    Funny Homer article

Wow, only the 6th Wing to play 1000 games? Impressive achievement for a guy who can't skate, can't stickhandle and can't shoot An absolute warrior and a unique player.

    Red Wings Alumni lineup

When was the last time Yzerman skated? I remember a quote from him when he was in the WIngs front office and he said he hadn't put on a pair of skates once since his retirement. Don't forget that his knee was completely and utterly ****ed by the time he retired. Not to mention he'd be totally embaressed by the heros welcome he'd get. Think of that applause that Gordie got when he played in the ASG at the Joe, thats the kind of thing that Stevies nightmares are made of

Does making a horrific defensive zone turnover that leads directly to a goal count? EDIT: Tongue-in-cheek doesn't work on this board, eh?

    Revenge

I don't want the Wings to get revenge on anyone, I want them to win the Cup for its own sake.
  8. Hehe, you North Americans think thats bad, you should try getting your head round cricket - a game that can last 5 days and still end in a draw And you can have a 5 or 6 game series that also ends in a draw. And yet both sets of players and both sets of fans are happy with that The SO is a by-product of the North American mentality which is unable/unwilling to accept a game without a winner. It also produces drama and allows the really high end players to showcase their talents, and gives the NHL a slightly better chance of making Sportscentre instead of yet another buzzer-beater from mid-court in the Nebraska Valley State vs Rhode Island Tech ballgame. The loser point has 2 benefits - it artificially compresses the standings which keeps Bettman and the Networks happy, as well as prolonging the regular season of teams just outside the playofffs. It also produces a more exciting OT as both teams go for it. I love 4on4 OT, its like 80s hockey as both teams chase the W, and I'd be very happy to see it go to 10 minutes before the SO.

    Future retired numbers

See, this line of reasoning annoys me because there is always a question over whether it should be there. I can show you posts by people on this website who think Lidstrom doesn't deserve to have his number retired. Seriously. So by your logic, he doesn't deserve to have his number retired. For me Lidstrom obviously. I think Datsyuk will eventually because he is such an other-worldly talent with an already impressive resume. RIght now Zetterberg won't, as he hasn't really kicked on since 2008. Osgood, Shanahan, Fedorov, Holmstrom and Draper - I've said this before, in 10 or 20 years when the Wings suck, and I mean really suck, and we're all nostalgic and misty-eyed about the good old days, some if not all of them will have their numbers retired. Osgood would already if he had won game 7/not been so injury prone at the end/not sucked so much at the end. Fedorov would be a lock by any other standard apart from the manner of his leaving.
  14. Because the man was just a beast. The only skater to turn up for all 7 games of the San Jose series, and an absolute joy to watch. 11 games, 15 points, +10. He deserved better, and there's a fair few players on this team owe him an apology. Edit: Oh yeah, and I forgot, played with a wrist so badly injured he couldn't take face-offs

    Dreger's mailbag

OK, since you know everything about everything, what exactly should Ken Holland do at the deadline? Or do you want us to stand pat at the deadline and get beaten (again) by a team whose players are just as fast, just as skilled, and just as hardworking, but 2-3 inches taller and 10-20lbs heavier?

    Lidstrom on NHL 36!

Friend of mine took it up in his mid-30s, took him a while before his skating was good enough to play, but he loves it. Get yourself down your local rink, get yourself enrolled in some skating classes and find yourself a team that plays for fun - shouldn't be a problem in London, even here in little old Grimsby we have 2 teams, 1 serious and 1 not serious.

    Dreger's mailbag

If all we did at the deadline was Morrow and Moen, I would be delighted. Moen is a pending UFA so could be had for a middling pick, and is exactly what we need on the bottom 6. Big, can play, can drop the gloves. Was great for the Ducks during their cup run.

Calgary trades Brendan Morrison to the Hawks

Never thought that much to him when he was in his prime, just the guy who passed the puck to Nasland and Bertuzzi. I don't think he's the answer to the Hawks lack of a #2 centre.

Who Could be Dealt at the Deadline?

History shows that there are plenty of stupid GMs out there who will trade star players for not a whole lot. What did Hossa go for? A half decent player, a bit-part player, a prospect who isn't panning out and a bad 1st round pick. What did Roy go for? Thibault, Rucinsky and Kovalenko. Yashin for Chara and Spezza. All hockey fans massively over-rate their own prospects, and tend to under-rate their own movable pieces (or massively over-rate them in a few cases). Wings fans hate on Ericsson for his bone-headedness, other GMs and fans see his size, see he comes from the Wings puck moving system and like the look of him. And we WILL need to move roster players, even bit part players, simply to make room on the roster for any new arrivals. Franzen and/or Filpulla if part of a package for a legit top player. Hudler, Abdelkader, Miller, Eaves, Emmerton, Mursak are all replacable. Stuart if part of a package, most probably with Anaheim Ericcson, Kindl, Commodore are all replacable. Any prospect not named Smith or Nyquist.

    Stars' Brenden Morrow available?

We only have 2 really good prospects, and a lot of middling ones. Its precisely because of the large number of prospects, and large amount of cap space we have, that enables us to be a player at this years deadline. We can afford to lose a pick or two and a Tartar or Ferraro or two this year.
  22. Nev

    Stars' Brenden Morrow available?

Always liked him, especially in the playoffs. As others have said, a younger, better, Dallas Drake.

Rank the Hate between the Canadian NHL Teams

Yeah, it should have been a penalty, but if anyone deserved it, its was that dirty SOB Tucker. Its not like Tucker, Domi and Roberts never did anything like that in Leafs jerseys...

What happened to Zetterberg's scoring touch?

When one of your linemates is heading for a career high, and you're heading for a career low, its clear something isn't right. I'm in with the cumulative injuries crowd.
