I picked it up in the utterly hilarious Penguins Stopped Play, twas written by the bloke who came up with "Have I got news for you", and is one of the funniest, most moving books I have ever read. Yep, although when I'm on nights at least I can listen to them on internet radio. However, I'm on nights tonight, so I should be in bed right now getting a bit of sleep before I go in!

What depth up front? We haven't had any depth at forward all season, unless you call the likes of Hartigan and Ellis "depth". Sucks for Kopecky though, his play has improved of late.

Yeah, but how well can he grip the stick? How well can he pass the puck? How well can he shoot? How will he react when his hands get slashed? (and expect him to take a lot of subtle whacks on the hands)

me too Worried about Kopecky though - he's been playing OK lately Plus having a lot of players coming back from injury - as we know from playoffs past, its very hard to come back and get straight up to playoff speed, especially if you're not coming back 100% as Drapes, Stuart and Homer undoubetdly won't

Fixed Personally, I hope we lose again next game. I've always said I want us to go into the playoffs on a losing streak (remember 02?). Look how well we've done when we coast into the playoffs on a 72 game winning streak..... A wings losing streak usually means that a long winning streak is round the corner

You guys are all forgetting that Holland tried to sign Stuart last summer, and offered big money too, but he wanted to play on the west coast where his wife is from. That and the *length* of any contract are likely to be the biggest problems in trying to re-sign him. We can sign him for $4M in 08-09 no probs, but after that....... And are you prepared to pay $3-4M for a #4 D-man, no matter how good?

Meh, it was the same when games where on ESPN had to have the Flyers every single game And if you think THAT is bad, imagine if, like over here, you only got 1 free-to-air hockey game a week, on a Wednesday night. Then imagine if EVERY SINGLE WEEK the game featured the Chicago Blackhawks, cos that's what us poor UK hockey fans have had to endure this season. Go check the schedule, if Chicago were playing on a Wednesday, then they were on Channel5. And Chicago have played about 80% of the Wednesdays this season. Naturally the only time they weren't shown on a Wednesday was when they were playing the wings. The rare occasions that it wasn't the Blackhawks we got to see such great teams as the BJs (repeatedly), LA, Phoenix, Tampa Bay, Atlanta......

Yeah, but its a prediction based on complete and utter falsehoods. Too old - youngest wings team in years? Scoring not balanced - 3rd in league in goals? How many 20 goal scorers? 7? Beat up on Central - uh, no.

By my maths the Wings are going to have 14 forwards if everyone is fit - not including stiffs like Hartigan. That means 2 spare forwards, Hudler is almost certain to be one of them, I think Babs wants Mac and Downey to fight for the last spot .

Without ever having been there during the playoffs, I think that is a product of the situation. I remember watching the 02 finals and when Shanny put that empty netter home my TV speakers couldn't cope with the noise. I'm pretty sure if we dispose of Anaheim in this years WCF that the Joe will be just as loud. But great vid, and that shot of Roy on his knees when Feds scored......priceless

Well, I still want us to play Colorado in the 1st round, but that is starting to look unlikely And I want us on a little losing streak before the playoffs the start, but I also want Datsyuk to get 100 points on the season...... Still, gotta love those weekend Matinees - and I'm even at home today!

True - but as others have said, they will still be a playoff team. People were predicting the imminent demise of the Wings 5 years ago - those of us who knew what we were doing knew that Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Kronwall were waiting in the wings to take over. As Holland himself has pointed out, the Wings are consitently good for the same reason the Patriots and Colts are consistently good - they draft well in the lower rounds, more specifically drafting players that fit their system (Holland - "we draft skill", hence why this "skinny little 17 year old kid that nobody could get the puck off" gets picked up in the 7th round and becomes a 40 goal scorer with an A which will one day be a C - They pay to keep their top players (Lidstrom, Dats) - They don't overpay for their mid-range players (are you listening Matt Millen?) and are prepared to let them walk if they get offered stupid money - They have good scouting (see point 1, and the one below) - They are able to pick up other teams cast-offs that they think are able to do a job for them within their system (check out how many undrafted FAs are starters on the Colts) - Oh, and we have good coaching As long as we have Holland, Nill, Illitch and Babock we wil be competetive.
