BBC commentator summed it up best "if only Hossa had played like that the previous 9 periods"

All in good time But man have Slovakia been bad every time I've seen them. Aenemic offensively and Hossa has been completely anonymous

Disapointed by the lack of Kessel on p.47

Not really. Doughty is consensus top 10, Kronner is consensus 10-20

And how about that US shot blocking? Thought for sure Kesler had broken his wrist or something. But I was astounded how often Ovie did the "controller disconnected" thing, like constantly. On the PP I was generous, thinking "OK, he's out there for the full 2 minutes, he needs to conserve his energy", but he did it even strength too, all the time.

That was the thing, you could see it in Kovulchuks eyes, like "FFS, I have to shoot again?" It was definately wearing him and Pav down, the pressure of it. Oshie was too dumb and too young to care The definition of clutch.

Definately. 1st game he seemed more like a 3rd defenceman, and he started this game like one too, but after a couple of shifts he looked like normal Pavel.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

I'd be sorry to see him go, but if the prospect is a quality C, that's about right. Quincey might fetch a mid-round pick - contenders are always looking for depth defencemen Same for Gustavsson if teams are looking for a solid backup.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

Quite frankly, if Z needs surgery, Pav needs surgery and Franzen remains out, we're going to be sellers at the deadline, not buyers. Not that we have much in the way of saleable goods - Bert, Cleary, Quincey and Sammy won't get us much.

    Zetterberg out with herniated disc

Simply not true. Franzen was concussed before the Olympics, and would still be out concussed in an NHL only no-Olympics season. He didn't suffer another concussion when he came back for 1 game, he simply wasn't recovered from his initial concussion (only 3 days symptom free when the protocol is meant to be minimum 7). He didn't rush back for the Olympics, he rushed back because we had no centers. Datsyuk was injured before the Olympics and would still be injured without the Olympics. He may be guilty of delaying surgery so as not to miss Sochi, but we won't know that for another 2 weeks. Zetterberg has been plagued with his bad back for 3 months now. He hasn't practised in forever. He's clearly been playing through the pain for Detroit. He had it before the Olympics, and he would have had it without an Olympics. MANY on here have speculated that it was only a matter of time before his back went again. Unlucky for us it went after the Czech game.

    Zetterberg out with herniated disc

Just Google translated that...with the quotes from Z its pretty conclusive BBC commentator in the Czech game just reported that Z was out for the tournament too.. Sucks for Z, but we all know he's been playing with his bad back the last month anyway, so it was only a matter of time.

Czechs are bad apart from a couple of spurts in the 2nd. Karlsson looks to have about 39mins of ice time through 2 periods. Apart from the lack of knowledge, that's pretty much how I sound
  21. Exactly. The owner weren't concerned about "losing momentum" and "not having any income from games" when they locked the players out for half a season last year, and the full season before that. And they're not concerned about injuries to their prize assets, as they can just as easily get injured in a summer world cup. Its all about money, nothing more, nothing less.
  22. 1) No-one should be fired for suffering an injury out of work 2) Pro athletes are different to regular Joes like you and me. They are the top 0.001% of the population. There are only a handful of people on the planet who can do what they do. Its why they get paid so much - the demand is high, and the supply is low. Its also why it makes no sense for an athlete to pay their own medical bills, the team would be cutting off their nose to spite their face - "You sit on the sidelines not scoring any goals for my team Ovechkin, that'll teach you a lesson!" 3) The injury excuse is a COMPLETE RED HERRING. If the owners were so concerned about injuries, they wouldn't be proposing a World Cup at the end of a long and gruelling season. Y'know, a tournament just like the Olympics were their prize assets are equally likely to get injured. Except of course, they get injured making $$$$$$ for the owners.......
  23. 1) Neither should anybody? What do you propose, have every Olympics in North America? Except here's the problem, THE REST OF THE FRACKING WORLD IS IN A DIFFERENT TIME ZONE!!!!! No matter where the Olympics are, people all around the world are "inconvenienced" by the timings. And yet the rest of the world manages to cope without crying about it. There is a world outside North America. 2) Since when were the Olympics for amateurs? Not for decades. Even the "non-professionals" are usually full-time athletes either supported by their sports governing bodies, or in Americas case, "students" with 2 hours class a week on letter writing. Or in the military, or the police, and released to be pretty much full time athletes. International sport is such a high standard these days that it is near impossible to compete in most sports if you are not full-time. And there is tons of money - TV deals, official sponsors, ticket sales, merchandising.......Bettman and Snider and co see all the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and they see it going to not them, and they get jealous, and they get mad, "Whoever loves money never has enough".
  24. 1) Quit bitching about the time zones. The rest of the world is in different time zones and manages to cope with it for major sporting events. America may be the biggest single TV market, but it is not the only TV market. 2) If the NHL received a cut of the hockey revenue from the Winter Olympics, all these complaints from Bettman and the owners would disappear instantly.
