I would be surprised. Dom wasn't hurt, it didn't look pre-meditated despite him getting the shoulder up and we're up 4-0. No reason to exact revenge and potentially fire up the Preds.
-
Yeah. Good to hear him calling it as he sees it, like usual. I don't think anyone that listens to him for more than a couple games could ever accuse him of homerism.
-
Agreed there! I'm actually watching on centerice online as opposed to on tv (I'm working as I watch). Has anyone else noticed the Detroit online feeds having absolutely HORRIBLE, overdriven sound relative to other feeds? Any tips on this?

Wings ============ Steve Yzerman Nicklas Lidstrom Brendan Shannahan Sergei Fedorov Bob Probert HM: The Professor, Hank & Datsyuk (they'll likely supplant Probert for a 5th place tie by the time all is said and done. As another poster said, they're "peanut butter and jelly.") I never got to see Terrible Ted Lindsay play, but I have a feeling he'd be on the list if I was just a few decades older. Non-Wings ============ Joe Sakic (I don't care how much I hated the Avs back when. Joe was the second best #19 of his era and always pure class) Pat Lafontaine Pavel Bure Alexander Ovechkin Mike Modano

This pleases me Any opinions as to why he's been so injury prone? Based on the injuries he's had, it's not like anyone can call him soft for not being able to play through them.
-
Personally, I'm glad to have him. A lot of the talk here about 1-0 games should begin to evaporate with Kronwall and Stuart in the lineup. Both are huge offensive upgrades to what we've had on the ice recently. Obviously, the offense won't be the same until Lids and Raf are back, but I don't think there is any denying that once they are, we have a top four that any team (perhaps save Ana) would be jealous of. It's true he didn't look too excited, but, let's face it, hockey players aren't typically known for their on camera charisma. Edit: Spelling

Ahhh...you are correct sir. Although after looking it up, it is actually "säta" and not "zatta."
-
Yep, apparently it's quite common, like calling someone named Aleksander "Sasha" instead. I asked my girlfriend (who is Russian) about it, and she said most people in his life probably call him Pasha, as Pavel is far more formal. I never heard of it before this board, but then again I don't hang out with anyone named Pavel But why is Hank called Zatta? That one I don't get.

I like the stick salute. Great way for them to thank the fans. But... Detroit should do something original, like you said. My idea is that they pick a Wings player each home game, and that player sings the national anthem.

I hate to say this, but... /fail

Ok, sure. Good points. Great. Nice post. But what does that have to do with trading Ozzie? I'm not one in favor of it, personally, but I would have to think that this makes him all the more attractive to other teams (and less attractive to Holland as trade bait, given the fragile-ness of Hasek). Just my .02.

Edit: I posted crying for video. Here it is, from another thread. Not the greatest coverage, but it'll work http://broadband.tsn.ca/tsn/?vid=32763

Because the Blues making a trade with us is about as likely as Dubya serving another term.

This recent slump may be a good thing. Without bothering to look up stats, it's always seemed to me that the Wings hit a slump come January, then catch fire again. If we're slumping now, a full 30 days later than usual, that can only mean good things in the playoffs, right? Right? Bueller? As for people calling for secondary scoring to step up tonight, how about our primary scoring (#5 aside) steps back up? The looked horrible yesterday! Prediction: Wings 2, Ducks 1

Awesome. Thanks for posting that He's rooting for the wrong team, but you gotta love the kid's passion.

Permission granted to be an irrational fan, but... Sammy is not, I repeat, NOT, the useless shot factory he gets ripped for here so often. We have a team built around playmakers and not a single true sniper. SOMEONE other than Lidstrom has to shoot the puck!
-
Bad news, for sure...but lets keep some perspective. 1) Hating on Sammy for this is almost as retarded as the rest of the Sammy bashing that happens on this board. He was shooting the puck, trying to score or set up a rebound. The puck sailed high and hit his teammate. This does not make him a horrible hockey player or the devil incarnate. Get over it. These things happen. 2) Cleary is out for a reported 6-8 weeks. Knowing him, and the nature of the injury (i.e. it's not a knee, ankle or groin), it's likely that his schedule will actually accelerate. I'm going to guess he misses 4-5 weeks, and come back with a mask. His effectiveness will be limited due to the time out of game and due to the mask, but he'll be back. I'm also guessing that he'll be able to start skating within a week of the surgery, just no contact plays. This is good. 3) This does step up our need for F depth, but it's not the end of the world. If that puck had hit Homer, I'd be singing a slightly different tune, but this is an energy player, not one of our top 3.
-
Pure speculation, of course, but here is my list in no particular order (and I'm ignoring anyone not in the regular Wings rotation to keep things simple): 1) Sammy: decent player, right hand cannon, underpriced and tied into a contract 2) Osgood: Just past his prime goalie having a career year at a crazy low price. Also tied into another year, if I'm not mistaken. Wings need to make room for Howard. This is, of course, contingent on Hasek staying. 3) Hudler: Young, improving, has shown he can put the puck in the net given minutes. He could be a real threat on a lower tier team with an elite center. 4) Lilja: Solid PK, just physical enough. Could be a solid top four defender on a lower tier team in need of help (NYR, anyone?) and isn't going to break the bank 5) Lebda: Just coming into his own, good wheels, underpriced
-
I think they're staying at the Stalker Motor Inn on Unbalanced Blvd.
-
I like Lebda too. Quite a bit. Keep in mind that any player being dangled as trade bait means they're worth something. See, the way this works is that one GM thinks he can IMPROVE his team by acquiring a player from another team. Just teasing, of course.
-
I should have added: Cleary: contract year, really lit things up this year, still young enough to have some solid NHL seasons ahead if he keeps up the regimen Of course there are reasons for and against each player being traded (for example, Cleary was a career underperformer before coming to Detroit), but it does make for interesting discussion. I think Hudler and some Griffins are our only true non-pick bait this season, but we'll see. Once again, I predict no major trades for us this season.

Glen Murray hits the IR when someone looks at him funny. No thanks. Lapointe? I wasn't that big on him back when he was a Wing, but for the right price he does bring something to the table we're lacking. Hossa, Sundin, Jokinen? Sure, but there is no way we will afford any of them. Forsberg? He turned us down. Blake? Bum ankle and old. He wouldn't help much this year, especially given the likely price. Lang? Oh, puhleeze. Sad, but true. I'd love to see Hossa, Sundin or Jokinen in the red and white, and would have said the same about Blake prior to his injury...but they'll all cost more than they're worth at this point. Lapointe is an interesting choice, and I could get behind this if the price is right, but with Mac attempting a comeback, I might take the diminished returns on his skills for the energy he'd bring to the lockerroom over Marty. I just don't see a major play in our future this season.
