http://www.wndu.com/sports/headlines/42878972.html Notre Dame senior goaltender Jordan Pearce signed a two-year NHL entry-level contract with the Detroit Red Wings on Friday, April 10 with announcement made by Red Wings general manager Ken Holland. The deal will begin with the 2009-10 season. In keeping with team policy, additional terms of the contract were not disclosed. Pearce is currently with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League (AHL) on an amateur tryout. He made his first pro start on Saturday, April 11th in the Griffins’ regular-season finale in Peoria, Ill., making 33 saves in a 5-2 loss to the Peoria Rivermen. Two of the goals he surrendered were to former Notre Dame player Yan Stastny who is a member of the St. Louis Blues organization. Signing with the Red Wings caps a remarkable senior season for the 6-1, 206-pound goaltender. Just a week ago, he captured both the Notre Dame Monogram Club’s team Most Valuable Player award and the Notre Dame Club of St. Joseph Valley’s Rockne Scholar-Athlete Award for the second consecutive season. During the 2008-09 season, Pearce was 30-6-3 overall with a 1.68 goals-against average, a .931 save percentage and eight shutouts while helping Notre Dame to the lowest scoring defense in the nation (1.73 goals per game). He led the nation in wins and shutouts and was second in goals-against average and fourth in save percentage. His 30 wins and eight shutouts set Notre Dame single-season marks and he finished his career with a school record 59 victories. During the season, he reeled off a 20-game unbeaten streak (17-0-3) from Oct. 31 to Jan. 30 and for the CCHA playoffs, he was 4-0 with a 0.75 goals-against average and a .973 save percentage. Pearce helped lead Notre Dame to its second CCHA regular-season and playoff championship in the last three years and its third trip to the NCAA Tournament. He was named to the CCHA all-tournament team and captured tournament MVP honors as the Irish swept Northern Michigan (2-1) and Michigan (5-2) to win the title. Away from the rink, the talented goaltender is also a talented student, as he owns a 3.816 grade-point average in his double major of anthropology and pre-med and had begun the interview process for medical school prior to signing with the Red Wings. He was honored by the CCHA as the conference’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was selected to the scholar-athlete team for the second consecutive season. Along with teammate Erik Condra, Pearce also finished as a finalist for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. Grand Rapids finishes the regular season with a 43-25-6-6 record in the AHL Western Conference’s North Division, good for 98 points. The Griffins open the 2009 Calder Cup playoffs on Friday, April 17 versus the Hamilton Bulldogs in Hamilton, Ont., in a best-of-seven opening round series.

Oz played good, Dats play great, Filp played great, Hossa did as well. Z was really disappointing tonight as he has been for a while now..........
-
filp looked really good out there today, Z has looked like crap lately. Dats and Hossa seem to be only ones that show up every night
-
Chris Osgood, I grew up watching him, so I've based the way I play kinda like him.

Contract talks between Wings and Hossa, Franzen on hold
frederick9125 replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
I take Option 3, save and let go off sammy, and bring up someone, Leino is a RFA also. bring him back defently. And I think that if by chance an injury happens bring in Larsson and see what he can do. -

"He is 6 foot 7 and has reflexes on par with Kiprusoff." "He was a secret early on this year, but now at least 20 teams are known interested." "He will be one of the first goalies taken in Montreal" "Everywhere he plays now he is the first interview the press wants." "When he bends over his ass hits the crossbar. Seriously." MIKKO KOSKINEN came out of nowhere. Two years ago no one talked about this kid. Now, he is tearing up the Finnish elite League as a Twenty-Year-Old. The Finnish elite league is often considered one of the toughest for goalies in the world. Who else once tore up this league like this? Tim Thomas. This kid is the surprise sleeper of the draft. He’s legitimately 6’7”, lightning quick, and he’s 3rd in the Finnish Elite League as a 20 year-old! He’ll be 21 in July, but as a European he is draft eligible. Early on he was projected as a middle-round pick because no one had seen him play. Now EVERYONE has seen him play (and many are heading back to watch the playoffs) At least two thirds of the teams in the NHL all seem to have the same reaction...they are hoping that no one else notices him. That he flies under the radar somehow...Hard to fly under the radar at 6'7". As he got better down the home stretch in Finland (He led his team to second place and finished third in Save Percentage and G.A.A) scouts are not saying that their teams are considering taking him early – very early. He was such a relative unknown that he has his detractors as well...some feel he will revolutionize the position, some feel he is way too green. There aren't that many great UFA goalies out there this summer so I think that will also help him a lot, and the Finnish players I talk to all love the guy. One thing I have always found to be the case with the Fins in the NHL. They are probably better than any other nationality among NHL players at judging talent. It is amazing how whenever I hear from a bunch of Finnish players about a guy he turns out to be amazing.
