When I see the threads about least favourite teams on a list or a faves on a list, Chicago usually is second on the list of least favourites just behind Anaheim. But it's almost unfair when such good rivalries that Detroit has battled with over the years constantly suck. I have never liked Chicago or Toronto, but the people/fans deserve a better showing then what they have been given. And living near Anaheim, and seeing first hand and reading local stuff, the damage that Burke has put this team in. It's identical to what he did to Vancouver. Question: Do you think that Burkes dealings, his mouth, and reputation has hurt the Ducks ability to make a good trade so they can get under the Cap? It seems as if other teams are not willing to give him/Ducks a sweet deal. Is it punishment, or just luck and bad planning on his part?

I bet the Wings will be happy to know this premomition! Good thread, good call!

I have a few friends that attend UCLA, and I have been hearing their recruiting is suffering big time. They are not having any luck trying to attract some good solid talent. It will eventually turn around, and they will redeem themselves. But their mens basketball is what really this school is about now. They have no problem attracting talent there. But yeah you pretty much nailed it. The Pac 10 isn't to hot this year. Cal and Oregon have dropped off dramatically, and the one time University of Washington is no longer a threat. It's all SC which is fine by me.

Angels. They are right down the road from me.

I have no problem with that. I like the guy. I know he isn't as effective as he once was, but I think he will contribute more then we expect him to.
-
We all new it was coming. I sometimes read some of the rumor stuff on him. The teams consistently being brought up are LA, NJ, Boston, St.L, and NYI. I hope he goes to LA, that way I can see him play some more.

I grew up playing hockey here in southern California. I was a defenseman. We mostly played in Anaheim, Riverside, and Ontario. I was debating on getting myself back involved with the game, when I was in almost a life ending motorcycle accident almost two years ago. My lower half of my body doesn't work like it used to. But the next best thing is, two of my boys play. My 10 year old plays Center for the league here in Riverside at 'Icetown'. My 4 year old is just skating mostly. I am teaching him how to stop and skate backwards. He wants to play real bad.

I don't know the ins and outs of Pete's recruiting, but I am sure it wouldn't take a whole lot of convincing to come to a national championship contender if asked to. I know Ole Miss has an excellent program, but when given an option...I mean I doubt they bought him a Lexus or something, but I am sure some type of incentive came about. Maybe a hot cheerleader sent to his room after every win! lol. But man he is a beast on the field. Really enjoyed watching him Saturday.

In all honestly I have been fairly hard on Hasek over the last couple of seasons. I really had a hard time with the defeat in the WCF in '07 with him in goal. I was definetly in favor of a switch to Ozzie this past season, especially after Hasek went down, and Ozzie went on his role. But.....Hasek imo should definetly be on this list. The problem with these 'All time' comparisons is they make you compare the likes of Sawchuk to Hasek. And I think comparing him to Sawchuk is a little irrelevant. In part due to the difference in era's, and the way the game is played, officiated, and even the type of equipment a goalie wears in todays games. If you look at how mainstream sports have changed in the way the athletes condition themselves compared to when the game was younger, you could easily argue this as a determining factor of a players ability to compete at the highest level. And as a reward being put in an elite category like this. edit: sp

Yeah, I am all for Stevie getting what he wants. But it will be a hard pill to swallow, with him at the helm of another organization! Could you imagine him taking over a team like Anaheim? I'd be torn.

thats a bad ass picture. I wish I could help you.

Ohio State should be right up there in the first couple spots, but in all honesty UM and MSU have some pretty annoying fans as well. All these big schools have a lot of pride and are willing to talk a lot of s***. I am a huge USC fan, and yes there are plenty of annoying fans. SC fans are neck and neck with Raider fans. Thats why I just watch the big games on tv.

I think this is pretty good news, me being a red wing fan and all. It seemed every time the Wings struggled last season against Chicago, Lang was a part of it. A goal or an assist or something. So hopefully this weakens the Blackhawks a little when the Wings play them.

all I can say is, thank god my favourite team has a cool jersey/logo. I have never thought the Detroit jersies were even questionably tacky or ugly! Thrasher jersies are pretty ugly as well!

My wife and I at a wedding not long ago.

I voted for Zetterberg. Though I would really like to see Datsyuk score often. I think he may have a real chance to put some good numbers with his own line; if that's the way they play him.

no heat, just my own 2 cents. I understand your thinking in the area, but I am not so sure players do not fear Lidstrom. I know Pronger, Chara, and Phanuef play physical. And they can hurt you! But I think if it was me as a professional, I would rather take a hit from one of these guys and live to see it, then looking like a complete fool. As the best D man just played you! Just my opinion though.
-
It's hard to pick a best player in the league. Most here seem to feel that Lidstrom is basically the best D-man, and a lot of posts have stated AO is the best forward if not the ones stating it's Crosby. But aren't we comparing apples and oranges here? All I can say is, thank god it's a team sport. And Detroit has the best team! Listen to the players interviews. I have never heard Lidstrom float his boat, and say"yep, they couldn't have done it without me tonight. Good thing I brought my 'A' game." It's always the team played good, our defensive held their own" and so on.

http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/story/2008...ings-stoll.html I got to hand it to the Kings. At least they are trying to make some deals to make improvements. Living in southern California, a lot of the hockey news is the Kings trying to make some deals. Supposedly they are interested in Selanne and Schneider both. I do hope they get some talent on that team and have a better showing for their fans. And seeing it first hand the Kings have a pretty loyal fan base. Take it from me. Try walking to your car a mile after a Wings/Kings game in a red wings jersey surrounded by LA gangbangers with jerseys on!
-
you know I was a little surprised he got a deal like that. He must have a good agent or the Kings are just desperate.
-
I could totally park myself all day and watch the 97, 98, and 02 season highlights. I love that stuff!

my boy can read and say 'F-U-C-K'. And looks at me and says thats a bad word dad! You know, I cant help but grow old from the maturity and anger of some posters online. If someone can't get their point across without reverting to capitalized 'F' bombs and personal attacks on others, then there's a personal problem. I mean were talking about hockey and our favourite team. Were not talking war and religion here!
-
Really? My 4 year old thought so. But I guess that's my fault he can read already, and he stands over me interested in what I am doing.
-
Actually, I think the mods do a pretty decent job at merging these threads. But whats the deal with the capitalized 'F" bombs? You should hope the mods don't do their job after all. Isn't there a rule or law on here about going overboard on the profanity?
