    Conn Smythe Trophy Discussion

I saw one single save that makes the difference for me. I'm a goalie, and unfortunately the non-goalie crowd might not recognize it, but it was just amazing. I don't even remember when the play was or who shot it, but it was a pass across and a one-timer and Osgood was just there. My friend (also a goalie) had a look of amazement, and my jaw just dropped. It was a chest save. Osgood is just not flashy. Nabokov, on the same shot, would likely have gotten across slower and made a beautiful glove save. Had Osgood been slower, but made the glove save, we'd all be talking about his game-saving stop right now. In a one-goal game, you just can't ask for more.

    Stanley Cup rating?

Detroit's NHL 18.2 rating is only from NBC. TONS of people in the detroit area watched it on CBC.

    Conn Smythe Trophy Discussion

It's impossible to rule Ozzy out right now. Zetterberg has 1g 1a 0+/- in three finals games. If he doesn't have a good game or two in the finals, Osgood could very well win. The Smythe is going to come down to these last few games. Whoever distances himself from the pack. I still think it will be Ozzy... Dats, Z, Franzen, Lids, and Kronwall will split votes unless SOMEONE has a big game or two to finish out.

    Conn Smythe Trophy Discussion

Datsyuk is at least at the level of Z, but 0 goals at home compared to 9 away is just... weird. I think his defensive impact is bigger than Z's.

    Conn Smythe Trophy Discussion

Now this is an inherent problem. It's harder to judge when a forward "steals" a game, or wins it mostly on his effort. The real question is, who has the biggest impact, night in and night out? Honestly, I'd give it to Ozzie. So he hasn't outright stolen a game. Big ******* deal. He's saving 93.5% of the pucks that come his way, and gives the Red Wings machine the base it needs to run strong. He hasn't lost any games for us. How many goalies go an entire 2-month playoff run without a bad game? I think the Wings run such a strong team effort, that Oz becomes the natural choice. Secondary scoring, solid goaltending, and strong team defense has gotten us this far. Ozzie is the individual that best exemplifies those 3 things. Zetterberg has had more important multipoint efforts than any other Wings forward, and has 3 GWG to his name. Zetterberg has won us a couple of games, no question. Also, great defensive effort, but will that count towards the Smythe? Datsyuk has only had one multipoint game where it really mattered, and just one GWG. Plays great D, but D is harder to judge for the Conn Smythe. Franzen scored 9 of his 12 goals in the weak Colorado series, and missed the Western Conference Finals. He's out of the running unless he absolutely SHINES in the finals. Kronwall has 13 assists, has been one of the most physical players in the playoffs, and has a higher +/- than Lids, but I'm just not seeing much Conn Smythe pull. Could happen with a few monster games in the finals. Osgood has been a model of consistency, and he has the stats to back it up. Even in his losses, the Wings were in the game and he gave them plenty chance to win. Should finish with a GAA under 1.75 and a SV% around .935% if all goes well. Two finals shutouts so far -- another one would lock up the Smythe no matter what happens.

SCF Game 3 GDT: Penguins 3, Red Wings 2

Maybe we're just trying to break the trend of always blaming the goalie...? Stuart f***ed up more on the first goal. Second goal is a power play with an uncovered back door. Can't ask for that save, but it would have been nice. Third goal...BARELY Oz's fault... did you see the THREE Red Wings just standing around in the crease with their thumbs up their asses? Why didn't one of three chase? Or even two of three? Hall had all the time in the world to pick that spot. Absolutely ******* rediculous. Ozzie made a lot of big saves. He gave us a chance to win. It wasn't his best, but it wasn't a bad game by any means.

SCF Game 3 GDT: Penguins 3, Red Wings 2

We didn't get dominated. We stayed in the game for the full 60 minutes. Two of the Penguins' three goals were flukey as hell. We will come back and play harder in game 4. Luck doesn't last forever.

Perhaps if ANY of the three Red Wings standing in the crease would have pressured Hall behind the net, Oz would have had plenty of time to get back in place. But it's always easiest to blame the goalie, isn't it?

First reaction: WTF Ozzie? Second reaction: Three guys in front of the net, and NONE challenge the guy behind? Damnit...

Jesus Christ. Everyone calm the f*** down. Two goals in half of a game IS NOT THE ******* APOCALYPSE. It happens, quite often even! 1. This game isn't over. 2. Did you really think we'd sweep the Pens, regardless of how the first 2 games (at the Joe) went? The Wings are the better team, whether they win or lose tonight . That's why a series has 7 possible games.

For f***s sake, come on... Any goalie can save any goal if you look at it under a microscope. Turnover 15' inside of the blueline, puck takes a weird bounce off Stuart, and Crosby stuffs it. I credit Oz for getting across and square to the shot that quickly, unfortunately he didn't have time to close everything. That one goes square on Stuart.

POLL: Franzen In.Who Should Come Out?

Definitely. Mac has been OUTSTANDING for a 36 year old with no training camp, and one month to prepare for the NHL... I think we'll see more if he comes back next year.

I'm sure the wings will be awoken by something even more bizarre in Pittsburgh.

Ozzie's chances improve because we have so many performers up front. The skaters will split eachother's vote, and Oz will take the win.

O'Hallaran - Default call is 'interference'?

I don't think most people are disputing that it was against the rules, but why is game 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs the first time they enforce the rule in that way? I have NEVER seen a goal disallowed on a play like this.

As good as Samuelsson and everyone else played in the 2nd and 3rd, Ozzy won this game in the first.

    Sammy?

Most of the hate is because he often leads our team in shots...yet never scores. He has a knack for hitting shin guards, goalies' logos, and the jaws of better Wings players. The area around the net is also a big target for Sammy. Plus he is usually the weak spot on our powerplay playing the point.
