Afternoon shift + internet radio for teh win! Wings finish off 5 game home stand with 5th win
-
Well, I thought it was deliberate before, but that new video is beyond doubt. Skate gets tangled.....tries to free it......STOMP Then the guilty look on his face afterwards, the "I just got away with one, I hope nobody notices" If the league had even an ounce of integrity they should ban him for the rest of the season plus playoffs (severity of incident, 9th suspension for Pronger, 30 game precedent for Simon).
-
As long as its not a ridiculous difference (in which case the NHLPA might have something to say) I don't see why not. I could see a team like Toronto trying to offload some of their $$$ veterans on Detroit if they offer him more than we can afford.
-
Like I said in that thread, Maltby WAS the man. That vid just showed that chippiness that is no longer in his play. Bumping players after the whistle, standing there taking the facewash trying to draw a penalty, jawing away, running players over. He just isn't the (hated around the league) agitator that he once was. But yeah, great vid. The only people who wouldn't enjoy watching that are Avs fans

Not only was it a gentle wrist shot, as the buzzer went, it was also from the blue line, and it missed the net! Pronger then showed us all what a tough guy he was by waiting till Handzus was tied up by the refs along the boards before dropping the gloves and laying into a defenceless Handzus. Another big name on Pronger's fight card along with Dan Cleary and Jiri Slegr As for the stomp....what a joke. So obvious. If it wasn't for Simon, the NHL would probly have given him (another) 1 game suspension. But because of Simon, if they found him guilty it would have had to be a similar long suspension, which left them with only 1 course of action - not guilty!

I thought this just the other day b) Tells you everything about Cleary when you see the number of comments in this thread alongthe lines of "you deserve that $14M Danny". How often do you hear that about a pro-sportman? Interesting to see the no-trade clause in there as well....
-
well that 3rd period was more nervous than it should have been. But the streak continues

Warming up for the playoffs?

My employers don't make $5 Billion profit a year by letting us take night shifts off I'll be flitting between the office and the lab all night. Missed the Malts goal (on fire!), heard the Hawks goal
-
Isn't it just? Night shift + internet radio =
-
Excellent deal for both sides. Cleary gets the long-term financial security he deserves, Detroit gets their 3rd best forward signed for the next 5 seasons at a decent price. Looking forward to his return to the line-up

Since when did you have to be a defensive forward to win the Selke? Sergei Fedorov, Steve Yzerman, Ron Francis....need I go on? Not checked the stat lately, but he was there last time I looked. From memory he was 7th last year. EDIT: Just checked NHL.com, Datsyuk is 20th @ 54.5%, but there's no filter on min number of face-offs that I can see, and there's a few guys ahead of him on the list who I imagine don't have that many - Jamal Meyers? David Steckel? As for the number of face-offs he takes - the wings are *real* good on face-offs, possibly the best in the league, with Zetterberg (4th) and Draper (2nd) as well. Pavel has tended to play LW when he's out there with Z, so naturally his share of the face-offs will be slightly less. Isn't that essentially the same thing? He is there to outplay the other sides top line - which his plus/minus, and the wings record, shows that he does more often than not. I agree.
-
Except Babcock likes to match him up against the oppositions top line (as a previous poster pointed out). Yes, the Selke is a hard award to judge, but when you lead all forwards in plus/minus, lead all forwards in takeaways, are top 10 in face-offs, when your team allows the fewest shots and the fewest goals, when you lead that team in blocked shots by a forward, and you're the number one centre routinely matched against the opponents #1 line.... I mean seriously guys, what more does Pavel have to do?
-
If by "you guys", you mean the rest of the world, then yes. Its also the proper name for it according to IUPAC, and they decide these things The things a chemistry degree teaches you eh?
-
*shrugs* Same reason they have different imperial measurements, don't put a u in colour, call aluminium aluminum, spell Sulphur with an F etc etc......superpowers tend to do whatever the hell they like. In other news, 4-0!
-
Brilliant, thanks for that Bonus is that the quality is crystal clear - MUCH better than via NHL.com As for the Wings, good job they took advantage of all those PPs, you gotta know they're going to be fighting soft make up calls the next 40 minutes.
-
1) Go Franzenstein! 2) No Detroit feed on NHL Radio AGAIN!!!!!!!! FFS, this is the 3rd straight game that I've had to listen to the opposition radio feed!
-
You gotta think its gunna happen at some point - especially with the attendances the last 2 years (yes, I know - ticket prices, poor economy yadda yadda yadda). Fact is, new arenas boost attendance, and revenue soars due to executive boxes and the like. And the name? Little Caesars Arena anyone?

Having Chelios is like having an assistant coach on the ice. There is a reason why our young defencemen have always been paired with him - and they always go to great lengths to praise Chelli for how much he helped them in their early days. With Meech/Quincey/Ericson/Kindl around, I would love to see Cheli hang around for another couple of seasons to help bring them along. Stuart will want to go back to California and I doubt we will be able to afford him. Lilja might be allowed to walk, I think he wants more than Kenny is willing to pay ie more than he is worth!
-
Exactly. How was Scotty Bowmans career ended in Junior? By an opponent giving him a 2-handed tomahawk on the top of his head on a breakaway. Rocket Richard attacking a linesman? The Philly team of the 70s?
-
Because he's not the player he was? He doesn't agitate anything like he used to and he scores once in a blue moon? Yeah, he's cheap and he kills penalties but that's about it. I can live without the lack of points due to his age, but he needs to be getting under opponents skin a hell of a lot more than he has the last few years.
-
Sorry, totally disagree. In all sports there are players who are injury-prone and players who seem to never get injured. Kronwall is one of the former. Fact. Personally I wonder how well he looks after himself off the ice - lots of references in interviews to eating McDonalds and stuff. A lot of soccer players who are injury prone tend to be big boozers. Having said that, don't get me wrong, I love Kronner. Much of his poor play over the years has been down to all those injuries and being unable to play a lot, get in his stride and develop his confidence. And of course it helps him playing top-line minutes right now as well.

Who was it who said after the SJ game that playing well and losing means you're about to come out of a slump? Good call. Wings go back for 5 straight home games. Nick and Rafa coming back.....I smell another wings winning streak. At last

Well, hello secondary scoring Where have you been lately?
