Bouwmeester, okay? I know how good he is. You're underestimating Phaneuf. I'd take him first any day. He is also elite and unquestionably the better of the two. Would you take Yzerman over Gretzky too?

Do you people not understand the difference between an 18 year old and a 21 year old? Francis Pare was better than Deschamps because he'd had 3 more years of development and experience. Honestly, it's comparing apples and oranges.

He was a man playing with kids. His most impressive season as a kid was '06 but he was largely carried by Alex Bourret. He'll never play for the Wings and I highly doubt any other NHL team.

I disagree with your assessment of Philly. I think their team is okay. They have overpaid for Hatcher and Rathje but it doesn't mean they're useless players. Coburn, Timmonen, Hatcher and Rathje isn't a bad start for a defensive core. If they can get Smith back at a decent price they're well above average. And then look up forward - Briere, Richards, Gagne, Upshall and Lupul. This is going to be a tough hockey team to beat again next season. Especially if they can remain healthy.

What does the past have to do with anything? I already said I'd been trashing the Habs saying they were not a chance to win in '08 even thought they were the top seed. When it pays dividends is questionable but my point is they are in good hands unlike the Leafs.

The fact that they're changing their system and turning Habs players into more accountable, defensively responsible players makes them better Cup-contenders without acquisitions IMO. I rate Gainey and Carbonneau as the two best defensive forwards ever and I know how they want their players to play. If they can get them playing like that, there's no way they won't be a tough team to beat. That's how I see the Habs anyway. We'll how long it takes them if they ever get there.

I know I trashed the Habs a lot this past season saying they had no chance at the Cup but they are definitely headed in the right direction. Carbonneau and Gainey are winners and I firmly believe they will lead the team to back to being a contender in the future. Maybe even in '09. Mats Sundin will certainly help their cause.

As well as Larionov and Gilmour, I hope Carbonneau gets in. He was one of my favourite players. Definitely one of the great defensive forwards ever.
