You can't say the series would be tied. My guess is the Pens woulda gotten another 3 powerplays in order to tie the game.

Was it a hard slash to break the stick or was it one of those where the stick was probably barely together and it fell apart on its own for the most part? I fell asleep, woke up this morning and came right down here to watch the highlights, only to see a 5-3 PP in OVERTIME for Pitt. I was thinknig, WTF? Then came here to see what happened. Man...brutal.

WCQF GAME 1 GDT: Blue Jackets 1 at Red Wings 4

Did you see Babs complaining to his assistant coach when Holmstrom got mugged, then something similar happens on our end, to a much lesser extent, and we get a penalty? LOL Unbelievable. -
WCQF GAME 1 GDT: Blue Jackets 1 at Red Wings 4

Can the NHL make it any more obvious that they're against Detroit making it back to the cup? My God. Seriously. I try not to go out of my way to ***** about the refs, but they make it so hard for me to avoid it. With that said, it looks to me like Columbus can't handle Detroit 5 on 5 and Detroit started really coming on once all the PK was done. -
SO you thought that hook on Philly early in the game was a good call? Are yous serious? I thought it was typical "let's make sure Cindy makes it through the playoffs again this year" type of referreeing. Ok enough bashing... The canuck game is very intense. I love watching west conf hockey far more than east conference. It always seems more intense.

They weren't the stanley cup champs the past 2 years though either. I am praying they step it up. I think they will as well, but I'm not looking at the last 2 seasons when they were hungry to win a cup as my reasoning for thinking they'll step it up tomorrow. I'm looking at hoping that they want to repeat bad and were just trying to get through the regular season. I mean, for a team to win over 50 games and look like they weren't trying half the time, pretty damn impressive. Also, on the GDT looking at Ozzy's numbers is pretty goofy, 26-9 with a 3 goals against. That's a great record for a high GAA and a crappy SV%. New season starts later today baby!

OH BABY, BEST TIME OF YEAR! LETS GO WINGS! LETS GO WINGS! -
If you park at cobo, the roof might drop out! har har har... Here's wishing a good series to you...we're all stressed out already!

I had better see the wings come in fired up and keep it for 60 minutes on Thursday, otherwise I'll be quite worried. They took the last few games off so they need to be ready to go. I have confidence they will. Weren't the jackets like 1-7 or something like that in their last 7 or 8 reg season games?

Didn't read this whole thread, but apparently Claude Lemieux is with the SJ sharks now? I bet that's a move for when they play the wings in the WCF this year, as they know he bothers the red wings.

You know what, some of you people are F'n idiots. What a game. Cry about us giving up six, well they gave up five. GREAT GAME.
-
All this talk about us giving up 6, we just scored 5 on them...on the 'supposed best team in the league....gimme a break...
-
Trade Franzen for a goalie? Are you on crack? TRADE FRANZEN? ARE YOU NUTS? He's turning into a beautiful power forward and you want to trade him? My God. Ozzie hasn't been playing that well but his record is still excellent. I mean, people are overreacting a bit here. We just smoked SJ in our building 6-0. They haven't done that to us this year. The first time we met them on their ice this year, we had played the night before, and I think it was a much closer game at 3-2...
-
Are you guys serious? You expect ANY goalie to stop perfect top corner shots? Gimme an F'n break. Blame the D on the first breakaway, and blame the ref on the second, it wasn't even close, way off side, skate was a foot off the line when the puck crossed.
-
I've got to agree with you here. I love ozzie as much as the next person, but you can't really use that 'well he' won us 2 cups' reason to play him. Unfortuantely, what has he done lately? He's not been that good and he'll be the first to admit it. When it comes to tonight, we are playing the best or in my opinion, second best (to our wings) team in the league, so I mean, you can't fault the goalies here. They're facing alot of talent. The wings are taking retarded penalties, 2 penalties called for knocking the net off (both of which in my opinion shoudln't have been called), a penaltie on Lilja to put them down 2 which was another retarded call, and here we are. It's been the best game of the season for sure thus far...

I'd rather see the sharks lose the game and put up 60 shots on goal, than lose and put up 30 shots, just because it'd be a bigger hit to their ego .
-
I would have to say it will be just like last season's playoffs, Ozzie will start and if he's shaky, they'll give the job to Conklin...and the wings will win their 5th cup with 4 different goalies .
-
No, they're still not fair game, even though most people think they should be.

I brought this up in the last game day thread and most people ignored me, and the few that responded thought I was nuts. I'm telling you, this is going on. I don't know if it's happening in other games because I haven't watched other hockey yet this year, but it's obvious to me that the league told the refs to keep the games as close as possible. I like how the red wing opponents get a 5 on 3 every game. That can be interepreted in a few different ways: 1. the league thinks that highly of the red wings and feel the other team needs to have that kind of advantage to have a chance to win, 2. the league is tired of seeing Detroit at the top every year. It seems every game the wings get a lead and then get called on chincy penalties. Why are they calling chincey crap with less than 5 minutes to go in the game anyways? they did that in the SCF last year on us too and could have easily cost us the cup.
-
I'm glad the wings won, but I just have to go on a rant right now about this entire thing: Is it FRICKIN OBVIOUS to anyone else that the league has told the referees to make the games as close as possible after the ridiculous calls tonight? I mean seriously...look at every win the wings have been involved in this year. This one is the most obvious tonight. When the hawks were down, they got every call. Then the refs put the whistles away when it was tied up. I think it's a joke, and it's too much medeling in the games by the league in my opinion. If a team is up 2 or 3 goals, they earned it. Don't cheapen that by calling BS and giving the other team too many chances they wouldn't usually get to tie the game up. I think it's bordeline 'fixing' the games, without fixing them, if you know what I mean. Does anyone else notice this? And, I don't watch much other hockey, so if anyone else is reading this that watches other games, have you noticed it in those games as well? I mean, I think tonight made it blatently obvious. i wish babs would come right out and expose the NHL for it, take the fine.

Man, I just popped on here to say WOW what magic with dats and hossa. Man, If i were hossa i'd take a paycut for the rest of my career to play with the talent on this red wing team. That goal was absolutly gorgeous, prettiest goal this year.
-
You know what, I'm glad the Wings won this game, but I'm so sick and tired of the referees calling the weakest ass penalties on the wings when they have the lead and time is running out on the other team. I swear to God I believe the League is telling the refs to call late penalties like that just to make games more exciting or keep them closer. While I guess I understand some of the thinking behind it, this is ridiculous, and it stems from back in the playoffs when the wings kept getting called for BS type penalties when the game was on the line. It's F'n ridiculous.
-
I don't think Hossa has looked good, but it's been 4 games guys. He's on a team he probably never had so much talent around. The entire Wings team has not looked good for more than half the games played thus far. In my opinion, we should be lucky we're not 1-3 right now. While we're at it, how many players have goals? I mean, many players haven't done much, including Zetterberg. He's got one open netter, big deal. Let's keep this all in perspective. They are coming off a great season, they just saw the president, hopefully the festivities are winding down and they can focus now... I have no doubt in my mind that Babcock will get them focused. I would wait until 10-15 games to start ramming the players.

That's one of the prettiest goals I've ever seen.
