I can't say whether or not Ilitch cares if he makes money with the wings & tigers. I do think that it is foolish to not care about the health and profitability of your business. But then again maybe that's why the NHL needs a revenue sharing system and a salary cap, because owning a sports team is just meant to be cool; a social status for the owner? Maybe that's why the league decided to expand into non-hockey markets, yeah those would be great investments! Who cares if nobody comes to the games and we don't make any money right? Owning a hockey team in Phoenix or Atlanta would be fun - while it lasted. Sports teams are not created for eleemosynary purposes. They should not be run that way.

I find this VERY hard to believe. Everyone looks to make profit. Nobody goes into a business planning to lose money, its simply not sustainable.

That's what I call a failing business model. I thought the number of teams losing money was under 10, and that would be bad enough!

Shanahan states that the question is "does the act of shooting the puck significantly change the position on Letangs head?" and if so "does that greatly contribute to contact to the head?" In my opinion the answer to both questions is yes. When Letang takes the shot, his shoulder drops and his weight and momentum move forward into the shot - placing his head at the principle point of contact when the hit is made. Im not sure I like the road the NHL is going down...I miss the days when hits like that were good hockey, and reminded players to keep their head up.

I want babcock running all shooting drills next practice! we have missed like 10 great scoring opportunities by missed shots! ...of course flip scores while im writing this HAHA

refs are calling way too many penalties that dont make sense. Question: how can u call a hook AND a dive?

Watching croby's intensity in his first game back really makes me question the heart on this wings team right now. I know hes missed a lot of hockey and has probably been chomping at the bit to play...but when's the last time you saw Z or Dats with that type of energy in a game this season? I can't wait to play the pens now so that we might see our guys pumped up to play a game for once.

Are u guys jokinen me? datsyuk has been all but finishing...he even tried the puck over the net trick tonight. Hes just not getting the bounces. Already leading the league in takeaways AGAIN..what more do u want out of the guy? hes playing all by himself out there too most nights with cleary or homer on his line! God were spoiled!

sounds like bulls*** to me, not against this instance, but the homer bias.... I don't know what holmstrom did but it must have upset someone a-*******-lot to deserve this sort of bias from the officials in this league

What Fraser and other people are wrong about is that when players make the 'counter shoulder' move, they are in possession of the puck. Yes Datsyuk and Forsberg are great examples, but this move without possession of the puck is considered an interference play...

I voted for the refs, because despite the bad play, I honestly think that they have had an influence in more than one of these 5 losses...especially the san jose game and tonight's game

Lidstrom said he thinks the shoulder to kronwall is a penalty during post game interview, and that its been called on bert multiple times this season so far...say what you want but I agree with nick

I think the refs should just get together and have a game of table slider hockey to decide the games from here on in if this is how they are gonna call games
