    Chelios, McCarty to return

You should be the one to talk! Talk about wasting bandwidth with re-explaining everything for us.

    FSN-Detroit

Fortunately Directv carries vs, nhl network, fsn detroit, as well as me ordering the Centre ice package. Its just covers all the bases. Every game is covered.

    Kenny says no

I wouldn't be surprised if Sundin just took the year off and returned next year for a whole new saga called "Sundin Watch." But if he plays this year he probably will sign with the Rangers. Just my opinion of course. A lot of rumor talk with fitting him in to NY, they would need to move Gomez, and Vancouver keeps popping up as a destination. But hell, who knows at this point. I almost could care less about this Sundin situation. It's just getting old waiting for this guy to figure out what he wants to do.

    FSN-Detroit

SoCal Wings fan here who lives the Wings through Directv with the Center Ice package. Pretty much everygame last year was broadcasted. The only ones blacked out last season not on FSN D were the few that were on the nhl network, which you receive as a channel anyway. The only s***ty thing about being in say the Ducks and Kings markets, is when the Wings are here or home, you have to listen to their broadcasters. Bob Miller of the Kings is typically respectful and cool. But the Ducks announcers are complete tools!

Joe Sakic signs one year deal

I just like messing with his name and calling him Sak-itch! Colorado was probably on their knees begging him to return, so they have at least a year to figure out their future of a team. Good for hockey having him back though!

    HOSSA shirts available

You know I am so ecstatic at the thought of Hossa being a Wing. But in my own head, I have come to the conclusion that I will not buy a shirt or a jersey as I was previously pondering. If he was signed longer than a year, I would probably be all over it. So if this guy stuicks around, then yeah I will buy something with his name on it. I know he is not a rental player, but a 1 year contract isn't more than temporary, imo. I can't help but laugh at the Penguin fans who ran out and bought an authentic HOSSA jersey when he was acquired. And then he totally gave them the shaft.
  9. If that was the case Avery would be a franchise player with a long contract for this organization. Hell, he would probably try out for the Tigers as well!

    Blues interested in Shanahan

Just over at http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/stl080815.html Apparently St.Louis is definetly interested in Shanny. NJ and Philly also reportedly interested as well. What would you think of Shanny coming back to the Central division? Does it matter that the beloved Shanny would possibly play Detroit in Detroit numerous times? Personally I have no animosity towards him for leaving. I hate to think he would go back to the Blues though. But I would love to watch him play regularly again.

Everyones' favorite NHL team and why

Growing up in southern California and having roots in Michigan. I became a Red Wings fan once I attended my first game in Detroit 1983. But the only hockey available here at home in the 80's was the Kings. As an adult, the Kings are amongst my least favourite teams, neck and neck with the Ducks. I really enjoy going to Phoenix and watching the Wings destroy them twice a year. Not to mention taking my kids and showing them who Gretzky is. Phoenix is a definite second (distant second) 1. Detroit 2. Phoenix 3. Toronto 4. Calgary 5. Montreal Least fave: 1. Anaheim 2. Philly 3. LA 4. Chicago 5. Colorado

    Blues interested in Shanahan

Between players like Jokinnen, Avery, and maybe Shanny, the west just keeps adding popular and talented players. I like that. I grow tired of these analysts so far up the Eastern teams asses.

    Hossa to Detroit @ Letsgopens.com

Good post. I agree. I think the Pens will lose a step this season. A couple good pick ups this off season for them doesn't really compare to the big losses they endured.

    Chelios, Downey, McCarty, and Quincey

Mac was definetly the feel good story of the year, and how the mighty Red Wings gave this guy a second chance. I absolutely loved watching him in his day, but Downey in to handle the fighting last season totally worked. I thought Mac was a little bit of a distraction and a liability as well. I mean no one is expecting either one of these guys to be a goal scorer or fast skater, but if there is a player on the ice that is obviously getting valuable ice time, he better be contributing. This team doesn't need a feel good/enforcer/fighter guy that is a liability whether it's Mac, Downey or someone else. But I am convinced the team needs somebody! Edit: clarity

    Chelios, Downey, McCarty, and Quincey

you honestly believe all that excessive grit, fighting, and enforcers is what this team needs? I thought the team faired pretty well with the style they played with Downey in while playing teams with certain individuals that enjoyed cheap shotting talent. and then a healthy scratch when there isn't a viable threat. Remember were talking Detroit hockey here, not thug hockey like that avatar you advertise.

    Toronto Maple Leafs Captain

ha ha, it's amzing what one would find when typing 'leafs' on photobucket.
  20. I don't typically count any team out! But to legitimately think that Vancouver would be a contender this year even in their own division is a long shot, much less in the incereasingly tough Western Conference. Even if this team landed Sundin, they would be at most on the fence of a making a playoff spot. Remember last season the Northwest had Minnesota, Calgary, and Colorado have playoff spots. Anything can happen, but don't sit there and say "whats up with you guys" Take a look at the big picture here.

    Frei: Coach rankings

It's kind of an interesting article. I definetly agree with Babs up there and all. But the situations with Granato in Colorado and Wilson in Toronto getting ready to spar with the media will be the most entertainment this year.

    Salary Cap Predicament

Thanks Matt. I kind of messed up the direct link anyways. Putting the link for the 07-08 season. But I was a little curious at why some names on there were shaded. And why the Hossa number was off from I previously heard he would be paid. edit:sp

    Salary Cap Predicament

I guess the Filppula signing and the desire to read and acquire as much information about the deal as I possibly could, got me thinking. Does this deal for this amount, and this type of cap hit put the team in a slight predicament? Don't get me wrong. I have been in favor of getting him signed all Summer. I think it's a good deal for both sides. I agree it's a little steep at the moment, but I think the signing will benefit the team years to come. I understand and read a good amount of posts on the pinned Flip signing here in GD. And as the thread went further along into trade talk of less popular players to fit maybe the role players such as Mac, Downey, and Cheli. I kind of wanted a thread about, being pretty set as a team already, with tying up a few loose ends here and there. I know hockeybuzz is typically rumor, and Eklund is nothing more than a place where rumors are sent in hopes of being spread. I don't know a whole lot about Mark Spizzirri, but the article that is pasted here http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=16378 kind of got me thinking. Forgive the article topic of the signing of Flip. But the lower end of the article talks a little bit about making a trade to stay under the cap just prior to the start of the season. My questions: 1. The article names Samuelsson as a possibility. Does the team/organization feel the same way about him as many of the fans of this team do? And will he be traded? 2. I feel it is unlikely that Lilja would go. I get the feeling the team/organization feel a lot different about him as a player and his talent, then do the fans. What do you think? 3. It seems as if all that is left to do this summer, is sign the role players. Is it likely the team will do anything else notable about getting someone else good but cheap who wants to win? I guess there a few notables still out there, that are UFA's under a mil. (imo) I would rather pick another forward to throw on the 3 or 4 line and pay him Cheli's mil or less. Hell Stu Barnes only made 900G last year. He's a UFA. And I am not saying Stu is the guy, but I wonder if decent talent that is unsigned out there, and isn't expecting more than a million, an ton of ice time, would be interested in coming to Detroit. Here's Detroits picture, for the folks that don't know who makes what: http://nhlnumbers.com/overview.php?team=DET&season=0708
