Then you should get this. When the Wings have young guys that can play, they play. When they have low draft picks that need seasoning, they are sent to the minors to to develop. You made my point for me. You're so focused on the overripe buzzword that you're missing the forest for the trees. If the Wings drafted higher, if they drafted players with better natural, God-given talent, they wouldn't have to "overripen" kids. Larkin proved this. But if a kid has to spend 3-4 years in the AHL to develop, then, yeah, he's got to prove he can play in the NHL before he's promoted to full-time duty.

   You're obviously too young to remember the days of Paul Ysebaert, Kevin Miller, Sheldon Kennedy, Keith Primeau, and the numerous other young guys the Wings played before the glory years of the late 90s began. Also, how long do you think Fedorov, Lidstrom, Konstantinov, and Yzerman played in the minors? You're point about Larkin is exactly right, though. He's a special case, a top 5 talent that fell to us in the draft. Most of the other kids we draft aren't ready for the spotlight, hence "not good enough" (i.e.--destined for "overripening"). When the Wings start drafting higher, we'll see the overripening philosophy diminish. Just like in the early 90s.

I suspect a trade will be made for D help involving Nyquist or Tatar, so AA or Mantha (maybe both) will be up with the big club.

Why would folks complain about the Vanek signing? People were suggesting we sign Staal to a "show me" deal. Isn't the same kind of deal Vanek just got? Short term, fairly low money. Let's see if Vanek wants to earn more in 17/18.

Get a grip. "Over-ripe" is a euphemism for "isn't good enough." Look at Larkin. He played for the Wings as a 19-year-old rookie because he was good enough to do so.

1. Holland is doing everything he can to keep the Streak alive (whether we like it or not). 2. He won't be fired. 3. You'll be watching Oct. 13 (same as the rest of us saps).

I'm sensing a theme. Superstars are drafted. Complimentary players are overpaid via UFA. Until the Streak is broken, expect a middle of the road Red Wings team.

Proof is the Legwand trade. Proof is re-signing middle of the road players. Proof is striking out on Suter/Parise and Stamkos and then signing other teams' second tier vets. Proof is over-ripening supposed can't-miss prospects like Mantha. Proof is not committing to a genuine youth movement.
