Whoever did that should

Darn, I thought all the years of math at college would save me from being patronized on this subject...I was wrong About "you have to be on the winning team to win the Smythe"; so do you have any specific Conn Smythe selection you disagree with? Z this year maybe? Or perhaps the case often is, simply, that the winning team is the winning team, since they have the MVP. The point that the selection out of which to chose the Smythe does not include all NHL players is, however hypothetical, still correct. But I still believe the only, defining factor for the prestige is not the opinion of fans or journalists, but the players desire to win it. The more desire, the harder you fight for it, the tougher the competition, the higher the prestige. I stand by my "made-up" statement; intensity and pressure affect the way players perform. Some are affected negatively, and underperform as a result. Others raise their game and play out of their minds. I refer to mainstream psychology for the background explanations for this and if you disagree, feel free to share your arguments. My point with this statement was simply that the higher the stakes, the harder to perform well, and the clearer it becomes who's able to or not. This particular aspect favor Conn Smythe over Hart.

I'm not sure I want to hear the backstory to this... Great honor for Z anyways, well deserved. It's remarkable that two of the three finalists were Wings...and Dats probably wouldn't be far behind either. What a dream-like season...*pinching myself*

If the desire to win a certain prize doesn't define its prestige, what does!?
-
It comes down to what trophy a player would rather win during a season...regardless of whether his team will or will not make the playoffs. I *think* most would say Conn Smythe, since it's awarded to whoever performs best under the most pressure and intensity, when it matters the most. Making the Conn Smythe the most prestigious trophy for the players. Say Malkin would have won the Hart this year, don't you think he'd trade that for a Conn Smythe-worthy performance during the playoffs?

Great to watch, thank you so much for sharing.

Exactly, we need a couple of scumbags on our team. Enough of this Gandhi-"turn the other cheek"-"never retaliate"-peace prize crap...nooo kidding (although not entirely), but I wouldn't mind him. Maybe he can get Sundin come a long with him.

Just saw the show on youtube and it gave me the chills! Such great guys. Great thing they chose hockey over singing though... Osgood: "I'm from the wintery place called Canada"

If I'm not wrong informed Holmstrom were a (perhaps part-time) carpenter before playing in the NHL. Good riddance Matty, you should be proud of your career

According to mindfly's wikipedia-link Peter Stastny is one of those poor guys whose numbers were "formerly retired"...
-
I think you forgot #25 Thomas Steen i Winnipeg mindfly. What the hell does "former retired numbers" mean? They found out they weren't retirement-worthy anymore? Surprisingly few euros though.

Yep, and I got 2 min for interference

Wow, sounds like a day to remember! Lucky you! Reminds me of one time I met Forsberg on an airport. Congratulated him on the playoff scoring title that year (02) and got his autograph on my plane ticket

Puzzling, to say the least. For the 07/08 season I found the following statistics: Grand Rapid Griffins: 12 GP, 3+4 points, 8 PIM DIF (SEL): 30 GP, 2+7 points, 18 PIM (didn't find any TOI) DIF, playoffs: 5 GP, 0+0 points. 0 PIM (not exactly MVP numbers) Then he seem to be listed for AIK (one division below SEL) for the 08/09 season... Well, whatever your reasons are Johan, get over them and get your butt to Detroit

I was disappoined too when he went home, but we don't know (or do we?) the exact circumstances. Homesick, chances of more ice time...maybe other factors, as long as there's no bad blood between him and the team staff I'm ok with it. I expect a strong training camp from him but as somebody said, he's got a long way to go. Hopefully he'll at least stay in GR next year though.

Your're right, I looked at the youtube "added" date and didn't think more of it. Good fight though, let's hope there will be many more.
-
That's mean. I like how he gets underneath, rolls over and then keeps on pounding Found another one, looks very recent. Ericsson is doing just fine. Can't help to think he could need some more weight on that huge frame though. Sorry for going OT btw, but since the question in the topic got answered I guess there's no harm?
-
Yay! Can't wait!

These are good predictions, I have no objections whatsoever. It might be close between Dats and Zetter, but in the end I think Dats will take it. Talk about proof for a team's defensive qualities btw, when they're awarded the Norris AND get two out of three nominations for Selke. That can't have happened too many times before.

Yeah that kid is TALL, he's not even standing straight and still Franzen, yes Franzen, looks like a peewee. Oh please be physical and mean Jonatahan
-
I heard -- since Franzenstein is already created from spare body parts -- that they simply replaced his brain with a brain from a gorilla. This way they made him even more strong and fearless. For proof of this; see any of the Cup-celebration pictures of him.
-
That's really weird Poor Schenids, never had anything against him. Bertuzzi on the other hand...what a tool.
-
Let's hope Downey took care of whomever did it...

"Did Lidstrom hand the Cup to Drake first because it was becoming past his bed time?" Such great, great guys.

Whether you're willing to take pay-cuts or not you obviously don't SAY THAT before entering the FA-market. These are all semantic games played by the agents and the team mgmts. Having said that, I'd also guess that he'd favour cup chances before cash. And, as BRTD stated, I think he would be an absolutely perfect fit on this team considering the type of player he is.
