I think Mickey once went on and on about how Q is a real outdoorsman and loved his time in CO. Let's hope the Avs want him back.

    Respect Babcock and Holland

I am right. I'm glad you see it. If you believe that any of the players currently in Grand Rapids will become the next Yzerman, Fedorov, or anyone else I mentioned, you're one of those kool-aid guzzling fans. The Wings' current prospects aren't franchise type players. You demean the Wings' legends by making the claim. For the record, I've been following the Wings since '88. I've endured Goose Loonies (look it up), Probert's shenanigans on the border, missing the playoffs, the Jimmy Carson 58-player deal, the Oates/Federko deal, the disappointment of clutch-and-grab crap hockey in the '95 Finals, the drafting of Keith "Wet Butt" Primeau instead of Jagr because manangement feared another Klima, and Konstantinov's sad, awful injury. I have seen this team through highs and lows. I am a true fan, so please do not suggest otherwise.

    Holland Interview

That's the problem. "With the roster we have." It shouldn't have come to this.

    Respect Babcock and Holland

How long did Fedorov, Yzerman, Lidstrom, Konstantinov, Dats, and Z play in the minors? "Over-ripe" is code for "most of our minor league players will never be first line stars in the big league." All of this Grand-Rapids-is-loaded talk is smoke and mirrors BS. The fans that buy into it are over-optimistic or kool-aid guzzling homers.Do the Wings have some decent prospects? Sure. Do they have any can't-miss top line stars? Unlikely. Small Euros, players who can't crack a line-up until 24, and first year pros don't usually blossom into special franchise players. The ways to build a team are: (1) Tank for a few years and draft high (which I hope doesn't happen to the Wings, but it's worked for Pitt and Chicago) (2) Land big free agents in their prime (like Suter and Parise) (3) Load up on draft picks/prospects by trading away today's assets (i.e.--Erat for Forsberg) (4) Get really lucky in the draft (which used to be the forte of the Wings) Notice this list does not include "(5) After failing to land big free agents, sign scrubs and other players the coach won't put in the lineup. Also, never admit a mistake and refuse to do anything about it."

    Patrick Eaves on Waivers

Wow, that's backasswards. Kenny waived players he knew would clear AFTER he signed them to deals that would clear. In other words, you're saying that Holland is a good judge of the bad contracts he's offered. 1. Sign a player to a bad deal 2. Waive said player knowing he will clear 3. Profit That's being a good judge of talent and value?

    Patrick Eaves on Waivers

Two waived players and two players no one else wants. I like Tootoo (Eaves is a plug) but this waiver trend is worrisome. Does Ken Holland really know how to evaluate talent and value?

    An honest question about Nyquist

Hope you're right. I've been hearing (here, mostly) that Mantha is big but doesn't really use his size.

    An honest question about Nyquist

I just don't see it. Who is the next Stevie Y for the Red Wings? The next Fedorov, Lidstrom, Dats, or Z? Where are these kinds of players in the Wings organization? Looks to me like the farm system has a number of potential second line starters (Nyquist, Tatar) but no real franchise type players.

    An honest question about Nyquist

I like Gus and Tatar both. When Tatar was sent down last year, I was disappointed. When Gus was assigned to GR to begin this season, I was disappointed. That being said, they're both undersized guys (as is Almquist, another Wings prospect people salivate over). Pinning long-term hopes on guys like these isn't realistic. They can probably make good contributions, but if anyone is expecting Gus and Tatar to assume the roles of Z and Dats, prepare for more disappointment. Most of the NHL is getting bigger.

That and for talking trash about Scotty Bowman, something about him having the personality of an ant. No thanks to Legace.

Marty the Marmot mascot attacked during WHL game

Looked to me like the guy in green piledrived (piledrove?) Marty to the ice. Lifted him completely into the air and threw him forcefully onto his back. Uncool. The guy in green should hope his punishment isn't being piledriven in prison.

Why Do They Trust The Youngsters?

I cannot stress how much I disagree with this. Who are you to tell other fans how to cheer, support, or follow their favorite team? To use the words from your previous post, "we as humans" need to stay the heck out of other people's business and let them live their own lives. Go Wings! I'll root for them however I like. Feel free to do the same.

As fans of Detroit, we've been blessed with a lot of gifted and above average centermen. Some of us oldsters remember Jimmy Carson playing on the 3rd line for the Wings and another time when Yzerman was centering a helicopter line: no wings, all centers playing out of position.

    Season Predictions

Not a chance. After the way Z willed this team into the playoffs last season, the Wings will not miss with him as captain. I believe in Z.

Torts on Twitter: "most narcissistic thing I have ever seen"

Twitter is used incorrectly by many narcissists, yes. They can pollute timelines in a hurry. There's a lot of junk, spouting off, and nasty opinions. But unless you're Pavel, the world doesn't care what you had for lunch or the size of your child's most recent bowel movement. In other words, they're doin' it wrong. I don't think this encompasses 99% of twitter's users, though. You just have to know how to sift through the garbage. Those of us who use twitter for work and recreation find it to be informative, convenient, and useful on a daily basis. For example, it serves as a terrific aggregate for current events, whether they be sports, politics, or entertainment.

    Holland Content with Current Roster

    (1) It's wise not to overspend. Whatever the cap turns out to be this year, the Wings shouldn't spend just to spend. Don't plug holes. Since the big UFA's didn't sign in Detroit, look to next year's free agents. (2) Go with a youth movement now (and finally). Give the youngsters in the organization a chance. Additionally, no one knows if the big UFA's next year will sign in Detroit or elsewhere. Best to rely on known quantities. (3) The Wings should consider trading away aging vets with value and possibly stars for quality prospects and decent draft picks. I don't know how many of you were fans of the Wings during the Bryan Murray era, but it was a fun time. Lots of new young players, lots of optimism and hope. Yes, it took Bowman to solidify the team and the Shanahan trade to put the Wings over the top, but the possibilities and hope of the young team was exciting to watch. The long term benefits also reaped much post-season rewards.
