Great to see Ozzie with the shut-out. Thats 4 strong outings by him in the last 5 games. Could he finally, at last...*deep breath*... be turning it around? He's starting on Tuesday, so Babs is clearly regaining confidence in him.
-
Would be real nice if we could stop Rick Nash for a change. Not passing him the puck in the slot would be a start
-
Congrats to Ozzie. Lets hope he continues to get back to where he was and hits all those other milestones.

Filppula has the most Even Strength points after Z, D, Hossa
Nev replied to Z and D for the C's topic in General
I just wanted to bump this delightful thread with the news that with last nights assist, Flip has surpassed his career high in points from last season. He now has 37 points in 69 games. So much for the regression theory -
If thinking that letting in 4, 5, 6......8 goals a game won't get it done in the playoffs makes you a bandwagoner, then mark me down as a bandwagoner. I hope I'm wrong. I really, truly hope I'm wrong. I hope the Wings flip this magical switch that we've been promised ever since Toronto on opening night, and leave it turned on, not just for 1 or 2 games a month. To many players playing poorly, not enough commitment & desire. Only Lilja & Cleary willing to block shots is symptomatic of this. Fact is, I'm already thinking of next season and hoping that if and when the almost inevitable playoff exit happens that it humbles the players enough to knuckle down for next season and come back with the focus that they had last year.

Not if we sign Hossa first. If we can't sign Hossa, then yes, and we probly keep Sammy and maybe Hudler as well. On the open market? He could easily bag a $5M deal.
-
FFS, can we stop arguing about Hasek & Osgood like its 2007? 27 pages of trade deadline thread and half of them are crap about about a goaltender "controversy" that ended last summer In other news, Neil for Howard and 3rd would be awesome, but I can't see it now they've got LeClaire. Sammy is of no use to them as he's an UFA. Lebda, Meech, even Hudler (with a pick coming back our way) are more likely.

Well, alls well that ends well Hossa injury not serious Reaction to 8-0 meltdown Ozzie shutout Kopecky 3 point night Ericsson first NHL point Awesome fight Filpulla at long long long last breaks his goal-less streak! Same again tonight please - getting this back-to-back monkey off our, er, backs, would be nice

Brendan Morrison, Gary Roberts and Miroslav Satan all waived
Nev replied to Heaton's topic in General
I remember asking on the old Thunderpuck forums a few years ago "just how good is Brendan Morrison?" I guess now we know the answer - hanging onto the coat-tails of Naslund and Bertuzzi. Despite the cheap s*** he pulled against us in the playoffs, picking up Gary Roberts for nowt is tempting - this is probably his last kick at the can. -
Wow, that was beautiful. Ott finally got the beatdown that has been coming his way for a LOOOOOOOONG time, and he gets suspended indefinately to boot. Its a win-win situation. Moron Stars announcers, "teams want to go after him because he's been so influential at the end of games" Er, no. Teams want to go after him because he's been a cheap-shotting chickens*** goon at the end of games. Like he just showed with his repeated cross-checks of Niedermeyer. Still, nice to see natural justice and head-office justice in action at the same time

Britain and America - two countries separated by a common language We had a blast living in Toledo and teaching yanks our slang - although I have to admit we weren't beyond making stuff up just to have a laugh You could also have told your friend she went "arse over ***"

Its funny cos its true :D As for the Wings gayness - we all know Lilja is the reincarnation of King Leonidas, and the Spartans were as bent as a bunch of 9 bob notes.
-
Wow, that's unbelievable - a championship ring for every living Wing who played on a pre-97 championship team. Thats a lot of rings, and a lot $$$$$$$ But I tell you what, its even more class. Absolutely fantastic. They should get all those guys to the Joe one night so the fans can show their appreciation one last time - one by one all those old boys are gunna start disappearing soon.
-
Good for Ozzie - now he needs to build on this. By the playoffs he needs to be at the point where he's not thinking about the game and its all coming naturally again.
-
Obviously Lilja, he has truly become what all his defenders last season said he was - a solid, reasonably priced 3rd pairing d-man who plays the PK and is our best shot blocker. He still has the occasional brain-fart, but don't we all Honourable mention to Sammy - when was the last time we had a "Grrrr, Samuelsson!" thread? He was last years joint whipping boy with Lilja, endless calls to be traded, the Sammy drinking game etc. This season he doesn't look half as lost when he has the puck - I can't remember the last time I shouted "FFS SAMMY!" as he dawdled through the neutral zone and coughed up the puck, whereas last season it was a shiftly occurance. And his shot selection, especially on the PP, is MUCH better. Instead of pointless shots from everywhere and anywhere, he's just giving the puck to Hank/Hossa instead and his point totals have rocketed

Hudler looks so like Freddie Mercury in that pic its scary! In other news, I was contemplating this morning whether I should eschew the full-on playoff beard like last year and go for the good old fashioned porn-tache
-
Q: When do you think you'll get 1000 points? Datsyuk: Maybe this season :D Congrats Pavel, here's to the next 500
-
Of course, Chelios calling someone out over their fighting style - pot, meet kettle. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/20...ieux_ready.html
-
And what a fight card it is - Luc Robitaille, Mark Recchi, Teemu Selanne.......
-
For sure - summer 2007 he went on a big-game hunting trip to Africa. I heard he didn't take a rifle, he just had to stare at the lions and they fell down dead...
-
Richards is a hell of a player and the Flyers are lucky to have him. He's never going to be an elite top-tier player in the mould of an Ovechkin, but with that long contract he has, he will probly become to Philly what Linden was to Vancouver - the heart and soul of the team for a looong time. Three 3on5 goals? Thats just insane. Doing it on the Xbox is one thing, but in the real NHL
-
In his column last week John Buccigross came up with a Mount Rushmore selection for each NHL team. His picks for Detroit? Steve Yzerman Gordie Howe Nick Lidstrom Terry Sawchuk Now the 1st 3 are no-brainers, the only debatable one is the 4th. Sawchuck over Delvechio, Lindsay, Fedorov, Shanahan, Kuznetzov etc. Choose your four.

Whilst none Maltby, Homer, Draper and DMac are retirement worthy, SOMETHING has to be done to honour them when they hang the skates up. What that is, I don't know, but 15 cups between them and counting, 2 of them who will pass 1000 games in a Redwings shirt this season, they deserve some kind of honour where they are out on the ice and the crowd are showing their appreciation for all that they have done for this team.
