You know, I'd think this a bit more ridiculous if the Free Press didn't screw up their player identifications in their galleries all the freaking time.

I'm feeling good about this game. I know what's said in press conferences isn't necessarily a direct translation of what's been said in the locker room nor does it necessarily translate into what's going to happen on the ice. But from watching the Penguins press conferences since Saturday night, they seem confused. Coach says it was the worst game they've played in the playoffs, Sid says he wouldn't change a thing, but Sid also says they're going to go with a more dump-and-chase style in Game 2, Coach adds that they'll be tinkering with their lines, while he and the players keep insisting, "It was only one game." Time to make it two!

I think every picture of Mike Ribeiro is the most unflattering picture of an athlete ever taken. McCarty out, definitely.

Fantastic article. A lot of the quotes from Osgood are from his press conference yesterday, if anyone wants to check it out. When he says, "I love playing here and I think that's the way I come across, as a simple guy that loves to play for the Red Wings. I love when they chant my name. It pumps me up and gives me energy. Who wouldn't?" it comes across as possibly the most sincere thing I've ever heard a professional athlete say.

Instead of Holmstrom changing his game, how about the refs figure out what "goal interference" actually means?
-
I agree completely, especially with the bolded part. I just watched Crosby's press conferences from last night and today. During both, he insisted that he wouldn't change a thing about how he played. Now, I'm not expecting the kid to come out and say something like, "I sucked. I was horrible. They 100% shut me down. Strip me of my MVP immediately." But... saying things like, "I don't think they did a whole lot to shut us down." Really? Your team's 7 SOGs in the last two periods? Your own -1? Malkin's lone SOG? The shut out? You know what, Sid? Keep right on thinking that you needn't change a thing about your game. That would be splendid.

To be honest, if the no goal had to be called on anyone, I'd rather have it be Lidstrom because I think he's the least likely of any of the Wings to let it get in their head.

It's been said several times before, but Helm is so freaking fast!

I just got all choked up watching Al swing that octopus. Man, I love this team.

10 Things I Like About The Detroit Red Wings - Article
katiephd replied to The Secret's topic in General
That was a good read! I especially liked: "No. 9 – The Joe will be jumping: Ask any player and they'll tell you how difficult it is to be a visiting player at Joe Louis Arena during the playoffs. This is especially true for younger players, of which the Pens have several. The crowd is electric and it feels as though the spectators are right on top of you. The Detroit crowd functions as a seventh man." Because I hate all the crap the media's been giving Detroit fans. -
I came across a Denver station, 104.3 FM, interviewing Granato this evening while I was stuck in traffic on the way home. He sounded rather upbeat (haha) and said the Avs ran into the Wings at a rather unfortunate time (no, you don't say?) and attributed ThreeOrFour's troubles to the flu he caught at the beginning of the series and not at all to the Wings' offense (blah blah blah). After Granato got off the phone, the radio guys sort of ripped him a part. They commented on the media's criticism of the hire and agreed. Then, much to my surprise, one of them said something like, "Are the Avs as good as the Red Wings? Are they going to be as good as Detroit next season? No and no." He then went on to say that he doesn't see the Avs winning the Cup anytime soon with the lack of talent they have. And then... they stopped making sense. They basically said it had been awhile since the Avs had traded away their future for a big hockey superstar and that it might be a good time to do so. But then they started going on and on and on about how great Liles and Stastny are and complaining about the organization getting rid of their younger players, like Tanguay(?), and the production of the players they brought in. Who knows, I stopped listening.

http://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_9346671 The Avs sure have a thing for nostalgia, don't they? I think I may watch the press conference this afternoon for a few laughs.

I'm in for Moontime. -
From me too! :beerbuddy: My mom's a Central alum, so no Central hate from me. Now, UofM hate? That's another story... Random: I really don't think we could be having stranger weather here in Colorado...

There we go.

If she's lucky. (<--- redhead)

Well, it does feel a bit like Detroit's being screwed. But, to look on the bright side... it's a good problem to have, isn't it?

More freaking good news: Cleary practiced without the chin guard!!!!

Still felt a bit hesitant until Babcock's, "He's tipping pucks in the back of the net. He's flying around at 100 miles an hour."

Yep, you gotta love it. As soon as I saw the breaking news on denverpost.com, I knew it would be the perfect day to cash in on my free lunch from a friend (Avs fan) who bet me that the Wings wouldn't make the Stanley Cup Finals. It's going to be a glorious lunch indeed. Aaaaand he just e-mailed me, "Looking forward to lunch, though probably not as much as you. Feel free to throw as much s***-talking my way as possible, the Avs certainly deserve it. Let's also chat about how the Avs will probably offer Theodore another $6mil."

I beg to differ. My favorite ice cream since I was 5 years old has been jamocha almond fudge from Baskin Robbins.

If I have to drink something boring, I'll always choose Miller Lite over anything else. That's mostly my loyalty to my hometown showing through. Otherwise, I've become partial to my new (part-time) hometown's microbrews, particularly New Belgium. There's really no better way to spend an afternoon than enjoying free beer on the deck outside the brewery. Especially for a bike-in. Then, Stella. Heineken. New Glarus. And, this doesn't really fall under the "beer" category, but I love hard cider. Especially Magners.

I hope this doesn't sound creepy, but I think I may have sat a few rows behind you during Game 3 at the Pepsi Center. Hmm.

In case anyone missed it or wants to see it again, Versus is replaying the game right now.
