Should We Alternate Goalies in the Playoffs?
thedisappearer replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
No way. But can WE please get to the playoffs first before we do this thread? Too much can happen that I don't wann to deal with. *knocks on wood* -
Who said what to who whenever isn't the issue here. You don't throw punches through linesmen. You. Don't. Do. It.
-
Yeah, but his role is 2nd line and point on the PP... which is most of the problem. Take him off the PP, drop him to the 3rd line, and I have no issues whatsoever with him. You can't get mad at fans because they want to see a weakness (no matter how glaring to you) improved upon. If we sat around and just started threads about awesome the team, Nick, Dats, Z, Ozzie, (insert hot Wings of choice here), was... this place would get boring fast. Oh, and don't worry about eating crow... he has those "good" games every few weeks. You won't waste muchg time looking...
-
See ya there! 4-2 Wings Dats, Z, Huds, Raf
-
Um, no. If it goes wide it is NOT a shot. The definition of "shot on goal" is pretty clear in this area. And even if this is the case... you did nothing to refute the rest of of my post. Which is kinda irrelavant unless you keep complaining we need a #2 D-man...
-
Just to play devil's advocate... did the shoot-out cheapen the wins you get from it?
-
you missed my sarcasm. it's cool, i didn't use an emoticon.
-
More than Nicky? Nope. Not happening.
-
That doesn't happen that often. I would think the increases chances and goals would negate the occassional icing. at least, if this thing is your type of thing. i personally don't. i like my game old school, thank you.
-
Because the players wouldn't be able to learn from the rule change and adopt new techniques, therefore every time a team clears the puck now would instantly be an icing.
-
Unless Kenny totally short changes him, he's a Wing next year. Or we acquire a big name goalie somewhere, but that ain't likely.
-
If he came relatively cheap, I would take him in a heart beat. Just don't see it happening.

if you knew yzermans last year to play was the season...
thedisappearer replied to sirdrake1's topic in General
i didn't insult. i merely disagreed strongly (his number being retired) and refuted by using a FACT to counter your assertion(longest tentued captain ever in the history of the league). i did not intend to offend, i apologize if i did. this thread shows not that you are a natural leader, but a natural idiot... maybe. don't take it personally. i am sure i have beliefs about the wings that everyone here would think makes me an idiot. it happens. as for the gm making hard decisions... good luck trying to lure that big name free agent in after you throw stevie y under the bus. i would have to imagine you would need to overpay pretty much everybody after a bs move like that. sadly, we are in the cap age. so, yeah... naturally lead me through that. wait... i did make a decision- not to trade the face of my organization. dude, he IS the red wings. case closed. -
Meech sent to Griffins; Holmstrom returns Sunday?
thedisappearer replied to 40#1Fan's topic in General
What he said. -
Yeah, being second in the league among defense scoring ain't gonna cut it. So what if he has the most d-man goal in Detroit? Tied for the most PP points on the team isn't what we need from him. Shooting at twice the percentage of Nicky? Whatever.

Chances are pretty good that he would have been the longest tenured captain in the history of the league if he was traded one year before retirement. I mean... a really good chance. -

Yeah, well... some things ain't funny. I hope sincerely this has something to do with the first anniversary of retiring #19. -
The only two things I want from the second half of the season is... 1- Everyone to stay healthy. 2- Play better against the Central. If we don't, the last month of the season will gurt us. We play our last 11 games in the divion, and 13 out of 14. I think this will benefit us, as we will ratchet up the intensity and be ready and firing on all cylinders come the playoffs. What I want from the postseason is another story all together...

Well, if the blockbuster is Todd Bertuzzi... well... I'll go with Cross and Calder.

I wasn't accusing you specifically of anything. All I was trying to convey was that the price may be too high and just because we have cap space does not means A: we have to use, and B: it's in our best interest to use it. I understand the type of contracts players who get moved at the deadline tend to have. I have seen the Wings blow prospects and draft picks for guys who had no impact and bolted the next off-season for years now. I also understand risk/reward quite well. I get the theory. I just fear the price will be too high with little or no return, and I am tired of people thinking we NEED to spend the cap max to win a Cup. As I have said, I would like to acquire depth. You acn usually get that relatively cheaply. But as the sub-title of this thread indicates, we are talking BLOCKBUSTER deals. Bad idea, my friend, baaaaadddddddd idea. Agreed.
-
There's one I can think of. To get something worth any money, we'd have to give up something we may not want to (draft pick and/or prospect). If it's just a rental, that may be too much to Ken to pay. If the rental is sticking around next year and longer, then the salary may be too much if Zetterberg gets the raise he deserves and we have to resign other players already on the roster. That $5mil is pretty much Z's raise. (I know the cap is going up, but other people will get raises, too) Still, I have to imagine we'll add some depth. I just don't see anything big happening.

Every Wings fan over the age of 20 remembers that one. I think they have a tshirt commemorating it in the shop here.

I seem to remember the Wings scoring 4 goals during 1 five min major.
