I lack the mad photoshopz skillz, but how about Bettmans face on this? I wanted a Rage Against The Machine image for Know Your Enemy, but I couldn't find anything suitable with a quick google images search.

Goaltending and defence are just the same as the regular season. I don't think I saw a shot hit Howard and stick. It was either a giant rebound or a goal. And bitching about the refs is just deflecting from the fact we can't penalty kill worth a damn, Having said that, there were some shifts that game where Datsyuk looked like he was playing against schoolkids

Anyone read Franzen's comments after the game? Basically admitting that he was mailing it in during the regular season. Dats looked awesome

You can't look past the 2002 WCF with Colorado. How many HOFs were on the ice in that series? Game 6 was the best road game I have ever seen us play.

Thats a great stat, but I'm not concerned about their play in April as am about their play from December to April. This isn't us coasting into the playoffs, this is how we've played for 3/4 of the season.

To be fair, you are right, I did Chemistry.

Glad I'm not the only one to notice this. Yep, its like Return of the King won a bazillion Oscars, not because it was so much better than the other 2, but because the academy went "holy crap, this trilogy is unprecedented in what its achieved." If Lidstrom does win it, consider it a payback for all the years in the 90s when he was just as brilliant but everyone had yet to appreciate his quiet, unassuming brilliance.

Give the guy a break, its not like he's in here trolling. If I were in his shoes I'd find it pretty hard not to gloat.

What chance he competes for a roster spot next season? I know we like to over-season our youngsters, But you can't help thinking he can take a 3rd pairing spot from Ericsson/Kindl right now.

Thankyou so much for cheering up a depressed Redwings fan This

This was a defensive performance 3 years in the making. 2009 we got bailed out by our powerhouse offence night after night. 2010 we blamed it on injuries. This season has got progressively worse defence wise. The continuous mistakes, the lack of hustle, intesity and willingness to sacrifice from everyone, forwards to defence, Lidstrom to Ericsson, coupled with goaltending that oscilates between average and mediocre have all built up to this. This is not an overnight phenomena, and I don't see it being fixed overnight on the day the playoff start.

Because when players have been retired a few years, they automatically become better than they actually were in peoples minds, its true of all sports. In 10 years time the memory of Perrault and Nilson will have faded but people will go "remember that Datsyuk? Man he could stickhandle...." Its an interesting list, but of course you have to define "skilled". Jagr's skill was accentuated by being 5 inches and 60 pounds bigger than Datsyuk. Bure's by being able to still stickhandle whilst skating 200 mph etc I've said this on here before, but I remember on the old Thunderpuck forums, when he was in New York, even with a glass body and a brain made of pea soup, Rangers fans used to absolutely gush over his hands.

How would a deflected Lidstrom slap-shot in his face affect his vision? Its alright saying its personal choice, but at the risk of coming over all nanny-state, sometimes people need to be protected from themselves. I remember the same arguments being presented by people 30 years ago when the wearing of seatbelts was made mandatory in this country.

+1 for the old skool pic

Add Murray to the list with Draper, Clearly, Lidstrom and Yzerman of players who decided to wear facial protection AFTER sustaining serious facial injuries. He's right, hockey players ARE idiots, there's so much macho BS in hockey around the wearing of visors, that only soft euros, frenchies and ******* wear them. The Don Cherry mindset. As someone who is required to wear eye protection all day as part of his job, I find the attitude baffling.

No, but the problem comes when an oppenent decides to start pummeling one of our players, knowing that there is no-one on our team who will pummel him back. Anyway, Zetterberg has said in the past that he is in favour of rescinding the instigator rule.
-
What Shoreline said. It makes me laugh how suddenly when Nick is a minus that the +/- stat becomes worthless, when the previous 20 years its been used to trumpet Lidstrom's greatness. Team defence and shoddy goaltending have all factored into the large numbers of goals against, but I defy any to say this hasn't been Lidstrom's worst season defensively. Its like he's made more mistakes this season than the previous 19 put together.

This "not back till playoffs" worries me. It implies that he won't be injury free come the playoffs but will play anyway, because its "the playoffs"
