I think you make great points. But I think we may see slight drop off of the 'hometown discount'. Players are always chasing the money! But as long as the ownership, front office, and coaching staff is what it is, the destination of playing in Detroit is still a goal for free agents. Also a good core of European players in this organization will continue to attract players in the other leagues. Even though everyone is bracing here for the worst, players like Z, Datsyuk, and Franzen are locked up for the better part of their careers. There maybe players that need to be moved and traded for and so on. But the basic core is here, and fortunately people want to come here for the chance of playing with these guys alone.

NHLFA would like your suggestion for a good lobbying tactic
miller76 replied to vladdy16's topic in General
The head guy of the NHLFA is on xm 204 (nhl home ice) , I believe twice a month on Wednesday mornings. He is a complete tool bag! He sounds like a little weasel, that doesn't talk like a hockey guy. All he does is whine and complain about teams that are in more non traditional markets. He believes Bettman is doing the game a disservice, by negotiating with large companies like Directv, Dish, and other providers that broadcast the games nationally. He thinks they need to go back to the roots of local tv only/blackouts and all. He constantly criticizes the local tv personalities on not understanding the game, not being knowledgeable about the players, and being complete homers every chance they get. He even attacks the camera guys that shoot the game. He says they do a poor job at following the puck and play! When the radio program takes calls, after this guy is on. He gets completely blasted on by every caller. But he defends himself, by stating that his views are the majority view of the NHLFA. -
Paul Coffey and Jari Kurri were my favourite hockey players when I was a kid.

I have been watching the nhl network all evening. Good program on the 1967 expansion. They showed a lot of the O6 teams in the intro. Good old footage of the Wings, and Sawchuk. I guess its better than nothing.
