Didn't we hit 3 posts on the 5on3 in question? Plus we managed 18 or so shots. Pucks weren't going in and Kiprusoff was great, but I would hardly call it an ineffective 5on3. That said, I like the strategy you've outlined.

No, I dont think this would ever happen. Pro athletes love to win, but they also want to make money. What determines how big their contracts are? Regular season play / statistics / etc. This is why players on bad teams (for the most part) just don't mail it in. Same reason players on the Red Wings aren't going to mail it in. It could affect their next contract.

We scored 5 goals and Conklin let in a couple of questionable ones. I don't see how you can be suprised at all that the goalie is going to get some blame in this situation.

I'll give it the fair mention: 2+ soft goals from our goaltending tonight. One of these guys needs to step up.

Not trying to bash, but I hate Conklin's technique at the side of the net. He's played well overall but it seems like so often he gives up a goal either in the VH or coming out of it. [VH is the move where one pad is down on the ice and the other up on the post] Now get one back! I'd like to see Zetterberg score tonight.

That's a theory I've been thinking about/posting since last year. Osgood was much better in away games vs home games in 2008 (.931 vs .891) and slightly more respectable away than at home this year. Every other Wings goalie (Conklin included) is always better at home comparitively. Conklin this year: Home: 14-1-0 .935% 1.74GAA 4SO Away: 10-7-1 .895% 2.99GAA 2SO I wouldn't mind Babcock pulling a home/away rotation for a while. Put both goalies where they're best and hopefully they both get going and play great.

I don't think there could be a rotation in the playoffs. Even if it started that way, if one goalie got hot there was no way you could sit him for the rotation when every game matters so much. I do think Osgood's ability in away games (for whatever reason) is one of the underrated reasons why he's usually so good for his team in the playoffs. Road wins are very important there. Conklin has been really good at home this season, but I think we'd all like to see him play better away from the Joe. If he ends up starting the playoffs, hopefully he does. At this point, who knows who's going to start. I think it really depends on what happens in the last month of the season.

TURNOVERS. We're not going to win anything in the playoffs if the turnover stat is 14-2 (IIRC) in the opposing team's favor.

lol, other team's forums. They were trashing Osgood 5 minutes after we won the cup. I think what some people don't realize is that Luongo on the Red Wings WOULD NOT look dominant like Luongo on the Panthers/Canucks. Our team and system hardly gives our goalies the chance to win games for us. He would put up nice stats, but he wouldn't be the difference maker almost every night like he is for Vancouver. That said, I would like the Wings to get a starter than we can ride for 4+ years. Whether it's Howard/Larsson or a free agent, it would be nice to be set for a while instead of our constant merry-go-round of goaltenders.

Babcock would have pulled him WAY before 7 if it was 70% his fault. The team sucked all around. I hope they're all thinking about the suckage right now.

x2 Does anyone really think we're going to win ANY game in which the team plays like that, regardless of who's in goal? The Red Wings sucked. Osgood sucked. Larry Murphy sucked. Hell, Conklin came in and let in a softie. Everyone involved in this game sucked. Move on.
