I'm glad we aren't the ones down, the Pens have to expend the energy to try to tie up the game...
-
The wings need to play their strongest period of hockey in this third. They really need another goal to put really put the pressure on Crosby and the Pens. I hate only these 1 goal leads in such important games!
-
That last flurry was because of an icing call. Wings better kick it up. My God. Stop sitting back. TAKE IT TO THEM!
-
We're seeing Pens' best game and they're down 2-1. We have way too many turnovers and are playing so damn inconsistenly. COME ON WINGS, KEEP THE PRESSURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought McCreary was going to waive that goal off because there were 4 players in the crease there, but Malkin checked a Wing onto Fleury.
-
I'm not even as mad at the penalty as i am that the veteran ref is 20 feet away, looking right at it and doesn't call it. The ref 100 feet away, the rookie (newbie), calls it. You can't even see it from 100 ft away. He guessed. Then you let Ericson get checked to the ice, puck nowhere near him. Anyways, we better get the legs going. Wings had it going, then quit playing. Don't get it.
-
he did have hte puck..???? Erickson checked to the ice, puck on the other side of the rink.. right in front of the ref...no call.
-
Let's give NBC credit, they did a segment on Ozzie...
-
The complaint is, the veteran ref is 15 feet away and let it go, and the rookie ref is 90 feet away and calls it...
-
"And next...Crosby and Malkin, the good and the bad"...give me a break.
-
Usually Mc Creary lets the teams play, but he doesn't like the scraps after the whistle. I hope his partner doesn't call crap just to get involved in the game...
-
Uh, yeah dude. They went down 3-1 against a team that got swept in the next round. Come on. They fought back, admirable, but still lost. Deep teams don't get down 3-1...not sure I understand your argument. Don't compare regular season stuff to post season stuff. Nobody cares that they were number 1 in the regular season, sincerely, SJ Sharks. Edit: Mind you, they lost game 7 on home ice...
-
They're that mad over losing a 'rental player'? Odd. And they wonder why? Let's start with "uh they haven't won s***", sincerely, Detroit Red Wings.
-
Not that I'm disagreeing much with you, but are you really using Boston as an example? BOSTON? What have they done? Who cares about Boston? They were 2nd round fodder for the Hurricanes... At any rate...I don't think Getzlaf is the best either. He's great, not the best.

We'll see how much the Pens have grown up with this game tonight. All of the pressure, spotlights are on Pit tonight. If they go down 2-0, it's over. They're not coming back against this team. I don't care if they came back against Washington. That was Washington. This team is COMPLETE. You aren't winnin 4 out of 5 games. This is Pit's only chance to make a series out of this.

If the Wings win the Cup this year, what era is more impressive?
Firehawk replied to Headmanthepuck!'s topic in General
With the cap and defensive style of play these days, not to mention needing to go through 4 teams to win the cup, I'd say this one. -
that board isn't the only pens board saying things like that. I saw it on the HF board as well. I'm surprised how much they're calling the goals Fluery gave up that came off the boards as lucky, fluke plays and don't blame Fleury for those. I mean, Fleury was completely out of position. He is responsible for those goals. Anytime Ozzie allows goals like that we're ready to trade or not sign him back here. It's amazing. I'm sorry, but 'flower' looked very nervous from the start of the game yesterday. I had a huge laugh on that first goal. After falling on his face last year, then letting a goal like that in this year...hilarious.
-
If they're going to develop into great 2-way players, then they're playing in the wrong conference in my opinion.
-
WHat I don't understand is why people aren't talking about the soft goals that Fleury gave up. He's the reason they lost the game if you ask me. The rest of the team was hanging with the Wings very well. Fleury's poor positional play cost them the game, and will once again, cost them the series. If Ozzie had let those goals in yesterday, we'd be all over his case. I've already seen some posts about the one goal he allowed on 32 shots, in which he more than made up for and stole that game for us yesterday when we were trapped in our zone several times last night.
-
Wow, are you really defending a star on Anaheim? lol
-
I say the wings will win 4-2 tonight. Fleury has been exposed yet again. He's a horrible positional goalie, and the Wings are going to make him pay dearly in the rest of this series. All 3 goals he allowed were the result of his bad positioning.

YOu know what's interesting? A caller brought this up on the radio yesterday. 1997 - Wings defeat Philadelphia to win cup. 1998 - Wings defeat Washington to win cup. 2002 - Wings defeat Carolina to win cup. 2008 - Wings defeat Pittsburgh to win cup. Eastern Conference Opponents for Pittsburgh in 2009: Round 1 - Philadelphia Round 2 - Washington Round 3 - Carolina What a coincidence that was...
-
Again, they're every bit as good as their hype...... When they're playing Eastern Conference Opponents. As I said in another thread somewhere last night, If they were in the Western Conference, they would not appear as good at first (as we see when they play Detroit), but their game would adjust and they'd become better players. I do not think Crosby and Malkin are complete 2 way players YET. They'll get there, and when they do, they'll win their share of cups. But, they're not there yet. The wings know how to shut them down, and so far, they have done a great job. Malkin's assist on the goal was a heads up play by a great forward, but he's not going to get chances like that often in this series. Crosby was shut down pretty well last night. I thought along with everything else, the wings did give up too many pucks and the few chances Crosby had were a direct result of the bad turnovers.

I was really happy with the lack of calls in the game. The refs stayed out of it. For game 2 tonight, look for the refs to get more involved. I have that feeling. I mean, do we really expect the refs to put together 2 decently refereed games in a row? Come on. Although, I bet Mc Creary is refereeing tonight, so it should be fairly nicely refereed. I think both teams are primarily interested in playing skilled hockey. Of course, I thought that with Chicago, and after 2 games they started resorting to goon tactics. With the Pens, if they do resort to goonery, they'll probably get away with it.

Watching Erickson early in the game, you could tell he didn't want to take brute force hits. He looked like he didn't want to get trapped on the boards and get hammered. I'm sure the doctors put some type of extra stitching or whatever in there to make sure that wound didn't open on impact. If it were life threatening to put him out there when a hit could rupture that wound, I doubt he'd be in. We need him. I swear to God he reminds me of Lidstrom. Does anyone else notice that? He is a pretty big body but he moves gracefully just like Lidstrom...almost effortless at times.

Even if we should have had calls there, I'll take PP's 2 to 1 or 2 to 2 any day. That means they let the teams decide the game. Besides, since our PK sucks, it's advantage red wings LOL.
