Osgood sucked, Macdonald was meh 11-12 Howard was great, Conklin sucked and had to be bailed out by Macdonald 12-13 Howard was great, Gustavson was either injured or sucking.

Of course, they could try waiving Sammy and someone might actually pick him up. Then we lose 1 player off the roster AND we lose his cap hit. At least worth a try.

I really have mixed feelings over this. On the one hand, his symptoms sound horrible. On the other, I wonder if he's sat at home now thinking "I wish I never smashed Holmstrom's head into the glass. I wish I never stomped on Kesler"? The NHL is unquestionably a safer place for Pronger's retirement. He was a great player, second only to Lidstrom in his generation. He was also a dirty, cowardly, cheap shotting, spot picking bully who could and should have been called for cross-checking on every shift of his career. A "tough guy" whose fight card is topped by Dan Cleary and Michael Handzus. As for cap circumvention, its already cap circumvention even without the whole "retired by not retired". The guy is signed till he's 43, how is that different to the original Kovy deal?

A tragic yet relevant news story from yesterday. Maria De Villota, a former reserve driver for Formula 1 team Marussia died aged just 33 yesterday. She suffered severe head injuries during a crash in testing last summer, went to bed on Thursday night complaining of severe headaches and died in the early hours of Friday. We've already got 3 forwards out injured and they can't get a game. So currently, we'd need 5 forwards injured before Babcock would be forced to play both of them. Do we really want 5 forwards injured? Because you bet they won't be Cleary, Sammy, Emmerton, Bertuzzi and Eaves. Some of them are going to be forwards that we actually like and want on the team.

Unrestricted Free Agents are overpaid period. Look around the league at the contracts that were handed out this summer. I've said it before, UFA's are as overpaid as RFA's are underpaid, its just the way the economic system works in the NHL.
