FWIW, Dallas hockey fans tend to understand the game just as well as "Northerns". Being stationed in Texas, and only getting to see games in Dallas, I have always been surprised that for the most part, Stars fans didn't give me crap about my Wings jersey and actually could talk intelligently about the sport. Most would say something like "Hey, Yzerman! He's awesome. Wish I got to see him one more time." Sure, they have a few idiots (like the dude bashing Lids) but, face it, so do we. And oddly enough, youth hockey is MASSIVE in Dallas, thanks in no small part to Mikey Mo.

Awesome read. Thanks. I'm thinking 5-1 Wings. Dats (2), Z, Lids, Huds. Tootoo will pull some BS in the 3rd.

I. Believe. Your. Avatar.

Yep, and I hope that doesn't happen any decade soon.

On a vastly superior team. Sure, Ozzie had a good season. So good, in fact, that management brought in somebody else for a Cup run... Are you talking about Fuhr or Ozzie, 'cause it's true for both. *sigh* I never said they were better. I was saying that at one point in their career (which overlapped Ozzie's) you could say they were the best in the league. Someone thought so in 1997...

Osgood has NEVER been the best goalie in the league. Need evidence? OK, how about the lack of a freaking Vezina? Sure, technically, you can argue anything. But realistically, you can't argue Osgood is or ever was the best in the league. Maybe 20 is a tad too high but here goes... I'll start with the two other Wings goalies to win Cups, Vernon and Hasek. Toss in Roy, Brodeur, Belfour, and yes, Richter. Now, let's add those goalies are not guarenteed a trip to the HoF, but have actually been awarded the Vezina... you know.. for being the best goalie in the league that year. Kipper, Theodore, Ollie, and *shudder* Carey. Grant Fuhr was still around. The Beezer. Hextall, too. As a matter of fact, Ozzie and Hextall remind me a lot of each other, career-wise. Except Hextall having a Vezina and all. Who else? Barasso. Damn, I forgot Luongo. That adds up to...carry the one... 15. Sure, four of them maybe not be better, but they actually won a Vezina, meaning for a season, they were the best goalie in the league. Honest question- what is the highest Ozzie has ever finished in Vezina voting? So anyway, not 20. But more than 10. Actual HoFers and Vezina winners. And Luongo.

Really? I'm pretty confident I can name... say... twenty goalies who have played since Ozzie came into the league who are, without question, better. I love Ozzie and all... but really?

Ladies and gentlemen, this is as positive as GMR gets. Yes, he's playing great. First line d-man all the way. No, he isn't replacing Nick. It's cool.

Stevie touched it in 2002. That worked out pretty well, I'd say. I can remember the announcers making a big deal about it and being shocked.
-
You lost me here. Lidstrom- 3x Cups and a Conn Smyth. Rafs has 3x Cups. Chelios has 2. McCarty has 3. Drapes and Malts have 3 each. Hasek and Ozzie have both won one, and Oz backed up another. But a dude who has played ONE NHL REGULAR SEASON game has "playoff intangibles"? Getting a little ahead of yourself, maybe?
-
Yes, yes, and YES! Not saying it would be a cakewalk, but those are two teams we should unquestionably beat.
-
I submit to your will and await the Cup. And probes. Anal probes.

Hockey announces that stuff in full minute increments for soemreason, so anything that happens from 0:01 to 1:00 is the 1st minute, and anything from 1:01 to 2:00 is the 2nd minue... and anything that happens from 19:01 to 20:00 is the 20th minute. And yes, there must be a tenth of a second for a goal to be counted, but penalties can be called at the 20:00 mark.
-
No. Malkin before Dats. Lids before Dats. Some goalie before Dats. But great season. Z, too.
-
Screw that static. I am a realist. We have the best team in the league right now, standings-wise. We have the best goalie tandem in the league right now, standings-wide. We have an all-universe d-man, and 3 other solid d-men. We have the best two way forward line in hockey. We are the Detroit Red Wings. I'm not scared. Bring it on.

Osgood is my favorite WIngs goalie ever, and I want Hasek in net for the playoffs.

Babcock: This is the best team I've coached
thedisappearer replied to HockeyCrazy3033's topic in General
I'm pretty sure that was his whole intent. Sammy is a decent player. He gets PP time on the best team in the league (I know, I know... points-wise, you would never concede we are better than anyone but Atlanta). He may not be what you want him to be, but as a player on the Red WIngs, he must be "decent". -
Lol. What, his number isn't retired yet?
-
Just to throw this out there- Ozzie ain't making much more than back-up money his last years on contract with Detroit. $6 mil on goalies (total) ain't ridiculous nowadays...
-
Here's how I see it- Nick is done in 2 years. Love him, followed him, have the jersey- but done in two years. Z is awesome- love him, follow him, have the jersey yet again. BUT... Ovie is goals for the next decade. Paired with Dats... well... that's insane. Green = a 1st rounder in my book. Like I said, I would do it, with Nick's blessing.
-
That's what I am thinking. Lids is great, bit we can all see the game slowly getting out of his skates. Z is awesome, but not Ovie awesome. I'd make this trade, IF Lids was cool with it. If not, then I'd pass.
-
Nope. If it ain't a 3 in front of that with a few hundred thousand dollars after it, he ain't talking. I can't blame him. 2 years, 6.8 mil. Unless he can get bigger- 5 yr, 21 mil could happen. Not with Detroit, mind you...
-
Well... exactly. How long did it take for Detroit to shake off the "Dead Things" and do something? We had teams that could have in the 40+ years but none did. The '08 Sharks aren't the '97 Wings. Screw 'em, I don't care who you are or what you did or who you signed- the Wings are better. And we'll prove it. GO WINGS!!!
-
Well, the OP did refer to his own idea as "hippy-dippy". I didn't take the Garcia comment as negative. Either way, GO WINGS!
