Fun read -- thanks for the post.

Let's hope the competition is friendly Sorry for a side question, but has anyone heard anything at all (rumors or otherwise) about Hossa in the lockerroom? Meaning, is he a funny, likable guy? A quiet, intense competitor? A whiny little so-and-so? I've literally heard nothing at all recently and am curious as to what demeanor he'll bring to the club off ice.

A few reasons, IMO: 1) Datsyuk is the better playmaker, and Hossa should pan out to be a better sniper than Hank. 2) Hossa isn't a center, nor is Homer. One of Z or Dats needs to hit the second line per item 1. 3) Hank has a long history of making the players around him better, which should elevate his second line mates. I can't support this with stats, but my impression has long been that Datsyuk is the type of player that will excel when he plays with players of his caliber, while Hank has the ability to lift those around him. Again, just my opinion. All that said, I fully expect this season to be a first line A, first line B type of arrangement. Let's face it... the "second" line as it's being described here would be the envy of many an NHL club for their first line duties.

I love the guy, I have mad appreciation for the cups he brought to Detroit (yes, I think he was one of the major reasons we won the first two in the modern era), I hope he has a great final year or two and retires with grace... wearing another sweater. PS: To whoever mentioned him in a media role in the near future:

More proof that Ovechkin is basically awesome

Well played. -
As who? Peter Stormare? William H Macy? Steve Buscemi? The wood chipper?

My girlfriend is officially the biggest Wings fan on the planet tonight, if only so she can see this monstrosity removed from my face.

Pronger may be a lot of things, many (most) of them no-so-nice, but a moron is not among them.

BTW, props for using StubHub. I was their third engineer (started there in 2001), so you definitely used some of my code while buying tickets. This makes me smile. People should use this service, if only because I know they issue paychecks to some fantastic people... and no, I'm not including myself there. I left early last year

I'd also like to know, as I have a print at home ticket as well. Anyone?

  That is the funniest thing I've read in a very, very long time.

Reviewable calls are the only solution, IMO. It's not like Homer has revolutionized the game with his style. People have been doing it for years, in one form or another. s***, Dino was doing it while Homer was still playing in pee-wee, the big difference being that Homer's bigger and has taken screening to a new, more blatant level. This whole thing is silly, honestly. Bettman wanted more goals and more excitement. How on earth does Homer's game subtract from either? I'd argue that he adds excitement to the game based on the number of times he gets cross checked in the head and gets back right up, and there is no question that he is adding goals to the game. I dislike the guy for sure, but I've never been one of the bigger Bettman bashers out there...but if there is any knee jerk rule change based on Homer's style of play, he'll be the biggest hypocrite this game has ever seen.

Hmmmm. Gotta take some issue with this one. I'm more than twice 16 years old, probably about the same age as most of the more well known performers. I'll also be spending time there not taking pills or dancing with glow sticks, just enjoying the music in the sun. Not everyone that likes old school Detroit techno is or ever was a candy raving clown. Some of us are just big music fans (of all genres). Not that I think you intended to offend, but just thought I should clarify.
-
It's not hockey related, but there is a HUGE electronic music festival happening at Hart Plaza just a stones throw from the Joe. Not sure if this is your thing or not, but I know I'll be wasting an hour or two there on Monday before game two

Not to rain on a parade or anything, but isn't Drapes a -5 these playoffs? Sure, he'd school him in the faceoff circle, but unless he also becomes a quick-line-change-specialist, this matchup is not one I adore. What I do adore, however, is the prospect of Kronwall bringing some open ice love to Malkin's dance-up-the-gut stylings.

I think it's safe to say that something else is definitely going on. I don't fear the worst here like some, but when you couple this with Holland's recent remarks about the proper way to report injuries to the press, I have to guess that he's sporting a bum knee or somesuch at this point. Here's to hoping he makes it back soon!

PS 2008 Stanley Cup Final Photoshop War: Pittsburgh Penguins
Uncle Danny replied to Matt's topic in Hall of Fame
They've been a little slow to respond over at the Pens board, but it sounds as if they'll have a thread up before too long. I'm looking forward to the back and forth PS: In watching their boards today, I noticed a distinctly different flavor than what I saw in Dallas, Colorado or Nashville. Sure, they're a more vitriolic lot, but the fact that they're a blue collar city that loves hockey the way we do really shines through. Some very knowledgeable folks over there, I'm happy to say.- 561 replies

Yeah, unless I've missed some nasty posts, I don't think 33 is here to troll. He's been a well mannered guest here, from what I've seen. RussiaMalkin, on the other hand.... tsk tsk.

The best part about that quote is that he was neither lying nor bragging. I can almost picture John MacLean saying the same thing... "I've scored 400 goals covered like that... yippee kay yay, motherf***er!"

Cleary I can continue to cut some slack after his injury, but does it seem to anyone else that poor Flip is on the receiving end of lady luck's badness stick lately? He's out there working every shift, getting into position for some great chances and just able able to seal the deal, it seems. I can't fault the guy's effort. Not that I expect he'll ever be another Dats, but I think in a year or two, we'll see him blossom some in the clutch. He should benefit greatly from some extra muscle, as he seems to get pushed off the puck fairly often, just like Pavel did some years back. Here's to hoping he hits the weight room like Pavel did
-
It was rather endearing when he called for Hank to pay attention, presumably because he wanted him to be ready in case he needed bailing out on the English. Pavs did well, though -- you're right, he's improving.
