The difference between the Hart, and the Lester B. Pearson is that the Hart is voted by the journalists, and Pearson by the other players. These "most valuable" and "best player" are very fuzzy terms. So our best dman by the wide margin is not good enough to be at least 3rd as the most valuable in the NHL? I can bet that if Crosby scores about 120 points this season, and Malkin 100 points, then Crosby will be in the top3 in voting.

Nordicbet.com usually gives good odds for hockey. NHL + European leagues. Reliable bookie.

why to sign him now?

I would love to see Wings - Habs final,, but then we have to take Lang out, and fast. Wings - Caps would be great also, teach Ovechkin a lesson (he is not a whiner, so he should actually learn a thing or two) , and remind to Fedorov which team is the best in the league.
-
It's possible if he can stay healthy. But I wouldn't bet on it 'cause: 1. He will play less with Datsyuk. 2. I doubt that he will stay healthy for the whole season.

What so wrong about Z getting around 7M? Holland will negotiate this deal. Holland won't accept any amount that Hank will tell him. He will push those Lidstrom and Datsyuk arguments. This is how you work. If UFA Hossa signed for less than 7.5M, why Zetterberg, who would love to stay here (said himself that), would take much more (read: 8M+). It's totally sane to think that Hank won't make more than Nick (Babs, Holland told million times, that he has set our salary structure). So that makes Hank's salary range from 6.70 to 7.45. He will likely settle for 7.0 - 7.4 Cleary took less, Stuart took less. Why Hank can't take less? His value is about 8 - 8.5M. So 7.4M is taking less, and that's very normal discount that many Wings give. We ain't the Rangers.
-
Zetterberg won't be making more than Lidstrom. Datsyuk makes less than 7M per year and he is at least as good as Zetterberg. I guess Hank will have to settle for 7M per season.

Tampa Bay defeats Carolina on Saturday

Sammy is a lock on the 3rd line. Guy wins for us Game 1, and he is useless? Sammy is a very good player, unless you put him on the 2nd line.

Nice avatar Aussie_Wing. I feel more bad for Gonchar, than I feel for the Pit'Burgers.

Goalies will freak-out, when they see these yellow gloves.

I would add, that for the average European MSG is probably the most-known arena in the States, and maybe the only arena that they know.

Actually strange list in my opinion. If Zetterberg is #1, then how the hell Datsyuk can be only #9. In my eyes they are pretty even, if I absolutely have to choose between them, I would give slight edge to Datsyuk. Datsyuk has been our leading scorer for 3 seasons (yes, Z has been hurt, but being on the IR doesn't give your team extra points, and doesn't make you more valuable). This is old saying, that Z's defense is better is IMHO silly. Based on what? I would say, that Zetterberg, and Datsyuk do all the things equally good, and when they are doing this together, then it becomes beyond magic. I would give Dats the edge 'cos he has better health, and is more fun to watch.

Great post! In my opinion NA tends to overlook, or underrate international hockey (especially, when they don't win). I can bet that for Nick his GWG against Finland, and a gold medal as a result is at least as important as all these Stanley Cups.

That is why the Wings are the classiest organization out there. 'Cause of Fischer, Vladdy and all the others ex-players, who are still involved with the Wings. But I'm still slightly disappointed that they didn't approach Larionov to fill that free coaching place (He got offers from the Coyotes, the Ducks, and the SKA from Russia). But well... I'm happy that Jiri likes his new work.

I would fire Burke. He will go to the Leafs anyway, and he is ripping the team apart with those "great" moves.
-
Somebody gotta inform Burke that it's legal to trade players. First Bryzgalov, now Schneider. If Chicago got for Langer 2nd Round pick...

Sure he wasn't that old Dominator, but for his age he was very good goalie last season (forget these 2 games against Nashville). He was 4th in GAA with 2.14, he had 0.902 SV%. 27 wins (as much as Osgood). How many guys are capable to put up this kinda numbers as a 43 year old veteran?
-
Hasek carried Buffalo. Hasek won Olympic gold in Nagano. Hasek was still a very good goalie in 2008, despite his age. Hasek at his best was the best player in the league. There is nothing wrong that he is #2. Maybe he got even robbed... EDIT I forgot... Hasek can make people fly, ask Gaborik)))

People are silly. In February most of you were picking Flip and Hudler over Mule. Now you pick Mule over Hossa? Hossa is in the same category as Datsyuk, and Zetterberg. Hossa will score more points in a bad season, than Mule in a good season. Mule will demand around 5M, and Hossa 7M. Pretty easy choice if you ask me, 'cause with those extra 2M we are not signing important players (maybe Sammy). If Atlanta would have told, that Hossa for Mule and Sammy, then you have to be a moron not to pull the trigger.
-
If Flip got 3M, then Hudler will demand at least the same amount. If Franzen scores about 60 points, then he will demand even more. Franzen's price will be about 5M. I would rather keep Hossa for 7M, than Mule for 5M,
