Someone posted a youtube clip of Anaheim doing almost the identical thing Bertuzzi did to the wings and they allowed it. So, the NHL was wrong on one of the calls. I would love to see the NHL try to explain the Anaheim clip and why it was allowed and then explain the Bertuzzi play and why it was disallowed.

LOL. And if the wings hadn't miraculously scored a goal by pure luck hit 2 edm players, the wings would have lost on arguably the worst goal Howard has given up this year. Look at the big picture there pal. Howard has a horrid GAA and a horrid SV%. This is the most retarded post I've seen here in awhile. First, don't compare yourself to Howard LOL. You're not an NHL goalie dude, so you are expected to let soft goals in. Second, Howard doesn't play solid. Howard has a horrible GAA. The real fact remains that the wings have not played well and have not been consistent at all over a long period of time, yet you're focused on a very lucky win yesterday, against the 3rd worst team in the league. People would be singing a very different tune today if we hadn't gotten purely lucky at the end there, VERY DIFFERENT. It would have been a 1-0 loss on the worst goal Howard's ever given up, and people would have been down on the wings offense, and their continued lack of defense, and continued lack of 60 minute play. IT WAS EDMONTON! Actually, it wasn't even Edmonton, it was the AHL Edmonton team. It was a joke that the wings couldn't score any goals against that team yesterday. LOOK at the big picture.

I was screaming at the TV when Lids was standing way out at the blue line with the puck. "MOVE IN"!!!!!!!! FFS there is 3 defenders on the ice! MOVE IN! This F'n team...

Why don't we just sign the big show to be our netminder? 7'1 500lbs.
-
Well, I was hoping I'd jinx something, guess not. God we suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I bet we get 1 shot on goal here and don't score. Hope I'm wrong.

Did the refs spend some time in Japan today before the game? Maybe that nuclear radiation is getting to them. WTF? (Thoughts and prayers are with the folks over there that were affected, no disrespect intended)

This is unbelievable. The anaheim goal looked like a deliberate attempt to deflect too.

I'm not even sure we can call it great hockey. Great that they won, but the worrying sign is it takes them 4-5 goals a game to win 4-3 or 5-4. How many wins this year did they only allow 1-2 goals a game, or even 3? That's what I am extremely worried about for the playoffs. We won't be scoring 5 goals a game, we'll be scoring 3 or 4 at most, which means Howard has to keep a 2-2.5 goals against and I am not confident that is going to happen.

It's called BEING A FAN. Fans get emotional, dude. Fan is short for fanatic. Fans have a right to be upset with the wings right now. They go out and extend a goalie's contract that does not look promising, and the effort night after night has been lacking. The wings will not be in 2nd place for very long if this keeps up. There's no excuse. We can't even blame injuries. NO EXCUSE.

That has to be the worst goal howard has given up this season.

I think we are a good team still but we aren't the best team in the league anymore, no matter what the standings are. Too many teams have better defense and good enough offense to beat the red wings. About 2 months ago I was thinknig we would get to the 2nd round and lose, likely drawing a good, hungry opponent. But depending who we draw in the first round, I have my doubts we get beyond round 1. If we run into a scrappy, fast skating team with a solid goalie, we are going to have a hard time scoring goals, and since our Defense is not what it used to be, and our goalie doesn't like to control any rebounds, we'll be in trouble. Just my opinion. I was a Howard fan all last year, gave him the free pass ,and up until recently. But lately I'm waivering. It's like he's been coached to "just stop the puck". He rarely controls rebounds, he overplays shots, several times lately he's been caught getting back to the post and if not for the defense the other team scores a wrap around. He just doesn't seem to have the basics to be in the NHL. It pains me to say that. Yes he's got the most wins in the league (or close to it), but that's more becuase the wings have the best offense in the league than it does Howard being a great goalie (just look at the numbers). In the playoffs, the offense will definitely be slowed down, and at this point, I don't beleive we can win games 3-2. I think the wings are going to have to give up a forward next year to get cap room for a solid goalie.

And then the obvious cross check on Zetterburg. The NHL is a joke. No wonder nobody watches it.

I went absolutely Berzerk when I saw that goal stood, because of what you just said. Players breathe on a goalie and they call goals back, but that was so obvious that the player deliberately stood his ground and did not allow Howard to get over to make a stop. It was out in white area and I understand the rule, but it was just infuriating, because far less has been called back. I hate the league refs. No wonder nobody watches the NHL. Average hockey fan out there would have seen that and said "how is that goal alloweD?"

The wings continue to show they don't want to play full games this year. They take games off, they play periods and not games, and the defense is not nearly as impressive as it used to be. Yes the wings will tighten up defensively, but the players they have on defense are not as good as other teams in the league this year. If we make it to the 2nd round that's what I expect this year. Too many good teams, Howard is a big question mark, and the wings will go from scoring 4-5 goals a game to 2-3. We don't win a lot when we score less than 4 goals. It is what it is. Howard's numbers are terrible. I am very worried about it. I am a howard fan, and I gave him the free pass last year no matter what, but this year he will be judged heavily. I just don't think the wings are good enough this year. And I think a lot of wings fans have developed a sense of entitlement, and that we are better than every other team because we are the wings. Well, there are some very good teams, arguably better teams this year, based on play not paper. I dunno, I'm worried.

I honestly don't know how players avoid taking their stick and wrapping it around a referee's head.

There ya go Ericsson. F you OTT.

He thought he was shot at and it was a pass, wasn't even a hard pass. Over-reaction by Howard. That's why it appeared so badly.
-
Yeah but there's two questions with that: 1. Who in the heck is available 2. Who can they afford? It's a prorated salary, but they don't have much money. Would have been nice to get nabokov.

Howard over-commited on every goal tonight. It's ridiculous. And this is coming from a Howard fan. He's really getting on my nerves lately though. Another 3+ goal game for Howard. It's getting ridiculous.
-
I'm a little surprised at the booing tonight by the crowd, but I think it's fully understandable.
-
Erickson F'd us on the 3rd goal. Instead of backing off he went to hit the guy who knocked the puck away from him to begin with, I thought maybe out of aggravation. That allowed the 2 on 1. Then Erickson looked like he quit skating as the play continued to develop. That really annoys me when i see that.
-
Doesn't it seem like Howard is over-committing an awful lot? He looks really rattled. I'd like to see Howard jam that blocker right into someone's chin.

I do agree with you there. Fighting just for the sake of fighting and then each other taps one another and says 'nice fight' is pointless. Thta's not what fighting was ever meant for in my opinion, so Milbury can suck it. But when you see a player get ran at and you send your enforcer out to handle some business, that's what I'm talking about. And that's whY I think fighting needs to be in the game. If you take fighting out completely, what would be a team's recourse? The league isn't going to clamp down with penalties and fines enough to get people running at stars out of the game.
-
But it's typical overreaction by talking heads. This kind of thing doesn't happen every other night in the league. It RARELY happens. So you issue some suspensions and fines and move on. You don't need to have knee jerk reactions like every politician in this country seems to enjoy doing. Plus, in my opinion, these kinds of incidents are good for hockey. It gets hockey on the front page of sports. It generates exposure for the league.
