Exactly! Come playoff time do you want a skilled, soft 10 goal scorer (Samuelsson) or a not-so-skilled, physical, gritty, 10 goal scorer (insert a dozen names)?

Zetterberg signing for $7M *IS* a home team discount. He is worth $8m, at least, on the open market. 7 years $54M, would be a fair deal to me. $7M the first 3 years (more than Dats, less than Nick - as it should be), then $8M for 4 years after Nick's extension runs out, making him the highest paid player on the team. As for the cap, as I understand it, Hasek's bonuses count against the cap. So his cap figure is more like $4M than $2M. No way he'll be back next year so that gives us a bit more wriggle room. I had Flip down as a Jere Lehtinen type player, solid 2 way guy with 20-25 goals a year. If he keeps this up he be even more. Certainly his value is soaring right now. Of course, he could just be a streaky player..... Question: Wings that have left via Free Agency that the wings wanted to keep AND got more money elsewhere. Shanny and Feds don't count as they were offered matching contracts by Detroit, but wanted out for personal reasons. Point being, the only Redwings that leave are the ones Kenny don't want

I seriously doubt the Sharks would give us anything more than a bag of pucks. The road to the Stanley Cup Finals goes through Detroit and everyone in the West knows it.

I'm feeling nervous about this game - back to back, on the road, half decent opponent, banged up team, Hasek in goal.......then again I felt nervous about the game in Minnesota and look what happened there

Ding-Ding! We have a winner!

Great news - of course would love to know how much for, but you gotta know that this needed to be done before we could resign Hank in the summer. Wonder if 2010 will be his last year?

Much as I would like to see #91 back in Detroit, he isn't what we need. I want to see a more physical player added to that 2nd line, and I fear what we would have to give the BJs for him. Having said that, we can easily fit him under the cap if he comes at the deadline, and his playoff record is second to none. 160pts in 160 games is not to be sniffed at.

I'm less concerned about him missing tonight than I am about this being a potentially chronic back problem that will dog his career. Once a sportsman gets a bad back, it tends to stay with them the rest of their playing days. I do wonder if this will play into his contract negotiations - would you offer a 7, 8 year deal to a guy with a history of back problems? We're running away with the conference, so no need to rush him back, let him rest up and get it fully sorted.

Babcock would soon sort that out since he never ceases to bang the "shoot the puck" drum. Everyone ******* and whines about Sammy and his shooting, but he's only doing what Babcock tells every player. But yeah, Sammy has average skillswith no other qualities. I would much rather have an average player with other benefits such as toughness, grit, sandpaper - the kind of qualities we will need in the playoffs.

Big test for the Wings tonight - injuries, tough road game etc Given Lemaire's complaints about Dom the last game I fully expect the Wild to take a run at him at some point. On nights tonight so I get to listen on NHL radio

Why would Chicago want Schneider? They lead the league in goals from d-men. And his addition would just take ice-time away from their core youngsters who need to play big minutes to continue their development.

Well, as the guy who put the question to Bucci (hey ma, I'm on ESPN!) I figured its about time I registered and posted here. As others have pointed out, Jovo is a no-go because of his long-term big money contract. Foote is affordable. Anyone know Blake's contract ($/yrs)? TBH I think we should go for more of a lesser known name as we wouldn't have to give up as much, and we're not actually looking for a top-pair defenceman. As for forwards, Torres is someone I thought we should try to pick up ever since they dumped us out of the playoffs. Malone, yeah he teases Pittsburgh with his size and skill (like so many players), who knows maybe he could be (yet another) player who finds himself right at home in Detroit?....but I don't see the Pens swapping him for Hudler - they need quality defencemen and goaltending, not more skilled forwards and the wings don't have either of the former to spare. Obviously Samuelson is the #1 expendable, if we can't swap him for someone physical we could maybe send him somewhere else for a 2nd or 3rd that we can add to the trade war-chest. Hudler....Babcock *still* doesn't seem to like him much, no matter how many points he puts up. From the moment he made the roster he has been Babcocks scapegoat. Maybe Babcock feels he needs to ride him hard, or maybe he's just Mike Gartner to Mike Keenan with the Rangers...... Either way, I get the impression that Babs wouldn't be sorry to see him gone, regardless of what Holland thinks. Filpulla is ringfenced IMO.
