I would take the 1st round picks. Edmonton will not be that good, and neither will Buffalo even if they have Vanek. You're looking at potentiallty two top 10 picks next year in a very strong draft. Edmonton is basically mortgaging the future for Vanek.

I just finished watching a local show here in Montreal and the host said that Red Wings fans are extremely smart for not purchasing ridiculously priced playoff tickets. He also mentioned how this may be worrisome for teams such as the Canadiens who also assume that fans will buy tickets no matter what the charge. He applauded the fact that this is a rare case where fans are sending a real message.
