  4. Team fitness testing on Monday showed improvement on preseason evaluations that were, at that time, considered impressive. In goal, star netminder Miikka Kiprusoff has relief in house as Curtis Joseph has proven in the short time he's been a Flame that he's game-ready. However, as the team emerges from the All-Star break with visions of a Northwest Division title and a 100 point season, Flames general manager Darryl Sutter recognizes he has at least one missing piece. He needs a top-line centre. He needs a playmaker who can handle the heavy-lifting and help Jarome Iginla remain a scoring threat on every shift. Calgary's wish list will start with Peter Forsberg. Until the two-time Stanley Cup Champion declares otherwise, the Flames believe he's an option. It's an upgrade that requires only cap space, and the team has that. Mats Sundin's status will be carefully monitored as well. The Toronto Maple Leafs have yet to ask their captain to waive his no-trade clause and while some believe Sundin will decline if asked, the Flames are expected to be a player if given the opportunity. Sources say the Flames and Florida Panthers have already discussed Calgary's interest in Olli Jokinen, but the asking price is high - believed to be forward Alex Tanguay and a young player or a prospect. Forsberg, Sundin and Jokinen are longshots and may never be available or attainable. However, there is a sense the Flames see a lot of promise in this season, and while Feb. 26 may come and go without significant change, there is an appetite to swing for the fence with less than a month to go. Official: Selanne signs with Ducks

The Finnish winger and the Anaheim Ducks have agreed to terms on a contract for the balance of this season and Selanne has re-joined the team. "It took Teemu several months to determine if he had the passion and determination to return to the NHL, and we are thrilled to have him back," said Ducks Executive Vice President/General Manager Brian Burke in a statement. "This is a player who scored 48 goals last year and showed no signs of slowing down." Related Info * Power Rankings: Ducks are 5th * McKenzie's Blog: Time for serious business The right-winger appeared in all 82 of the Ducks' games last season, recording 48 goals, 94 points and 82 penalty minutes en route to their first Stanley Cup. The Helsinki, Finland native has played in 1,041 regular season games over his 14-year career, recording 540 goals, 1,135 points and 461 penalty minutes. The ten-time All-Star was originally drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the 1988 Entry Draft. In his first year with the club, the Finnish Flash set rookie records with 76 goals and 132 points. After four seasons in Winnipeg, Selanne was traded to Anaheim and played for four years with the Ducks before being dealt to the San Jose Sharks in 2001. After two seasons in San Jose, he was reunited with former Ducks teammate Paul Kariya when he signed with the Colorado Avalanche as a free agent. Selanne returned to the Ducks as an unrestricted free agent in 2005. He led the club in scoring in 2005-06, posting 40 goals and 90 points in 80 games. Selanne has played in four Winter Olympics with Finland, winning a silver medal in 2006 and a bronze medal in 1998. soruce: http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=228393&hubname=

    Blackhawks interested in Schneider?

Srouce: http://www.thefourthperiod.com/rumors.html Earlier in the season, the Chicago Blackhawks had been trying to acquire a powerplay specialist but came up empty The Blackhawks and Ducks appear to be involved in heavy negotiations over a possible trade involving defenseman Mathieu Schneider, TFP has learned. Trade talks between the Blackhawks and Anaheim Ducks appear to be on the bubble, as Chicago may not be willing to add Mathieu Schneider's salary to their payroll Just Found Out Devils Would Love To Have Schneider With the Ducks continuing their attempts to shed some salary, the New Jersey Devils appear to be interested in one of their players, reports the Orange County Register. According to the paper, the Devils have supposedly set their sights on veteran defenseman Mathieu Schneider. The Ducks are trying to dump some salary to not only fit Scott Niedermayer's deal under the cap for next season, but to try and make some room to re-sign Corey Perry, who will become a restricted free agent after this season. New Jersey has played extremely well of late. They lost last night, but that was the Devils' first regulation loss in their last 11 games. The Devils have just over $3 million in available cap space.
