What is with the refs man i swear to God. I give up. If I were a conspiracy theorist over the past 2 years it would be easy to build a case that the league doesn't want the Wings winning the cup for awhile, due to their success for 20 years.

Redmond just said the wings unoffically gave up about 19 shots on net in the first period. Now how can people claim the defense isn't that bad? That's ALL a defensive problem.

I know others have said it, but Lidstrom scares me. That goal does not happen 2 years ago. He's showing aging signs now. Still one of the best defensemen in the NHL but he's not where he was 2 years ago. Every now and then he has bad games. He never had a bad game until last year. I am very surprised we are down in this game. We HAVE to win this game tonight. SJ is salivating watching this.

YOu know, I agree 100%. It amazes me how protected goalies are unless you're a Red Wing Goalie. HOward was ran at least 3 times in the last 5 games and no call. He gets injured by a guy making contact with him first and then falling on him and not even a CALL on that. Are you joking? I'm actually all for some bumping and pushing in front of the net. If you touch a goalie, oh well. It's F'n hockey. I'm actually for keeping a goalie in the crease. If he comes out to play the puck beyond the crease and you bump him then oh well. Don't come out of the crease. If the goalie goes to get the puck, he can be checked. Oh well. But that's not discussion about refing, those are rule changes, so i digres. Just be consistent. If you want to call everything in a game, then call everything from start to finish. If you want to let everything go, then let it all go until it's a blatent penalty (i like these better anyway).

For me, it's not even a matter of if a ref misses a call once in awhile. Refs CLEARLY call penalties like crazy for a period and then stop calling them altogether the next. I swear to God it seems like they go into their referee lounge and someone from Toronto calls them, or someone talks to them telling them they're calling too many penalties and to slow it down. I just don't get how they can call chincy crap that looks phantom-like and then miss obvious penalties. I honestly do think that if they call a lot of penalties suddenly, they 'decide' to put the whistle away for awhile. It's not just wings fans that complain about refs. If you go onto any board, every teams' fans are complaining about the refs in most games. Honestly, it does seem like the refs that let the play go (i.e. McCreary), seem to be deemed as better refs. I tend to agree. I don't think it's good for hockey that the younger refs decide they're going to call every tap on the leg and every horizontal stick as a hook. That's not hockey. Just let the teams play, my God. I'm not saying there is a conspiracy against the wings, but it sure does seem that way sometimes. Last year in the playoffs, SJ gets a 5 on 3 in every F'n game. That's just ridiculous. Just my thoughts. One other thing: I'm tired of hearing people let the refs off the hook because of reasons like "the game is so fast". Yeah, well they're NHL refs in an NHL game. If they can't keep pace with the game, then get someone who can. I get the most frustrated when penalties that occur are so blatently obvious and they are not called. How can you miss a play on Homer last game but call a chincy hook on Zetterberg with 3 seconds left with the game tied? It's just stupid. I'm sorry. Had it happened the other way, I'd be less upset obviously, but I still would say it wasn't right.

I dont feel comfortable with Modano when he's out there. He just seems like he's going to pass to the wrong team, or not be reliable defensively.

We did, and he got a 5 minute major and a game misconduct penalty.

Anyone notice that most everybody says that just about every game is poorly referreed? I don't disagree, but just sayin. Perhaps this is another reason the NHL doesn't grow. Even hockey enthusiasts can't understand the calls. How would a newcomer?
