2/26 GDT: Oilers 4, Red Wings 3 (SO)

I'm a Holland defender to an extent, and I'm not gonna argue with you at all. But, wouldn't it be kind of *** if someone was like, "Well, Edmonton scored again...But Holland is still the best." It takes some provoking for the claws of a true Holland defender to really come out my friend. Anyways, this is hard to watch. COME BACK LIDS.

Alright guys, this isn't funny anymore. THIS IS THE ******* EDMONTON OILERS. THEY WERE A TERRIBLE TEAM AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON......AND THEN THEY LOST HORCOFF, SOURAY, TORRES, AND MOREAU. JUST SCORE A GODDAMN GOAL!!!!!!! THEN, HEY, IF YOUR FEELING RISKAAAY, TRY SCORING ANOTHER. I know, I know, I'm getting greedy, but that's just me.

    Optimists ONLY!

Okay, hopefully this is the last time I have to write this. Should we have gotten a Prospal or a Fedorov?? Well, considering what they went for, we probably should have. With that said, people are absolutely losing their minds out of pure hatred for Ken Holland, who everyone knows (Wings fans or not) is one of the best GMs in the league, unquestionabley. There is on thread where one veteran member actually goes on a huge rant, then says that this is his last post, and that's that, he left, never to return I suppose. Could we have used an addition to secondary scoring, especially given the cap space we had, and the fact that Kenny all but promised one right from the start? Yes, and I'm a little pissed at Kenny for doing what he did. Is the current secondary scoring absolutely inept and a guarantee to flop in the playoffs? NO. Flip will need to step up, and we know that Cleary will bring it. Huds will need to step up, and I'm quite confident that Franzen will step up. Also, DZH will get over this slump, and get back on track. These guys are very good. The defense will heal up, and return to their spot within the top 2 defenses in the league (Us and you-know-who). We've got TWO good goalies, that is, one to fall back on if the other turns out to be a flop. This is my main point here: Dallas and San Jose had to do what they did in order to get up to the level of US AND ANAHEIM. They've leveled the playing field for sure. However, in no way are they clearly better than they are, as we were obviously superior to them when we were healthy. The West bracket of the playoffs is going to come down to some breaks. If we suffer a couple key injuries, it is very unlikely we will have much success. But, if Anaheim, Dallas, or SanJose suffer a few key injuries, the same goes for them. It's gonna be tight, and I'm excited about it. We need our boys to all step it up, and as Wings fans, I think that we should feel confident that they will. We've seen how this team can play, and how dominant they can be. We've got to get back there. Also, I pretty much guarantee a couple of attacks from pessimists to tell us all how retarded we are, but such is life. Let's Go Wings

    Experiements

I honestly don't think that looks so bad. I've become a real Franzen supporter lately, and I've loved Cleay ever since the playoffs last year. We will need Flip to pick it up. However, for reasons that no one at LGW understand, Sammy will not be relegated to the 4th line, let alone be the odd forward out. In all likelihood he will be part of any 2nd line, as frustrating as that may be. Also, I notice that you omitted Hudler. I don't have a huge problem with that, and knowing how Babcock seems to to dislike Hudler, this may not be outside the realm of possibility. However, I think that the next 18 games should involve a lot of experimenting by Babcock to find somethind that works.

    The 2008 Trade Deadline Thread

Ya, your not gonna get an argument from me. I actually was questioning the move (or lack there of) way before the deadline. In a world of pro-rated cap space, there is absolutely NO need for $5 million dollar cap space. Even if you were to add the, what, $20 mil in pro-rated salary in rentals, you'd literally give up the entire farm and the future for it, with no hope of resigning everyone. Damn, I'm now wishing I had started a thread to that extent earlier this month so that I don't sound like a Monday moring quarterback. But like I wrote in another thread, Dallas and San Jose had to make their moves to get closer to Anaheim and US (when healthy). And they both made the playing field a lot more level. But I sure as hell am not prepared to say that this makes them better teams than us, as I thought it was quite clear that we are superior to them when we were healthy. The West playoffs is gonna come down to breaks now. If Hank is suffering with his back, and Cleary is still feeling some ill effects, I can't see us getting past the second round. However, the same thing goes for every other team. Every team as injury proned players, so we just have to hope that we get some breaks this year, not Anaheim, San Jose, or Dallas. Lets Go WIngs!

    The 2008 Trade Deadline Thread

I realize that this deadline could have been a hell of a lot better, and I realize Kenny may have dropped the ball, and I realize that we've been in a monster rut as of late. But I still have a problem referring to the team with the most goals in the Western Conference to have a lackluster offense. With that said, if this team can't get back to that level that we were playing at earlier in the season (I don't feel like checking exactly what period it was), where we were winning literally almost ALL THE TIME, then we won't get far. But THIS team have played at a level in which they can beat any team, any day.

    Your assessment of Today

I honestly think that a lot of people are tripping out because of the period in time in which all of this happens. If the current slump/ridiculous injury bug had happened maybe in December, and we had righted the ship since then and began playing again the way that we will play when everyone gets back (the same way we played before everyone was injured) people would be far less pissed off. The fact of the matter is that we all have a bitter taste in our mouths when it comes to all things Red Wings. So, it is basic that we forget that we are the highest scoring team (if not one of the highest scoring teams) in the league. Before you jump down my throat, I realize that the regular season and the playoffs are not the same thing, and that it only gets harder. But, at our best, this team can still score. However, in order to win the cup, everyone will NEED to step up, simple as that. We bolstered our blue line as well, a nice little move that I like. It would have been nice to swing a forward with at least top-6 potential, but the price just must not have been right. I'm a little confused at letting this team walk into the playoffs with so much cap space, but such is life. WE ARE STILL A CONTENDER. SAN JOSE NEEDED TO MAKE A MOVE. DALLAS NEEDED TO MAKE A MOVE. WE DID NOT HAVE TO MAKE A MOVE (but it sure as hell would have nice). The Western playoffs are going to be as tight as it gets, I think. The team that gets the breaks is gonna be the survivor, and that team WILL win the Cup. Pittsburgh doesn't have a goalie, and they are still f***ed.

The more I think about it, the more I realize just how ******* terrible day it was for the Montreal Canadiens. You have to think Gainey thought something would be coming in when he got rid of Huet.

Im pretty sure that's not possible. But, it might not hit the wires until after the trade has been made. But, if the deal hasn't been faxed to the head office by 3:00, then it won't go through.

What do you think the odds are that Holland is trying to bring in a defenseman and a forward for the same team??? Maybe Stuart and a forward from LA. If he's gonna bring in multiple players, you'd think he would have brought in at leaast one of them already. Just a possible suggestion.
  22. awingsincebirth

What happened, Holland? Cap space for what?

Honestly guys. Wait til 3:00, then start bitching. Evaluate everything at 3:00, because it is NOT over yet.

Give me a break. If you hadn't noticed, we were missing a few pretty good players during that game. Everyone needs to calm down, at least until 3:00

The Official "Pierre McGuire's a Jerk" Thread.

Ya, the Dallas game way ridiculous. But did you watch the game against the Kings in late December or early January (I can't remember). Wasn't he all about the Wings during that broadcast?? I question this "good hockey mind" that people are talking about. My 10 year old brother also said that the Wings were a great team when they were constantly winning, and now that they are on a losing streak, he says that they suck. Isn't that exactly what McGuire does. When we start winning again, he will be right back on the Zetterberg, Dats, Homer, Lidstrom, Rafalski, Hasek/Osgood, Babcock, Holland etc etc etc bandwagon.
