Yeah the wings aren't finishing their checks. They better get it going. Almost no pressure in the Ducks zone at all that period.
-
What is the deal with the wings? When are they going to get their legs going? My God.
-
Let's just get out of this series in 5 games so we can rest CHellios .
-
Quincey is playing rock solid. I hope he earns his way onto the team next year.
-
Yeah it was a rhetorical question LOL. Hell yeah Dom stole that one. Can you remember the last time the Wings won a game like this one last night? In my opinion they were slow and off a bit, except their PK was superb, people going down blocking shots...absolutely wonderful. But otherwise, they were slow. It can be argued that both goals were lucky bounces...but when honestly was the last time the wings won a game like that? I think this is a wonderful sign. Quick, someone sacrifice a Duck to the hockey gods.

Yeah I thought the reffing was horrid again last night, not just because they put us down 5-3 and 4-3 on what could be considered very weak calls, but because of everything they let go. Can you honestly sit there and tell me that the Ducks played the first period clean enough to get 1 penalty called on them? I mean come on. Every time VS showed Holmstrom doing his work in front of the net, the puck was nowhere to be seen and there's pronger hacking away on him. That was a penalty early in the regular season. That, not to mention the clear hand-over-puck incident, and many others. I think the WIngs got away with some as well. I think Niedermeyer took a clear dive when Zetts took him down. But what makes me proud is the red wings looked very good on the PK and for once, they were falling all over the ice trying to block shots!!!!!!!! That was maybe the most impressive thing I saw out of them last night. They were actually sprawling out to stop the shots instead of going into a cocoon on their feet and blocking about 1 foot of ice. I think the wings will get it going offensively too. They didnt' really play that well last night in my opinion.

Could it be argued that...Dom stole this one for us?

I agre about that hit on Cheli by Perry. It clearly looked like he coudl have gotten out of the way there. Ridiculous. Had he injured Chelios there I'd be looking for the league to suspend him...ridiculous. Play hard, but play fair. My God.

FINALLY the wings are playing! YAY. Doesn't it seem like we played Calgary a year ago? Sheesh. Wings win 3-1 tonight. They really gotta work at getting to Giggy. I think without second chance opportunities and screens, we'll never get a goal against him. So, Holmstrom, do your thang. Hopefully the refs call penalties and not let all the hacking and whacking go.

Hasek and Chelios will be asked to re-sign with Wings

I don't care how old Chelios is, if he keeps playing how he's been, let him play. -
I was thinking the EXACT same thing. SJ had their best season in franchise history as well, but they weren't better than Detroit. Detroit still finished higher than Anaheim despite the fact that this is 'anaheim's best team ever'. We'll see in a week or two.
-
I had this discussion with a friend of mine the other day. When you look at Giguere in the net he does look ENORMOUS, far bigger than most other goalies.
-
3-400 bucks for 2 seats is what is keeping me away.
-
DET/ANA - *Detroit in 6* BUF/OTT - *Ottawa in 6*
-
Didn't I see that exact same post before the SJ series started?
-
I just wanted them to get deep into the playoffs, so I'm happy. If they play hard and lose then I will not be upset. If they stink it up and give it away then I'll be upset. I think Anaheim will be more of SJ with better defense. I think we can hang as long as our Defense holds up.
-
ALl i can say is the wings better quit sitting back cause if they don't this will swing towards SJ. And whomever said this has been a perfect road game for the wings...it only seems that way (no goals allowed yet) because hasek has bailed them out. This has been far from perfect. Man I'm worried still. I'll be worried until I see the wings playing like they're down 2-0.
-
Am I the only one that does NOT like how Detroit is playing right now? Man...SJ is going to score a goal eventually if they keep trying to play NOT TO LOSE. COME ON GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Are you guys all drinking already? My Goodness. I asked about the FIRST OPPORTUNITY for the wings to eliminate a team, THAT stat. So in 98, they were 2-2. They were 4-2 if you include 2nd chance opportunities...but that's not what I asked originally. Anyways, my point for starting this thread was to kind of give people confidence about tonight. The wings are money when they get someone against the wall.
-
Anybody know? It seems once they get teams to that point, they finish them off. I'd love to know this stat.
-
This is why I wanted to mention it. 14-3 is DAMN good for not giving teams a second chance. I'm also figuring it out right now but so far I've got 11-2 and i have 3 more years to look at. Ok so I went through 04 because 2005 was lockout right? Can't remember right now lol, and we lost to Edmonton in 6 last year so no chance to knock an opponent out. So Here's what I get: 1997 - 4-0 1998 - 2-2 1999 - Never had chance 2000 - 1-0 2001 - Never had chance 2002 - 4-0 2003 - Never had chance 2004 - 1-0 Total: 12-2. Now that's phenomenal when you think about it. This number means that the wings are 12-2 when they first get an opponent to face elimination. This means the wings do not let a team hang around very much and deliver the knockout punch immediately. Now you take into account this year, and the wings are 13-2 thus far. That's VERY IMPRESSIVE. And that spells doom for SJ tonight!
-
I said when THEIR OPPOSITION is facing elimination...so in essence, when the wings get 3 wins against a team, the following game what is the red wing's record?
-
I think SJ is going to be playing hesitant tonight and afraid to give up something bad, especially being in front of the home crowd. That's going to play in the hands of Detroit. I think SJ is beaten down mentally, being a younger team and all. Detroit will win tonight, it'll be pretty close though, maybe OT necessary. Even fi we don't, I'm not worried for game 7.
-
The sharks are beaten down mentally in my opinion. They're in huge trouble. The fact that they'll be at home could play against them as well, being worried about disappointing the crowd. Remember that the sharks are the team that is supposed to win in this series, not Detroit. The wings are loose now and I seriously doubt this series will go to 7 now. Even if it does, the wings aren't going to lose another home game in this series. I think Detroit will win in 2OT 2-1.

I am glad the Devils are knocked out, but I must say, what a poor display of 'desperation' by NJ. My God. They reminded me of the Calgary flames in game 1 of our series this year, just no passion, no intensity, no nothing. ANd with everything on the line too, what a shame.
