Never liked the player, but good on him. Anything to displace Roy. Most of my reasons for disliking him have to do with how well he's played the Wings, and not grounded in anything real. He's always seemed a solid, dependable and relatively quiet superstar. I echo the sentiment that if I were building a team for a single year, he'd be my goalie of choice. Cheers, Marty, ya bastard.

I'm glad I read the whole thread before posting. Sincere thanks to Drake for stating the (what should be) obvious. There are rednecks everywhere, and I don't understand why there is a need to knock newer fans of the sport because of their location. I live in the Bay Area, and have met many very knowledgeable fans here that came to love the game less than a decade ago. Is it a point of pride, being a Detroit expat, that I've been following it longer? Sure. Does that give me a reason to rub it in their faces when their love of the Sharks is just as genuine as mine for the Wings? Nope. Also, it's a horrible stereotype. Everyone in TN is a hillbilly. No one would question that Canada has MORE top talent. I read a quote the other day about them being able to ice three Olympic caliber teams, and there really isn't any arguing that fact. The real question, though, is who can field the best team... Can Russia field a single team that could take on Canada's best team? Remains to be seen, but I would hardly call it a foregone conclusion that they can't. They don't have the depth Canada does, but their top talent is some of the best on the planet. Not that this completes the argument, consider the following: Nash, Crosby/Thornton, Iginla Ovechkin, Malkin/Datsyuk, Kovalchuk Who do you pick?

He was a model player on a team without much history (well, at least in THAT city). Would I retire his number on the Wings for his contributions to team work ethic and attitude?
