That's how they are doing it in Minnesota. Today being December 1st, the Wild have named Kim Johnsson their Captain. Taking over for Mikko Koivu as Captain, Koivu will wear the 'A' along with Andrew Brunette for the duration of this season. The Wild are going to continue rotating the Captaincy monthly, and rewarding the player who is showing the greatest leadership qualities with the 'C'. But with no disrespect to the great Captains like Messier, Yzerman, Gretzky, and the long list of guys, including Lidstrom. I cant say I totally hate that idea for certain teams that are looking for a leader on and off the ice. Us as fans, I am guessing have a slightly different view of what a Captain means to a team, then what it may mean in one of these locker rooms. I am guessing teams vary from one another. What does everyone else think of this?

My opinion of Lidstrom is pretty high. I wouldn't typically trash him or any other Wings player, or coach.

The problem is, every mediocre team, as well as the good teams are bringing their A game and using Detroit as their measuring stick. Which makes every team/every game a big game.

If Kope was to drop the gloves with Perry, win or lose, the Wings still win. I would gladly sit Kope for 5, while Perry sat for 5. That would be a favorable trade off for the Wings.

The ranking has been released. But is this really it for third jerseys? This is from the link - No. We'll get to start this all over again next year but on a much smaller scale. I can tell you there are at least two teams that are working on alternate sweaters for 2009. The Minnesota Wild are to have a green (finally!) third jersey for their 10th anniversary season and the Calgary Flames already have a final design in hand — though I can't tell you what it looks like. Thought I'd get those seeds planted early. As far as the other 10 teams, I'm hoping for third jerseys from the Rangers, Ducks and Panthers next season. I don't expect anything from the Devils, Red Wings or Canadiens. So to sum up... 3rd introduced in '08 // Thrashers, Bruins, Sabres, Hurricanes, Blackhawks, Stars, Oilers, Kings, Islanders, Senators, Flyers, Coyotes, Penguins, Sharks, Blues, Lightning, Maple Leafs, Canucks 3rd expected in '09 // Flames, Wild 3rd status unknown, but hopeful // Ducks, Avalanche, Panthers, Predators, Rangers 3rd not expected anytime soon // Blue Jackets, Red Wings, Canadiens, Devils, Capitals Quick note on those teams categorized as "not expected anytime soon." I didn't just pull that out of thin air. Blue Jackets and Capitals management have both publicly said a third jersey is not in their near future. The Canadiens still have a couple new Centennial throwbacks for next year (who knows, one may turn into a third jersey in the future). And the Red Wings and Devils have historically never had a third jersey. I wouldn't expect that to change without warning. That should cover everybody. Just wanted to keep you guys updated. I honestly hope so. I am an obvious die-hard Wing fan, but I would really like to see the Leafs get turned around. The city and their fans deserve a better showing than what they have received in many years.

So what is the game plan in Toronto now? Toronto publicly acknowledged that they were rebuilding this year. For some strange reason, I don't see Burke being a rebuilding kind of guy. I am curious if he decides to make some trades and try and make a playoff run this year. If that's the case, somebody hide the prospects!
