Well, we got a point we barely deserved after getting out-played and out-skated for the first 50 minutes. I was going to add out-battled, but there were no battles because the pens always had a man open as we chased them round the ice. We just looked so slow. As for the shootout - we just generally suck, but Williams ahead of Bert? I fear it will be our OT/shootout record that will cause us to miss the playoffs by a point or 2.

Difference was, only the most homerish of fanboys thought we had a serious chance of re-signing Hossa. Bert wanted to stay in '07 but the stupid 2 year, $8M contract Burke threw at him was irresistable. I'm pretty confident that we'll be able to sign him for 2 year $3-4M contract I've liked what I've seen of him this year. He looks leaner, he's skating well, and he still has the hands, if not quite the snarl, that he used to have. For $1.5M you really can't complain.

Yes he did. After Sykora scored that heartbreaker in Game 5, at the Joe Babs said as soon as the puck was on his stick, he knew the game was over. I wouldn't be surprised to see us pick him up. He's only $1.6M and we're dead last in the west in scoring. How often have we bemoaned the lack of a sniper on Datsyuks wing? If he's still a bum, well, we can just waive him again, right?

This is what I think Babs is doing. Trying to get Ozzie so mad he goes out there with an "I'll show that mother***er" attitude. That, and punishing him for saying he knew more about goaltending than Babcock.

These are the kind of games where LGW is in fear but Detroit pulls a performance out of their asses. We deserved 2 points on Sunday, lets get them tonight.

Oh, and just to add, I said on p.2 that the Joe needed to be our 6th skater today - and they were. The place was really rocking. The speakers on my PC have a "3D" button - I turned it on and suddenly I could barely hear the NBC commentary. It was beautiful

Very disapointing end to a superbly entertaining game. If we can keep this up I am confident we will still make the playoffs. We just went toe to toe with the best in the west, without Franzen, Holmstrom & Kronwall. Datsyuk & Zetterberg were great + a 3 point night for Lidstrom. If those 3 can continue like this ie picking up points at the pace they used to, that should be enough to carry us over the line. But dammit, we deserved 2 points tonight, especially after being robbed yesterday. Now we have to watch LA, VAN etc continue to win

Only so much can be blamed on the loss of players. For whatever reason his game just doesn't have the same jump this year. The past 5 seasons, whenever he was on the ice he was a human dynamo skating hard with the puck, backchecking ferociously, stickhandling out of the tightest situations - dominating the play whenever he was on the ice. And, contrary to what others are claiming, he WAS one of the big 3 last year. Him having an off year this season, doesn't invalidate the fact that he was one of the 3 best players in the world last season. This year, its just not there. He could be injured, he could be worn down by the last 3 playoffs, his wife could be unhappy, it could be age. It could be all 4. It could be something else. However, to completely write the rest of his career off like some on here are is just stupid. Plenty of players have off years throughout their careers. If he scores ~60 points next season and the season after, then OK, his career is on the decline. Right now, its just a down year. It will be interesting to see how plays at the Olympics mind...
