The Caps jersey is 70s/80s retro and cool, The Pens jersey is just.......hideous. A total monstrosity. You know what it reminds me of? You know that episode of The Simpsons where Homer gets to design the perfect car.....? They shoulda gone with the early 90s diamond penguin uniform, Mario, Jaromir, 2 cups etc.

Thing is, as has been repeatedly shown, going to a video replay doesn't exclude the monumental possibility of still giving the wrong call. cf May's disallowed goal vs Dallas, Hossa's disallowed goal v Anaheim + Ott's shootout winner in Dallas. And countless disallowed Holmstron goals. And all 3 times the NHL/refs came out with excuses that were somewhere between bulls*** and lies. So what good would a coaches challenge do?
-
Thats truly one of the worst non-calls I've ever seen. That was like an OT opening up a hole for the RB to dash through.

If you go to the Freeps website, they've got 3 sets of extracts there. http://www.freep.com/article/20101024/SPORTS05/10240598/1355/Bob-Probert-I-always-seemed-to-take-it-to-the-next-level-you-know-what-I-mean? Quite frankly, I'm disapointed with what I've read. Very similar to the autobiography of another high-profile sporting legend that I read (George Best ). Full of excuses and self-justification for his destructive, selfish behaviour. I know thats going to be very unpopular and I'm going to be flamed to hell and back for it because he's such a hero to many on here, and a tragically dead hero at that, but there it is. He comes across as totally unapologetic for his off-ice behaviour, and clearly bore chips on his shoulder right to the end towards Demers & the players who despaired at his lack of proffesionalism. I mean, how dare his team-mates get upset that he was out drinking & clubbing during the '89 conference finals.... OK folks, flame away.

Wow. I believe that goes under the "freak injury" category. And yep, it was Meech who pinned him to the boards whilst Smith was clearing the puck.

Perhaps still a chance for Lidstrom to win another Norris?

This. Was going to start a topic like this myself, but didn't want to get abused for jinxing it. -
Y'know, I wonder if its not that you don't need a Roy or a Hasek, its that there just aren't any All-World goaltenders around these days. A lot of good goalies, a lot of goalies who get hot for a season or two, but is there one goalie who's been consistently great since the lockout? A goalie who you were scared of facing in the playoffs year after year like Roy + Belfour + Hasek + Brodeur back in the day.

Draper might need surgery; Johan Franzen practices

About the only thing good about our stupid schedule right now is it gives us chance to get players healthy. I mean back to back 4 day breaks? In October? -
Yep. And then like Cleary and Draper and Lidstrom, that player will probably start wearing a visor too.........

You are kidding, right? Every Saturday night, for the last 15-20 years, European players have had their toughness, desire & heart questioned on Canadian national TV, and it gets lapped up by a large portion of hockey fans. I remember during the 97 finals, LeClair had hold of Fedorov during a scrum along the boards. The effects mike picked up "******* commie bastard" clear as a whistle. Indeed. Didn't someone famous once say he wanted his children to grow up in a world they are judged not by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character?

After 2 seconds of the puck leaving your blade you shouldn't be getting wiped out from the side.
-
Why? Do white fans lose intrest in the NFL or NBA because most of the players are black? I couldn't give a damn about how "diverse" my team is. I don't care if your skin is black, yellow, red, green, blue or brown. I only care about what you can do for my team.
-
No he isn't in his prime anymore, thats why he's on the 3rd line.... And our 3rd line is not being used as a shutdown line, its being used as a depth scoring line. Now if you want to criticise them for not providing that yet (1 goal in 4 games?) then fair enough. But at least wait more than 4 games to do so.

That's right, Draper deserved it because he was "yapping"

Nice find, tried to go 5-hole and just didn't get enough on it. I recorded that game on my VCR, even set to LP it ran out before Larionov scored the winner!
-
The other reason I'm delighted about this is that for a year or two I've worried that Mike would leave here - because his contract ran out, his style got old, whatever - and he would end up going to a talented but underachieving team (think Washington Capitals) and put them over the top. Teach them how to win like he taught us to win. That fear is now gone

Oh I agree, IIRC they actually posted near identical stats that season. Hasek played like the multiple Vezina winner that he was, and Osgood played like the All-Star starter that he was. Goaltending in Detroit eh?

The last couple of years made me sad, seeing so much hatred directed towards Maltby by Wings fans on these boards....how quickly they forget. Hopefully everyone will just remember the good times now. Thanks for all the great memories Kirk :champs: :champs:

This thread is pure unadulterated win. Question: When is he eligable for the HOF? Because he is surely going there. More surely than he will ever win a Jack Adams
-
I see you joined after the Great Hasek/Osgood War of 2008....

Time to keep the pedal to the metal - we're not just after 2 points tonight, the start to this season is meant to send a message. Wings are back *******.
-
Apart from his skating thats probably an accurate assesment. And a lot of folks are forgetting how well he was playing before his broken wrist. For me Flip has always had 2 problems holding him back, 1) Consistency - he's a very streaky player. The streaks need to be longer and the slumps shorter. 2) Decision with the puck in the offensive zone - he doesn't shoot when he should and will always look to pass first.

3 words. Eat it *******!
