Favorite to least Favorite Wings Players

top guys pavs Z Rafa Lidstrom Homer Fil Cleary Franzen Hudler need em on the team Draper Lebda Kronwall Lilja Malts Chelios Downey My least favorite BUT are playing well and a effective when playing there role Drake Samuelsson Kopecky and the goalies are fine, i'd like to see Hasek in the playoffs though by the way he is playing lately. I like how Ozzie is taking half the games off of hi mso he is fresh come playoff time. I used to love when Ozzie was in the net, but the team plays differently when it is Ozzie, it seems when Dom is in they only allow 20 or less shots and when Ozzie is in he has to make great saves 25 + shots. I like the way Sammy has been playing lately. Keep him on the 3rd line and we have an effective Sammy, have him with Hank and 17+ minutes OH O! SAMMY will take away from what Hank brings.

    Fedorov back on the wings?

nobody reads this post that is why you do not have many replies or thoughts. I think the Wings should not add anything. Unless they only win .250% from here to the trade deadline, then I would welcome a change. Otherwise with the way the chemistry is, dont screw that up Holland.

    Samuelsson does not fit in

Yea, I hope others that bashed him in my thread can realize that he has been playing a lot better. Let's credit that to Babcock putting him in the right situations. Let's not forget that when he was playing poorly, Holmstrom was out and Sammy had to eat up some minutes, and now that Drake is out Sammy has moved into a third line role.

    Samuelsson does not fit in

I started this thread about a month and a half ago i think and at that time Sammy was lost in my opinion. A lot of you agreed and some good debates were present. BUT I haven't noticed Sammy as much! That is a good thing that means he is not turning pucks over too much and shooting like that is all he knows. He is playing soo much better. I like him on the third line with Draper, they play well together and I hope he stays there. My view on him has changed since last month, he is an assest and worth the price JUST DON'T PAIR HIM WITH HANK!!!! Zetterberg is the sniper, we do not need Sammy taking shots away from Hank. Z and Pavs are back in the swing and Hank is coming for the Hart, Rocket, and Art Ross with Datsyuk by his side winning the Selke and Lady Bing WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO go wings. but just keep Sammy away from top minutes! he is playing great right now.

    Ken Daniels

Daniels is great and Murph is even Greater. Murphy is halarious because he is so over the top sometimes. He is like Pierre McGuire except Murph has trouble getting it out and his hands move like Ricky Bobby, he doesn't know what to do with them. Overall Daniels stats are fine and Murph is the next colour guy.

    Ron Wilson blah blah blah

I met Babs, bought him a beer, funny guy and Wilson is a joke.

    Rafalski?

Rafalski is a great addition! Plain and simple. I did not think much of Scneids last year, he wasn't good defensively whereas Rafalski is and knows what is takes to win championships. Every Wing fan will enjoy him in the playoffs.

A new point system for the NHL

I don't mean to disprestect you, but why would you increase the amount of points given on any given night? That is the problem right now, there are too many 3 point nights which keep soo many teams in the race. Look at the East, they have about 5-6 points separating 3rd to 10th. It is not working well right now to give points to a losing team, and also when someone says a team that is 20 - 18 - 12 is 2 games above .500??? come on they lost 12 games that you aren't counting, why not count overtime/shootout wins as well so we know how many teams have actually been given the extra point based on the flip of a coin. Any way your idea of give 4 point!!! 4 POINTS to the winner? that is ridiculous. The teams would play extremely defensively in OT so they could get the extra point in a shoot out based on your logic? just rediculous 'new system' next time leave it at the bar stool. 2 points to winner 0 points to loser

    1/15 GDT: Thrashers 5, Red Wings 1

The Wings brought it to the Sens in the third period despite the loss and they will most definetly bounce back and crush the Thrashers. Red Wings 7 - 0 Thrashers Z, Cleary, Homer, Mule, Fil, Z, Hudler a couple powerplay goals, Lilja lays a huge hit tonight, possibly a fight. But no rivalry and only meeting so maybe not.
  10. I live in Ottawa and they play tonight against Buffalo, yet everyone is looking past them and foward to the Yzerman induction on Friday followed by a battle of the best of the West and beast of the East (not so much of a Beast are they?). Anyway, it is nice to finally hear the sports talk radio station talking about how good the wings are. I am going to meet Yzerman on Friday at the induction ceremony and on Saturday I will be sporting my Datsyuk jersey and decked out in Wings gear I must admit I was surprised how big of a game this is for Sens fans. I marked it down only because I live here, otherwise it is just another game against another opponent the Wings will leave in the dust. Even Spezza said he can't wait to score on Hasek again, I hope Ozzie is in because Spez has 3 goals in 2 games against Hasek and Hasek is un human against Minnesota. Well the Wings will come into Ottawa, score 5 in the first, send the Sens fans home at the start of the third period (as they usually leave with 10 minutes left in third anyway) and then go on there way back to Detroit with another Win under there belt. What do you guys think about this great respect for the Wings from a Stanley Cup contender?

Ottawa Fans are looking ahead to Saturday's game

Why not a Bruins fan? You don't like Timmy Thomas? You must have been cheering for them a little with Dave Lewis at the helm for a year? By the way (I did not like Dave Lewis at all)

Ottawa Fans are looking ahead to Saturday's game

right on guys!! I hate the sens too. I hang out with some friends watching the game and when they get scored on I cheer a little, I am not a die hard fan of their opponent every night, I am a Sens hater. Come Saturday I will be going insane when the Wings light them up and hopefully shut down their top line BECAUSE THAT IS ALL THEY HAVE!

1/10 GDT: Wild 6, Red Wings 5 (SO)

Wow Rafalski you are the piece the Wings needed. Great play defensively, well done real calm. WOOOOO. great game so far. I am going to the Sens game on Saturday v the Wings and I am behind the Wings bench, I will have a Datsyuk jersey on, look for it, I will be going crazy.

    Red Wings MVP

For me Rafalski is the mid year MVP, well maybe I am so used to Lidstroms greatness, but Rafalski brings reliability to the back end as Nick can not play the whole game. By separating them Babcock has made the team so much better. And when they play together they are unbeatable. Sure Rafalski will never be mentioned for it while Nick is here, but in my book he has to be given credit for being so steady back there and getting so many points. He is definetly worth the 6 million a year so far and I don't see him slowing down he has been through the wars of the playoffs many times ... JUST A GREAT ADDITION!!
  15. I was bashing Sammy earlier about a month ago. But, last night he hardly played on Z's line, it was Hank, Hudler and Cleary THAT WORKED WELL, and Pavs Fil Homer. I would like to see the 3 reunited and have Franzen with Sammy and Kopecky and Drake MAlts Drapes, that would be great. Babcock has been great all year with finding good combinations, I saw though that Sammy was paired with Z at some points in the game. Exactly, Sammy shoots alot, just like Z shoots alot, it doesn't work well. Although Sammy was passing a lot more last night trying to set Z up, which didn't work because when Sammy passes it is hard for even Hank to handle. But all in all as Wing fans we do not have anything to complain about, the D is playing great, Lebda and Kronwall and ofcourse the Pain train are all picking their games up. And my vote for MVP this year has to go to Rafalski so far, even though I said Lidstrom or Datsyuk a few days ago, just watching Rafa play makes me feel a lot better about the playoff run. He compliments Lidstrom well, if they are paired up or not, he gives the defensive core a lot more stability. GO WINGS (GREAT to see Homer back setting Pavs up with a beauty.

    Red Wings MVP

Hey, why are you putting down Howard? I think if Hasek got off to that bad start and Howard came in and played as poorly as you are suggesting, then Hasek would have taken the whole load, as for him getting injured, it wasn't that long. They are playing great and I hope they keep it up.
  17. redwings56

    Red Wings MVP

Dan Cleary is really impressing lately. He is on pace for mathematically almost a 30 goal season, but I think he might hit 25 goals, maybe 30 if he continues to play First line minutes with Datsyuk. My MVP is Datsyuk though, when Hank went down, Pavs racked up the points and took some of the load off of Lidstrom shoulders while leading this team. Oviously Lidstrom is an elite defensemen and you can not find a better guy to lead the team, but we expect that from him it has become a given that he will be so great.

    Samuelsson does not fit in

Sammuelsson is playing much better, although I am still pissed when they have a 3 on 2 with Hank and Hudler, and Sammy floats a backhander into the goalies glove while leading the rush. His mistakes are not as obvious as they used to be it seems, now that he is playing with Hank.

    Thoughts at the halfway mark

The Wings have played great so far in Larry Murphy's words. What more can we ask for as a fan, nothing. Babcok has kept the team hungry night in and night out. My ONLY concern in that some players might take some nights off on the second half of the season. It should not happen based on last years second half as Datsyuk picked up his game when Hank went down for 19 games. We added Rafalski who knows how to win championships, he has worked out amazingly. Great leadership and talent, this team has it all. Great game last night Ozzie, YOU ARE SICK! too bad the 4th line was on when Ozzie got beat on the wrap around, All Downey had to do it get it out and he whiffed, o well it is only a shut out, wins are all that matters.

    Samuelsson does not fit in

True Cheli does have more expirience, BUT they use Sammy because he has the right handed howetzer, although not accurate at all. I would like to see Kronwall and Lebda. Lebda can create a lot more than Sammy, much better vision. Did anyone understand how poor Sammy's givaway was against the Blues in his own zone. He did a little stick handling and then passed a weak backhand through the slot which was picked off and Hasek had to make a save. Now since Hank is back I want to see Franzen in Sammy's spot a lot more. Although that probably won't happen, but i will hope for it has Babs chews his 18th piece of gum tonight.

    1/2 GDT: Red Wings 4, Stars 1

Stars 2 vs Red Wings 3 SO/F Cleary (Lidstrom, Pavs) Zetterberg (Lidstrom, Pavs) PP Niskonen (Morrow) Zubov (Ribero, Niskonen) PP SO 1 Pavs GOAL! Zubov Goal Hank GOAL! Dal SAVE OZZY Huds GOAL ends the game!!!!!! Babs chews 18 peices of gum tonight. GO WINGS

Who should be the next Wings captain?

Hank wears the C in 3 years Pavs keeps the A and Fil gets the A

    Samuelsson does not fit in

I wrote the original post for this topic about 2 weeks ago. Since then though, Samuelsson has really made use of himself. He is still shooting alot but he is also skating great and now has a 6 game point streak going. He has stepped his game up on the second line while Z has been out. Good for him, I like what I am seeing more and more from him. Go Wings, Datsyuk is Datsick!

    Samuelsson does not fit in

Opie you are grouping everyone who posted against Samuelsson as though we all think alike? Only one guy said go get Kovalev, and one guy said go get Fedorov(a washed up player). Come on, you are trying to defend Sammy but with brutal stats even though you may think they are you 'great stats that you are fighting aginst Red Wings player bashers'. This post was created simply based on the way he has been playing this year. I am new to this forum and yet you are grouping us all as though we all bashed Williams, Lang, Lilja. I can't imagine you trying to defend Lang last year, that would be a losing batle. As for Sammy and Ryder. Ryder has been benched for multiple games this year because Coach Carbaneau is singly handedly ruining the team. The only way Ryder will break out his funk is to be given at least 2nd line minutes, not 4th line minutes like the last 2 games he has played. Definetly would be a good move to decrese Sammy's time on the ice. The fact that Ryder makes 3mil this season is a dumb comment because he would be gone next year if he doesn't effect the lineup. Sammy has never gone over 4 shots on goal in one game this year, right Opie? Well that is because those are 'Shots on Goal' not shots that are blocked and whiffed on. He must direct the puck towards the net 10 times a night (not a bad thing, Hank does it -but he does it in good situations) Sammy is told to shoot a lot, but if he would just keep his game simple and forecheck hard he would look a lot better on this team. The fact that Ryder has only 10 points this season is also irrelevant compared to sammy's 17 or whatever. Because Sammy averages 15-17 minutes a night with skilled players and powerplay time. Whereas Ryder is not put in the right situations to score on a poor team. Ryder would be much more useful than Sammy, but yeah why screw around with a winning formula right now. It would be nice to see Sundin show some interest in Detroit come deadline time, I am sure Holland could work something out.

    Samuelsson does not fit in

Well I am glad to see that my post has generate such a overwhelming agreement. We all think he does not fit in, but some of us think he is worth the money he is getting paid. Ryder would get traded for someone like Marleau and Bernier, and mix in Koivu. There is no way the legend Ken Holland could even get rid of Sammy for more than a late draft pick or AHL player. Who is 'Rex' anyway. One guy posted this here and I saw it a couple more times. Is it Hulder? Franzen? Kopecky? I am so confused with who Rex is. Ryder would be a great addition though, to fill in on the 2nd powerplay unit and then have lebda on it too. I kinda agree with you that he seems to be a defensive liability. But he brings a lot more than Downey ever will. Drake will be great coming down the playoff stretch. He had a great pass to Fil the other night against ST LU. I think though that he is getting too much ice time, and if Babs would give more to Hudler and Fil it would make Drake more useful.
