He led the league goalie-wise in the entire regular season and the first 5 games of the playoffs. I doubt he'll "hang em' up" because of 2 bad playoff games. Though it definitely sucks for his team

He played drop-in hockey at Troy Sports Center a couple times last year. I stoned him a few times in net, though I'm pretty sure he scored on me at least once. He's not a bad skater at all.

When the NHL had 21 teams, 16 made it. Now that the NHL has 30 teams, still only 16 make it. Is it best for professional hockey to exclude teams like Washington, which has been one of the better teams in the NHL? (33-17-7 since a coaching change) They may miss by as little as 1-2 points, which in my opinion is a shame. It seems to me that every year there is a team or two that would have a very good chance to do well in the playoffs, but miss by a point or two because of a rocky start to the season. On the flip side, the current playoff system in my opinion, is PERFECT. I don't like the ideas suggested in the article. Trying to fit in a couple more teams would probably not work without some kind of overhaul or added rule changes. Simplicity is the best thing about the current format. Really good teams may miss the playoffs, but it also adds to the parity at the end of the regular season. These last six season games turn out to be "playoff" games for some teams. I definitely do NOT like the idea of a bye system. Two weeks off in hockey can put a team in a major funk, and better seeded teams should not get a disadvantage like that. The seven game series needs to stay. Forever. If I had my way, the NHL would just be capped at 26 teams But that obviously won't happen. What do you guys think about finding a way to add a couple of playoff teams to the mix?

I do think expanding the playoffs would be a bad idea -- i just thought the article was interesting. Personally, I think 26 teams would be perfection. Goodbye Nashville, Atlanta, Florida, Tampa Bay. Convert into an NBA team or something. Phoenix and Carolina, you guys can move back to Winnipeg and Hartford, where people actually liked you, and/or knew hockey existed.

Jim Carey for sure. He won the Vezina out of nowhere, then his career just trailed off. He had the natural ability but not the drive of an NHL goalie. He had enough money to invest and live on, and quit hockey at 24.

More interesting goalie stats: Osgood home: 13-5-1 .895% Osgood away: 13-4-2 .936% Hasek home: 13-4-1 .907% Hasek away: 11-5-2 .892% Osgood on Wednesdays: 7-0-0 .951% With this new information, I believe babcock should start Hasek in all home games and Osgood in all away games. Wednesday games are all Ozzy's.

That's flawed logic. In terms of overall greatness, anyway. Gretzky had 120 assists in his 92 goal year. Ovechkin may be more of a pure goal scorer, but it's hard to compare because you have to think Gretzky could have scored a bit more if he wasn't busy setting up 120 goals. It really was a different league back then though. Gretzky had a goal or an assist on 51% of Edmonton's scoring that year, and maintained close to that percentage for many years. Ovechkin has been involved in 47% of his team's goals this year. An amazing feat in itself. Not taking anything away from Ovechkin. Stats don't really directly compare between now and 20 years ago, but Ovechkin is on pace to become one of the great players in the NHL. If he keeps pace for the rest of his career he would be known as the greatest pure goal scorer in history.

Geez i was just showing stats since the break, not really an arbitrary date. After the break is when teams gear up, make trades, and prepare for the playoffs. People regularly compare stats after the break because sometimes it gives a more accurate representation of which teams or players are hot now, you know, when it matters. Nobody is saying Cheech is a better goal scorer than AO, but it would be a reasonable assumption that he will perform well down the stretch and into the playoffs, because he scored the most in the last half of the season. To put this in a Wings persepective for you, look at Hasek. His overall SV% is a POINT EIGHT ******* NINE NINE. .899%. 38th in the league. Should Babcock send him down to GR because of his performance over the entire season, or would it be better to estimate his performance over the last half of the season, you know since an arbitrary date like, let's say January 15th, when deciding on his play time? This is why people use stats from the after all-star break. Because nobody really ******* cares what happened in October when trying to gauge their team for the playoffs. (However, I don't like Hasek and I wouldn't mind seeing him in GR )

We may have created a massive differential in the first half, but the last half hasnt been quite so dominant: Goals For/Against Since the AS Break: (Not all teams shown obviously) Dallas- 63/47 Colorado- 62/56 Detroit- 55/54 Anaheim- 51/37 Hopefully we can blame all that on February.
