I don't see much contradiction there. He wants what most of us want - a McCarty/LaPointe/Drake type player who is good enough to hold down a roster spot even without fighting. Not a Downey/May/Norton who isn't.

Thing is, that #1 seed is so crucial to avoid what will be a brutal first round 4-5 matchup. Two from DET/CHI/STL/NSH will be going toe-to-toe.

Its harsh, cos Z barely touches him and it results in a freak injury, but nevertheless that contact (however minimal) caused him to lose his balance.

If hockey was invented tomorrow, everyone would wear face cages, all of the time. The historical macho BS that affects the game causes easily preventable injuries like this to occur. I tell you one thing, I bet he never goes out for warm up without his helmet again. Just like Lidstrom, Draper, Yzerman and co never went without a visor after their injuries.....

As fun as chasing patty was, for me the highlight was game 6 in Colorado when we won 2-0. That was as good a performance as I have ever seen from a Redwings team. On the road, facing elimination, against your bitterest rivals, all the pressure of "greatest team ever assembled with 9* future HOFers", they came out and forechecked the living shiznit out of the Avs. * Now 10, thanks to a certain P.Datsyuk Tells you how good that team was that he and Brett Hull were on the 4th line.

I was thinking about this earlier watching some old youtube vids of young Pavel when he had Hull on his wing, and thinking what would todays Pavel do with an elite goalscorer, one who could find space and had the shot to use it? Then I got to thinking of Datsyuk's breakout year, when he had a slow, aging Shanahan on his wing, who with Pavel's help had "the quietest 40 goal season in NHL history". A top 6 goalscorer and a bottom 6 grinder isn't too much to ask is it?

1) The game will be played on the afternoon of my daughters 5th birthday. "Sorry sweetheart, daddys got to watch a hockey game". Maybe I should prime Mrs Nev early not to arrange a birthday party for then.... 2) Can you imagine the team the Wings can put out for the Alumni game? Shanny-Stevie-Feds. Robitaille-Larionov-Holmstrom? - McCarty, Draper, Maltby. We'll just be icing the '02 roster, hopefully minus Lidstrom

As I said before, I will be disapointed if we don't make a move * Away form not withstanding, this is the best we've played in the regular season since '07-08. Defensively strong, great goaltending * Possibly Lidstroms last season - we owe it to him to give him every chance to go out on a high * Cap space There are areas this team could improve itself - top line goalscorer, bigger/tougher depth players.

I mean, seriously guys, are we taking our under-sized, under-weight, aenemic, bow-legged, pidgeon-toed superfreak for granted these days? Played with one winger the entire game and was still the best player on the ice.

Well, I gotta say, that was a great game with each team taking turns dominating. Fact is, we are two very closely matched teams, and if we meet in the playoffs it will be a helluva series (and closer than 2009 when the Hawks weren't quite ready). Datsyuk was pure awesome all over the ice. James Tiberius Howard is the man. Even Franzen showed up in OT.
