Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?
Internet.Unknown replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
When he played a game this year, he looked like my 12-year-old out there compared to most of the other players. He seems tiny. -
Gah! Did I miss the obvious sarcasm font? My apologies!

No, no, no. The water isn't simply rusty or tinted. It is vile and dangerous. The hotel warned not to let the water touch one's face. Here's a link from HuffPo which is virtually the NPR of the internet (which you cited earlier): http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/02/05/sochi-hotel-water_n_4731219.html They call such people "reporters." I'm pretty sure their job is to "spread the word."

Vets over the Kids?, not any more eh Babs.

Except you're ignoring all the facts about age and injuries while covering your ears with your hands and shouting "NOT LISTENING!" -
There's nothing wrong with asking people of any income level to donate/give charitably. Demanding or making it mandatory is where it becomes troublesome. Always be wary of those who volunteer to spend other people's money.

Comparing an injured player in his prime to an old player past his prime is comparing apples to oranges. There is no double standard. -

Wings had a lot of cap space the year Suter and Parise were available too. That was supposed to be reload-never-rebuild summer. -
Hypothetical: What Coach Would You Replace Babcock With?

I would rather be respected in my career than loved. "You hated him for 364 days a year. And on the 365th day you collected your Stanley Cup rings." -
Tim Thomas is a dope: It's a scientific fact.
Internet.Unknown replied to kipwinger's topic in General
Two things. First, you're right. Guys screw up and can be ridiculed for it. Second, someone on the previous page brought up a Fox News study in a childish attempt to belittle Thomas (wasn't you, I know), so some of the hate has to do with politics. I should have qualified that in my previous post. -

The hate for Thomas boils down to politics. Some people hate him for it, some agree, some are indifferent. In other news, most goalies are nuts. -

Good for him. Doesn't sound like a "dope" at all. -
Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

This post reminds me of the days before Yzerman won a Cup. There was a poll where he wasn't rated in the top 50 players. Was absolute nonsense. I think a lot of people overlooked him at the time because he was behind other guys in points--Gretz, Lemieux, Messier. But the naysayers have come around and given Stevie his due. Similar can be said today of Z. He may not be as flashy as Dats. He may not score as many points as Crosby. But Zetterberg is the heart of the team. He wills the Wings to win, even with defensemen draped over his aching back. Zetterberg is much more than an "average star." He is everything a team captain should be. He epitomizes grit, determination, and the warrior spirit sports fan like to talk about so much. (He's Daniel Cleary x3!) He is much more important to the Red Wings than Datsyuk (who is also an incredible player but in different ways). -

Tatar is one of the young guys I wouldn't want to trade. I would keep him over Nyquist, though I like both players. -
This. Well said, Dickie.

Cinderellas very rarely win the championship in any sport. They might push the eventual champs to a long (seven) game series. They might even make the Finals. But they don't often win it all. (LA was a regular season underachiever, not a genuine Cinderella). Last season the Wings were Cinderella and they fared as most Cinderellas fare. They watched another team hoist the Cup.

I think people could be underestimating the importance of the playoff streak to the organization. The Wings are currently at 22 consecutive years. Boston holds the record at 29. No one can convince me that the Red Wings don't want that record 30 years. Thirty! That's probably longer than many of the posters here have been alive. After all the Cup Finals appearances and wins in recent years, after all of the HOF players do wear the red and white jersey, what is left for the organization to accomplish (besides, of course, more Stanley Cups)? To break the playoff streak. The Wings brass may not come out and say it, but I'm sure they're looking at Boston's record and salivating. I think Holland and co. will do everything they can to keep the streak alive. And if Z's performance at the end of last season is any indication, so will he.
-
I want the playoff streak to continue. It would be icing on the already impressive Red Wings cake. That being said, if the Wings don't make the playoffs, burn the team down. Blow it up. No one without a letter on the front of his jersey should be safe.

Three injuries to DD in basically less than a season's worth of hockey. Anyone worried he may have durability issues? Or will he pull a Matthew Stafford and overcome early injuries to play injury free for years to come?

He's gotta be better than Q.

Drop the announcer and "Light the lamp goal"

The new announcer sounds too NBA or WWE to me. -
I'm really old. I preferred it when the NHL season wasn't shut down for weeks for a bunch of Olympic hockey games that will be poorly televised.

gdt 12/21 GDT: Red Wings 5 @ Maple Leafs 4 (SO, yes, SO)

I wonder if this means Q is higher on the depth chart in Babcock's mind than Kindl. -
