I'm not down on this kid at all, but lets wait till he's at least played in the NHL before we decide if he's a good pick or not, eh? -

What I'm afraid of is that the only thing he'll learn in junior is bad habits. When success comes this easy its becomes very tempting to take short-cuts. Sure, his body will continue to develop, but what about his skills, his mental attitude, his off-ice preparation? To take his game to the next level he needs to be playing against men IMO, but since he's not AHL eligable, and he's not good enough for the NHL yet, it is what it is. -
That's less a function of being "intimidated", more a function of our post-Lidstrom/Rafalski defence being unable to handle the puck under pressure. Quincey, Lashoff and especially Smith were forechecked relentlessly in the playoffs because they kept making mistakes when pressured.

This is what I was afraid would happen. He's too good for Junior hockey now. Hopefully they've got him playing in all situations - PK, defending leads - to help round out his game. -
What was interesting was reading the Toronto GDT after the first game, and all their fans were saying they picked the wrong line-up. "Dressing fighters against the Wings is a waste of a spot" was a common refrain. Still - Abdelkader, Bertuzzi, Ericsson, Smith. Tootoo. We got enough guys that can look after themselves.

Jurco, Jarnok, Oullet and Sproul have all been re-assigned to GR. -
Personally, I'm just hoping that being in the East, Pavel will get some of the recognition he deserves - both from fans and the media. The post-season awards seem to have become even more east-centric the last few years, and I'm sick of hearing fans of Eastern teams yapping on about how defence and two-way play are over-rated and how they'd take Ovechkins 100 points and no defence over Pavel's 80 points and Selke level defence.

Its not total BS - its the nations capital, they haven't had a Winter Classic yet, and they have one of the games biggest stars. When its announced that its against the Pens, then it'll be total BS.

According to reports, they did let the kids know. This was a prospect development camp, not a pre-season were guys are fighting for roster spots. The same reports said the coaches let Nephtuzzi know he was in the wrong. -
One of my favourite ever WIngs fights. In other news - can our non-fighters please stop fighting? Historically they've done a great job getting themselves injured in fights. Kopecky, now Jensen and Kindl. Even Lilja had his career effectively ended because Babcock goaded him into becoming a fighter.

As I've said many times, I'm quite happy with Abs playing on the top line. His skating, forechecking, hitting, and driving to the net created a lot of opportunities for Z and Pav last year that weren't always rewarded on the score sheet. Case in point last night, he's screening the goalie on Almquist's goal, but doesn't get a point. Sure, he doesn't have Bertuzzi's hands, but if he did he'd be a premier NHL power forward.

I think its worth pointing out that Cleary and Abdelkader provided the screens on Almquist's goals, even if neither of them got a point for it.

I imagine he'll be old and slow and injured for much of the regular season, and the object of much ire on LGW. Then the playoffs will come and he'll be one of our best players. Again.

OK thanks. Sucks for Mantha, he's too good for the OHL, feels like he's wasting a year of his development playing there again.

What's the deal with Mantha being ineligable for the AHL this season? I keep reading in places that he can only play in the OHL or NHL in 2013-14, but I've not read anywhere why
