I think he could still contribute quite a bit. He did have 30 points in 59 games last year playing on lower lines and he still has good wheels.

    That would be awesome. :punch:

True Also, it would be funny to see a bench clearing brawl that involved only one team.

I guess they could always just drop the gloves against each other

Maybe they have all overpaid and have no cap space left.

Blackhawks doing their best to embrace change

Eerily similar to quotes before this trade.

    Hawks deal Ladd to Thrashers

Not sure which is right but Capgeek is showing $512,500 per year for two years.

I sure wouldn't imagine that they would either but was suprised that TSN had something different. If they signed him for the $1M that is really bizzare. The only rationale I can see at all is that he can play D or LW (and is 6'8" and 258 lbs.) so maybe they thought they could run a little light and have him play where ever is neededm but if they signed him for $1M I would have just kept Burish for $1.15M.

    Hawks deal Ladd to Thrashers

I agree with you there but it is still not certain that Hjalmarsson will be a Hawk next season. He only made $600k last year and is due for a big (top four D man) raise. Combine that with the high price teams have been willing to pay for D men so far this free agency and the fact all teams know the Hawks are against the cap wall and he may get an offer the Hawks can't match or that at the least will force them to pay much more for him than they want. Hjalmarsson hasn't had a big payday yet, already has a cup and will likely want to max out and get as much as possible for his next contract. You have absolutely not been a troll. You have been well informed, articulate, and nothing in your posts indicates that you came here merely to trash the Wings and start fights. I'll give the benefit of the doubt to the other poster and hope that he was referring to some previous Hawks fan's postings. You however, have done nothing but improve the debate and discussion here. Your team should still be very competitive next year, they have too many good players not to be. The depth that they are losing will likely hinder them from being elite but they should still be very competitive, and with all the prospects/picks they are getting in return they should be able to retool quicker than most teams. Finally, you are welcomed on this board and I for one hope you continue to post here.

Does anyone know for sure the details on John Scott's signing with Chicago? TSN says one year $1M but capgeek shows it as two years $512,500 per year. Any idea for sure which it is? $1M for 1 year seems like way too much for Scott but TSN is usually more reliable.

That's what I would have thought too but the fourth period is claiming that the Kings are going to make a big trade.

The source I saw said that it wasn't a signing but a really big trade possibly.

The only big benefit of front loaded contracts is that the player gets the big bucks now rather than later which they want because of the time value of money.
  18. That is not an extreme example it is a ludicrous one. Good or bad Rafalski playing almost 25 minutes per game had a real, definate, and tangible impact on the Red Wings, their season, their playoff run, and their hoisting the Cup. Your living in a rental property did not. We are not discussing superstitions here, like not washing your jersey after a win, but merely stating that our #2 D-man who had the second most TOI of anyone on the team playing nearly half of every game did have an impact. Any such comparison is just plain silly.

    Lilja likely gone

I agree, Lils deserves a bigger role, the problem is that he can't take that role from Lids, Raffy, Kronner, or Stuart. Therein may lie the real issue. Lilja will always (or at least for the foreseeable future) be at best the #5 defenseman. He may just want more than the Wings are in a position to give. Kenny said he made an offer, the agent said no offer was made, at this point I gotta believe Kenny that he made and offer and it just must not have been to Lils/his agent's liking. I wish they could re-sign him (and still hope they do) and don't think that Kenny is letting him just walk away without an offer when he said he made one.

    Bufyglien traded to Thrashers

Good analysis of the problem. It still makes me chuckle to see Kopy up on the second line.

Savard to waive no trade clause

That would be awesome but considering that Savard's hit alone is roughly $4M (it is actually $4.007M) I don't think Cheechoo is going to sign for $500K even if he is still getting paid from a buyout. Edit: grammar
  22. Plus hockey trumps all other sports by such a large margin that they don't really matter. :siren:
  23. There is no such thing as a front loaded cap hit, the cap hit is the average of all of the contract divided evenly between the years of the contract. Hossa's salary will be a cap hit of $5.233M every year though the 2020-2021 season and Keith's will be $5.551M per year even longer than that but aside from that even their actual salaries will not start to decline until 2013/2014 (Keith) and and 2016/2017 (Hossa) If it can be accomplished by anyone why were the Hawks paying him $3M per year? Oh and if he is just a decent player why was he playing with Toews and Kane?
  24. All true, plus they have the problem of having Seabrook an RFA after next season so its not like their problems will be over soon.
  25. It is similar, the Wings were the very elite and became above average, however, the Wings did not hamstring themselves near as badly as Chicago has.
