    Expand the playoff tournament?

People that dont live in this area dont understand that the entertainment industry take precidence over everything here. Positive or negative. Thats the way it is here. Its always been like that, and probably always will. Hell I was ticked I had to take an alternate way home yesterday because they had this widely travelled area shut down, do to a filming of a movie. But along with most here, I definetly could give two s***s about Paris Hilton or whoever is doing what. But just because hockey isnt on the news everynight covering the league, doesn't mean that there aren't interested people in it in the area. Hell ESPN doesn't even cover it all! I guess the locl news outlets feel there is always so much other newsworthy stuff they think you should hear about first, I don't know. But the Kings and Ducks are always on TV, just like any other TV market with their local team. There are die hard fans still going to to see the worse team (Kings) in the league still. I guess my biggest beef is that people who have grown up in the cooler environments such as Canada feel as if hockey is their game, it's where teams belong, and that hockey certainly cannot be played in an area that gets warm or is never cold enough to play he game on a pond. Hell I dont know. I just returned from Calgary as well. I was there in January. And dumb luck I was there when the Kings were in town. And all I heard was, "hockey is Canada, it should be a crime to play the game in California or even the U.S. The Stanley Cup belongs in Canada" I certainly understand the compassion they feel about the game and the Cup. I am the same. My love for the Wings goes back to 1982. But just because the game is played in an area that it is not widely known as a hockey-mecha, doesn't mean it's a crime either. People have opinions, and I have mine. But fortunately for me hockey is here to stay in southern Cal. And the rest of the opposing view have something to wine about.

    Expand the playoff tournament?

I have to say that I disagree with most of what you said. I attend a couple of games here in there in Phoenix. Their ticket prices are high as well. Their arena is always full when the Wings come to town. I cant speak accurately about other games. But as for the Honda center bringing in people to the seats. I hate the Ducks, but I love hockey period. If Anaheim is playing a team that I have never seen, I try and go. I tried to buy a ticket when they played Montreal not long ago, and their were none left days in advance, not even cheap ones. Everytime I have been to the Honda Center and Staples Center the arenas are full, parking, and traffic is a joke. One thing maybe your usher friend is seeing, is what has been going on for some time now, is that Anaheim is completely sold out all of their season tickets this year. I think there may have been a few small packages up high. But anyway that is whats going on in Detroit as well. The lower bowl is half empty a lot of the time. But the seats are already sold. I am having a hard time understanding why people believe that just because they live in a cold environment or Canada they are automatically more entitled to hockey or a team. Granted the sport is more widely marketed and is a staple in many homes. But as much as I disagree with Bettman and his policies, I think expanding and exposing more markets to hockey is a good thing. Some markets I scratch my head at. Like Phoenix, Carolina, Dallas, TB, Florida, Atlanta, and Nashville. Who would have thought. But look at the sucesses they have generated in those areas? Carolina, Dallas, Anaheim, TB have all won the cup. Gretzky is taking a extremely young hockey team and will eventually make them a viable threat.

    Expand the playoff tournament?

Another Draftee looking to stir up s***. First of all I live in southern California. Second of all I live in the Ducks/Kings market. Thirdly the amount of people that are interested in it go to the games. They dont sit around and watch hockey on TV. If I drive to Honda Center and catch a game, it takes me a half an hour just to get out of the parking lot. The arena is full, and everyone is wearing all their Ducks crap. As much as I hate the Ducks/Kings, they have a huge cash flow with these organizations. LA Kings are the same. Worst team in the league, but glass seats are 405 dollars! Anything down low near the ice is a hundred bucks or more. These franchises are making a killing on tickets. memerobilia, tv, radio, hell even parking. And from what I have seen and/or read, San Jose is similar. I travelled to Detroit back in January and bought a glass seat for 80$ plus fees. I just about s*** myself at how cheap it was. Dont ask why in the hell do we need 3 teams in California? Mason Dixon line? This isn't the Civil War in 1865 man. Hockey I think is the greatest game on earth, what better than to expose the game to more people geographically. Live in the now.

    Datsyuk Vs Zetterberg Back !

I have always been a Datsyuk fan more than Z. I love the puck handling, and the take aways. But Z is great as well. I know they play well on different lines, but I believe they feed off each other and play exceptionally well together. I no longer have a preference between the two. I am just appreciative of them both be Redwing players. Cause if they weren't, it would suck ass playing against them.

    D Mac

First of all, I completely disagree with your view or should I say negative view. So the game is over, and what did McCarty do? Well, he didn't make a fool of himself, he was not a liability in either zone, he was always moving his feet, and he helped stop a goal. What else do you want from the man? He did his job, and we the fans loved it. He is a staple in Detroit Redwings hockey, live with it!

    No-touch icing.

It always seems to be an issue towards the end of the season or if a player is seriously injured from a hit or from racing towards a puck and/or being injured in some other way. No touch icing. Does it take the excitement out of the game, racing for the puck? I don't know if I necessarily have an opinion on this. I know there was a thread about the hit last week, but I didnt see a thread solely on this issue. tsn.ca has had opinions on it all week. http://www.tsn.ca/blogs/mckenzie/?id=232516 I guess I just expected more of a unity among the GM's in the league. Heck they voted to not even discuss the subject for three years! One thing that made me feel that it was a good thing, was an interview with Lidstrom not long ago, and he was in favor of the no-touch icing. Opinions, responses, comments. What do you guys/gals think?

    Gordie's 80th

I am so excited for the games this weekend. I know it's an action packed weekend in Detroit between Macs return, Drakes 1000 game recognition/ceremony, and Gordie Howe's 80th birthday. There's a real cool story on nhl.com about Gordie. Did you know He drives a mini-van? I figured he drove a Jag or a Cadillac or something. http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app/?service=page&a...rticleid=358221 Sorry if this has already been posted or old news. If so please delete.

    Quick Question

He said in an interview when they were in St.Louis the other night, that the screws would be in there for at least the duration of his hockey career. Whether he was joking about that or not, screws in my jaw or anywhere in my body doesn't sound very pleasant.

    Yzerman coming back to play

It just shows more than ever, that ESPN have their heads up their asses. I am sure that Yzerman blurp was written by an unhappy ESPN employee who loves the Redwings. He's probably Like "watch this s***" But ESPN has no interest in hockey and never will. But I am sure they will show the box score of the Stanley Cup Final on their bottom line right after "Under Water Basket-Weaving playoffs"

Showing my ultimate love for the red and white

Nice. I am in the process of getting my sleeves. I am almost there. Im thinking of squeezing in a winged wheel somewhere on my arms or shoulders. Right on man!

    Playoff Brackets

Not trying to add to the workload for Matt, but I think he would do a really good job at putting together something. Should we contact him and see if he was interested?

    Edmonton Oilers

Anything is possible, it's not like they are mathematically screwed or anything thus far. But I believe it is little too late to surge and slide on in. You really would need a team or two like Vancouver, Nashville, and Colorado to slide into playing poorly. The odds are against them, but I guess we will see.

    Ladies equivalent to playoff beard

Ha ha! I know your having fun. Me too! I am glad that there are women on here rooting for the team and being excited about them. I hope you have 16 strings!
  17. miller76

    Ladies equivalent to playoff beard

String? I guess it is just something about a string hanging from a girl that just doesn't seem right. Not trying to be gross but........ Growing beards are a sacrifice. Sorry girls I posted again on YOUR thread!
  18. miller76

    Ladies equivalent to playoff beard

String? Come on, thats no work. Growing a beard is a lot of work. They get itchy while you work, they are itchy at night while you sleep. I think you should refrain from showering or shaving anything until we are skating around with that Cup above our heads! (no pictures posted please)

    The Playoff Beard

Well not to be mean and definetly not sick. But my wife usually just goes away while playoffs are going on. She takes the kids to her moms and they hang out over there. I can just sit in my Redwings leather chair, drink my Heineken Keg Cans, eat whatever and scream at the TV. So I am not telling you to go away, but.... Or you can just shave your head like that one post said. Sorry I am of no help.

Cleary a go for Tuesday; Hasek has flu

Ive noticed through out the league the flu just seems to haunt locker rooms. I know that Ozzie, Lebda, Downey, and now Hasek has it. I agree goalies play better with more time on the ice to get going on a roll, but at the same time you have to feel good to get on a roll. But what doesn't bother me, is that we get Howard up more frequently and get him adjusted to the big leagues, so when he is here to stay, the initial adjustment period will be shorter, and him more comfortable.

Cleary a go for Tuesday; Hasek has flu

Yes! Damn it has been so long since Samuelson took our Clears out! Too bad about Dom though. That guy is always ailing from something. I think he and Cheli should start doing Metamucil commercials! ha! j/k.

    Nice pics.

That little piece of music played at the Joe...

You know what else is annoying is, the jeopardy theme being played while they are reviewing a goal or something. I freakin mute the TV when they play it in arenas around the league.
