We gain nothing by naming Conklin starter now. Start Ozzy as much as possible in the next few weeks, if he still sucks, then we'll know if we need to make Conklin our starter or trade for a goalie.

HOSSSSSSAAAAAAAAAAAAA

there's the clutch breakaway save we've been waiting for! wooooo!

I would say likely Conklin but I wouldn't be shocked to see Ozzy play at all. Babcock said he liked his play in the last two games and I think he's trying to get him going.

mason is a god

holy s*** f*** dats is awesome

A 28 game slump shouldn't condemn a career. They are giving him starts because getting 2008 form Osgood back would give us the best chance at a repeat. So here's to him doing well.

http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/20...again_toni.html Ozzy confirmed start. I'm feeling a big win! also Mason getting back in for the BJ's.

I was just looking for an excuse to post youtube highlights. He'll come through one of these games on a breakaway. He's got the skill... they don't save themselves in a shootout and he's done well there. Honestly I'd wait for another chance before burying him. As a goalie, those breaks directly behind your defense and across the net are TERRIBLE. You have to play the shot so you're already a step behind in going across after your man fails to hold him outside. I often curse my defense and think to myself that it would be easier if they just let him by at center for a clean break.

Here ya go

great to see ozzy play a good solid game, and leino rocks good game.

Datsyuk does not get the credit he deserves because he plays on a team with Zetterberg, Hossa, Lidstrom, etc. Although, if you look around HFboards, he is finally getting some recognition as one of the league's best players.

Aww lame. Today is my 21st birthday. Ozzy has been my favorite player since I was 8. Was hoping he would get the start and do well. Put in Ozzy Babs! If not, hopefully Conklin plays well and we dominate Nashville.

At least he's money when it comes to the shootout. Highest winning pct (min 4 shootouts) Chris Osgood DET 4/4 = 1.000 Peter Budaj COL 6/7 = 0.857 Ryan Miller BUF 6/7 = 0.857 H. Lundqvist NYR 7/9 = 0.778 Manny Legace STL 3/4 = 0.750 Carey Price MTL 5/8 = 0.625 Dany Sabourin PIT 3/5 = 0.600 Steve Mason CBJ 3/5 = 0.600 Marty Turco DAL 4/8 = 0.500 A. Niittymaki PHI 2/4 = 0.500 J. MacDonald NYI 2/4 = 0.500 Tomas Vokoun FLA 2/4 = 0.500 Highest save pct (min 10 shots) Jonas Hiller ANA 16/19 = 0.842 Chris Osgood DET 10/12 = 0.833 H. Lundqvist NYR 21/26 = 0.808 Ty Conklin DET 8/10 = 0.800 Ryan Miller BUF 20/25 = 0.800 S.Clemmensen NJD 9/12 = 0.750 Dany Sabourin PIT 14/19 = 0.737 Martin Biron PHI 10/14 = 0.714 R. Luongo VAN 15/21 = 0.714 Carey Price MTL 17/24 = 0.708 Peter Budaj COL 17/24 = 0.708 Conklin also doing very well at 8/10. Together they are 18/22. Top shootout tandem in the league! lmao. Now we just need to get Ozzy to stop 10/12 regular breakaways. Rangers really benefit from the shootout with Lundy in goal

I like the confidence, hopefully it shows more in his game soon. I don't think he's lost his ability. It seems to be all in his head. Anyone else notice that as soon as the Wings get a 2 or more goal lead, he goes to s***? I think he's afraid of blowing the lead, which in turn causes him to blow the lead. It just seems like he plays better if the score is close. He has shown flashes of what he can do lately. I'd like to see a full game of it on Saturday or Sunday.

Second list is sv%, but they list it as saves/shots. So 10/12 = 12 shots 10 saves
-
I'd rather have him at least pretend to be confident than take the Manny Legace route: "OH GOD, why me! I'm so bad! My team hates me I'm the worst player in the NHL... SOMEBODY GET ME A GUN" :D

Thanks for the defense. That's exactly what I was trying to show. I chose 4+ because we are scoring about 3.68 goals per game - so when our goalie lets in four (each one about 1/3 of the time) it means we need above average goal support to win. Obviously Conklin has been better overall. We don't need to analyze statistics to see that. I was just pointing out that he's been pretty inconsistent as well. I thought it was interesting because we've actually gained more points with Ozzy in net, so I looked for a pattern to see why.

Very good point. Remember all those great saves in the playoffs last year where he was 2' out of the crease, this year he's getting raped by passes across and scrambles. When the Wings and Osgood are both playing well they are a very good match.

This is an interesting statistical set I saw perusing our goalies' game log: CONKLIN'S GOALS AGAINST 4+: 9 games 3 or Under: 15 games Percentage of games allowing 4+: 37.5% OSGOOD'S GOALS AGAINST 4+: 10 games 3 or Under: 17 games Percentage of games allowing 4+: 37.0% What does this show? Not much really. Just that we don't have a consistent goaltender and either one is allowing 4+ and making it harder to get a win about 37% of the time. Obviously Conklin's statistics are much better than Ozzy's in the 3 or under games.

I'm going to outlevel everyone with this perspective... Twenty-Seven Games That's it. 27 games started. Most starters in league have that many starts in early December. I'm not saying he's guaranteed to turn it around, but just from a statistical perspective it's a fairly small sample size to condemn a career.
